Successful managers never played in country

trying to prove a point here - a mate says it’s a huge risk as Gerrard has never played in Scotland. Asked me to name a person who was successful in their first managerial role, who had never played in that country.

I mentioned Souness and (unfortunately) Brenda. Any others?!

Forget the merits of his argument meaning we’re limited to those who had played in the backwater that is Scottish football. Any other names though?!
 
It’s not like he’s managing the France, he’s playing in British football most of his career so he knows what is expected in British football and what fans generally expect.
