Why did we jot playnour own game?

As the post says virtually from kick off until the final whistle there were virtually no passages of play where we dictated the game with our play that suits us.
How many times (for me anyway) have we decided to try n match the fight only for it to cost us because we then forget to play our own game, wh?????
Already happened at Tynecastle where we let them dictate, v Aberdeen in numerous occasions now (2-2 being the perfect example) where coasting we allowed ourselves to be drawn into a different game.
We are not the same team when we don't play on the front foot making the pitch big with 1 touch football ( and Tav & Morelos played in these games) with the game at Ibrox the Bheasts being another example of not playing our own game, although I think Gerrard could take the blame for that one.
Why?

Hearts pressed us right from the off, stifling any fluidity and saw us struggle to put two passes together. The goal should have seen us settle, but didn’t because Hearts stuck to their game plan.

Seems to me when teams want to make it a battle We stoop to that level & don’t seem to Win the battle to then play our own football.

They harried us, were aggressive in and out of possession and basically ran over the top of our midfield. We couldn't cope with their physical strength at times. Our team despite being very skilful are very slight in their physical makeup from the midfield going forward. We started to get more space after we scored however misplaced passes, short passes, really poor decisions and woeful shooting on goal cost us yesterday. I can't really remember when we were that bad against anyone this season.

we weren't allowed too
simple as that
i thought if a team had a go at us we would've rolled over them
but apperantly not, hearts were stronger in challenge, looked fitter
and just didnt let us play

In hindsight a 35 year old Davis probably isn't at his best if he plays 2 games a week . We need to look at limiting him to one game a week so we get the best out of him he looked heavy legged right from the off.

Hearts aren't the first team to try to press us, and it was a risky tactic when you recall how many counter attacking chances we had yesterday. The issue was, between defoe, aribo and kent, we didn't make any count.

If Morelos had played, we win that comfortably and Hearts tactics would have been called naive.

Stats show they committed 18 fouls to our 7 maybe shows how they disrupted us from playing our normal game but we had more attempts on goal, our chances to goals ratio is dire except for a couple of our players we lack goalscorers,we made 6 clear cut chances last night and only took one of them.

Hearts didnt let us have any time on the ball.
But in saying that we should be good enough to create time by passing it quickly to create space and time.
Our midfield just werent at the races today.

And at their goal Kamara was badly at fault but the ball going to one of their players was a fluke, Goldson then slipped and McGregor didn’t move.

We had our best passage of play the first 10 minutes of the second half. Their team and support looked a bit demoralised after our goal.

Kamara then gifted them a way back into it and the game then basically reverted back to the way the first half was.

Morelos (and Tav) played last time out at Tynecastle and we struggled then too.

If it’s just a case of pressing and harrying us we’d be dropping a lot more points.

If there’s one thing we’re good at it’s playing possession football but we seemed to collectively lose that ability yesterday and in doing so lost the game.

It was very noticable how far off the pace he was today . Tired lazy balls up the park and the attempted clearance that lead to Boyces winner aswell .

They looked hungrier and fitter on the day , they hassled us and never let us play our game , when gerrard constantly talks about “ earning the right “ to play , this is what he’s means , getting the basic hard work done , winning 50/50s , second balls , doing the running , then you can play your football when you are controlling the match. We never done that. Also a 35 year old and a 38 year old played 90 mins midweek and again today , and it badly showed.

The gaffer said before the game yesterday that they were prepared if Hearts were going to press high, or the play the long ball game.
However that message didn’t seem to register with our team.

don't have a divine right to win games, much like we did to the tims, hearts stepped up and disrupted our style of play - good management from them and good play from their players.

That wouldn't be sustainable for a team like hearts over a season, but is in a one off game when we are already down two of our top performers. It happens even to the best of teams. Gerrard and the players just need to learn not to let it happen again.

Hearts played like their lives depended on it and we were without our two best players, which severely weakens us. We need Tav and Morelos, their replacements are poor imitations.

Our game, that needs Morelos to work. Especially away from home.

If we have to play Defoe away from home at places like Tynecastle we should line up like:
McGregor
Tav Goldson Katic Barisic
Jack Davis
Aribo Arfield Kent
Defoe

getting players in and around Defoe. Not lumping long balls at him.
