SCOTTISH referees have been told to ignore the new substitution rule during powderkeg fixtures.
IFAB changes state subbed players should now leave the field at the nearest point and walk around the pitch to the dugout.
But SunSport can reveal SFA chiefs won’t ask refs to implement this new rule during Old Firm and Edinburgh derbies and other highly-charged games.
The new IFAB ruling also states player safety and security can be taken into consideration by officials – and the SFA have assured top clubs their stars will never be made to run a gauntlet of away fans.
Refs will instead allow players to go off via the halfway line as normal in certain fixtures.
The SFA are determined to avoid any possible flashpoints after a series of incidents shamed Scottish football in recent years.
Old Firm captains Scott Brown and James Tavernier have both been attacked by yobs, while Hearts keeper Bobby Zlamal was punched during a derby.
Specific games and stadiums are deemed to hold more risk than others but refs have been told to use common sense in games.
But Hampden chiefs have also warned clubs that they can’t abuse the allowances being made to ensure safety.
Players will be told to leave the pitch as quickly as possible with punishment for time-wasting.
