Are these still a thing for footballers? Have any ever been rejected?

Had a look earlier at the Tim’s supposed new signings and their around 24 years old and only 1 has caps and that was from ages ago.

Still a thing but even if there is an automatic rejection then you can be assured that a fair and impartial appeals committee of will approve any Tim signing. Only work permits i can recall ever being refused are Jardel and Jason Scotland for Dundee United and weeks later he was given a work permit for St Johnstone.

Yup still a thing. In fact certain country's regulations mean that a player can only get a work permit if they are being selected for their main national team, or that doing such move will result in more national team appearances.

Others stipulate that players are actually professional, i.e meet certain contractual criteria otherwise they cannot be considered professional and don't meet standards.

It varies from nation to nation, but those are the common reasons I've seen a few fail.

Most go through as they will be contributing to their new country and home country and everyone is happy. Some get halted though, but appeals can usually rectify anything.

I generally listen to Super Scoreboard every morning when I’m walking the dog and Nuremberg Hugh said the other week that it was his understanding that they had 3 work permits confirmed for their January signings from Japan.

There was something posted on here in the last few weeks that a deal had been made so SPL clubs would still be able to sign players.

Im sure Doncaster said he'd managed to get rid of the restrictions and that would allow clubs to sign players from anywhere. Its just a coincidence this happened before Celtic bring in 3 Japanese players. Its always just a coincidence.

Heard a lot about these three Japanese signings they are getting in. That mob seem to think they’ll all work out as well as Furuhashi has so far but there’s just as much chance they could all turn out to be absolute pants.

Agreement has been reached to stop the introduction of regulations that would have restricted the ability of Scottish clubs to sign players from outside the UK, just weeks before the opening of the January transfer window.
The UK’s decision to leave the European Union promoted a shake-up to the system for employment visas, drastically changing the requirements for players wanting to move to the Scottish leagues.
EU players have previously moved to Scottish clubs without needing complicated paperwork, while the small number of non-EU arrivals obtained Governing Body Endorsements via the Scottish FA that rubber-stamped their permission to sign for Premiership teams.
An Exceptions Panel ruled on cases where overseas players did not meet the strict requirements for an endorsement, often being a number of international appearances. Scottish clubs used that system extensively and though it was allowed to continue during the summer transfer window, the UK government had advised that it would be stopped altogether.

The SPFL and Scottish FA lobbied the government to find a solution before damaging restrictions were place on which players clubs would be able to recruit.
The government has now agreed that the system will remain on a permanent basis, allowing players’ merits to be judged on a case-by-case basis where they don’t meet the points required by the Home Office.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “Given the significant number of overseas players who enhance our league, and Scotland’s relatively small size in comparison to other nations, it was absolutely imperative that we were able to convince the UK Government to maintain the Exemptions Panel.
“Failure to do so would have dramatically compromised the competitiveness of Scottish clubs, particularly when playing in European competitions, and it is fantastic news for our game that we have managed to secure such a crucial agreement with the UK Government.

“It is no exaggeration to say that this was one of the most pivotal issues for our clubs and I am absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure this ongoing arrangement. The alternative did not bear thinking about – and would have severely restricted the number of marquee players coming into our game, with disastrous financial consequences.”
“The retention of the Exceptions Panel is hugely significant achievement for Scottish football and also protects the interests of the many Scottish clubs whose business model depends on the import, development and onward sale of overseas players.”

So does this apply to the world or just Europe? There appears to be really cheap markets abroad which we can’t take advantage of due to the work permit situation?

Pat Nevin and Davie Hay on the expert panel.

The permit deal has happened because the scum will have to bring in
a lot of overseas players when there history becomes better known..
I suspect European footballers know enough about that bastardised football team already and that has been fundamental on why they can only get 3rd choice goalkeepers and crippled wannabe Irish guys.

Players and teams will not be reliant on the suppressed 19th Century Terrorist media that exists here. Players from Asia and further afield will soon become aware of how they built their standing in football on the backs of child abuse victims soon enough also.

That’s the thing with them. It’s not as if their establish internationals. The striker who finished top scorer this season has had a freak season similar to the Greek boy they signed. anyone can have a good YouTube compilation these days.
