Seeing Big Goldson’s flick for Morelos, Stewart’s flicks and short passes, and Doc’s short through balls in the box are promising signs for the future.
Definitely goals to come in tight games from this.

Absolutely, in the last 20 of the first half we showboated and over- passed at the back ( totally understandable ) but ended up funnelling our attacks up the wing ending in hopeful crosses. This is a nitpick of very minor proportions before the flak comes in. I think when we go through the middle and cut through packed defences with flicks and triangles, we look far more effective. The bonus is that however packed defences set their stall out, they can’t adapt to defend this.

Agreed.

We need to play with more imagination in the final third than we did for the majority of last season.

Second half last night was more like it.

A one-two on the edge of the box is hard to defend.

We were too predictable for large parts of last season. Arfield’s link up play with Defoe and others toward the end saw us playing our best stuff in my opinion. We’ve got the players to mix it up now. Would like to see us get more shots away too. Jack got a taste for it.
