How’d you solve a problem like Morelos?

Spot on mate.
Ally couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat when he come up from Sunderland then slew everyone he played against. Freddy will only get better.
Even after Ally found his form and hit his stride he missed a load of chances, people forget that because he also scored a tonne of goals. One of his biggest skills was that natural instinct to be in the right place at the right time, and I think Morelos has a touch of that about him as well.

On another level entirely the Liverpool supporters are saying the same with Salah but he is still worth about £100million because of the goals he does score.

He’s a great footballer. But very wasteful, he needs to calm down and a wee bit of maturing and he will be even better. There’s no move down south while that’s not in his game in my opinion. Which of course is good for us.

Regular and consistent playing time is all that is required at this stage I reckon.

He has all the attributes and isn’t fazed by missing chances. His conversion rate will improve with experience.

We just need to support him and not get on his back when he has nights like last night.

His overall game is good even when the chances aren’t going in.

I remember McCoist scoring four against Falkirk in a league game.

He then missed an open goal for his fifth and someone shouted in all seriousness, “That’s f**king shite, McCoist!”

That’s what we’re dealing with.

There is no problem with Morelos, he's fucking class.

The only thing I would do is get candias and John whipping in crossed to him on the training ground to practice heading.

Think people forget he’s 21 years old and has a lot to learn but what a player he is, guilt edged chances missed but he can only get better.

He never hides his hold up and link up play is phenomenal. As strong as an ox always gets himself into the right positions in front of goal. Yes he has missed some sitters but as said he is still raw and. Nowhere near the finished article the composure will come. When it does I think the wee man will be unstoppable. He's the first player in a long time I have genuine man love for. Imo the people picking fault are just looking for an excuse to moan.

This is why he needs to stay at least a couple of seasons. He will get better and that will get him a move to a big club down South for a tidy fee. If he goes too soon when he's not the finished article to a mediocre championship team then we all lose out.

Tell me a striker that doesn't miss easy chances. The best miss them ,remember Ally against hibs on must have mist about 7 or 8 sitters. Fans booing him we won the game who scored Ally ,remember he ran along the side of pitch waving his finger at the fans.
Colin Stein once said after missing load of sitter , what's the problem if I score one and defence let in two not my fault..

The only Morelos problem we have is that we don't have two of him ffs.

Before he came we all lambasted the fact that we never had anyone in the right areas. Now we do. Morelos gets into the right places time and time again and has scored some fantastic goals for us.

More composure will come for a guy who's just 21 years old.

It's frustrating to see some of the misses he's had but %^*&, we wouldn't be top three or four without him this season. Let's not complain about what we will all remember as a magnificent talent when he does move on.

In the op’s defence Morelos has missed some sitters this season so I can see where he’s coming from

He Has scored some great goals this season but also missed some chances where it looked easier to score especially with his head

I’d still have him in the team every week and why not play Cummings up front beside him

OP you seem to have a problem with Morelos, for some reason I remember you posting in a match thread about how shite he was...before he inevitably scored. Might have been Hibs away.

So I'll leave it there, you don't see what the majority see.

Strikers miss chances, sometimes they miss more chances than normal, the much lauded Harry Kane couldn’t kick his own arse for the first month of the season and had a similar spell that lasted even longer last season.

Morelos is young, he’ll continue to improve, he brings so much more to the team than goals, he’s still the top scorer in the league, he’s the least of our worries.
The good points far far outweigh the bad. He has been an excellent signing, especially for the money and his age. I suspect he will play at a level much higher than us in time.

Applying some perspective though, I think he could do with some specialist header coaching. Lack of height doesn’t excuse the inability to hit the target when it’s straight onto your head. And he has missed several glorious headed opportunities from short distances this season.

If he scored every chance he would not be with us, it is that simple. There are a few issues with his game but they can all be worked on and he will only ever get better from this point. He is already the top marksman in the country, and he can only get better. Things like heading can be taught, Things like not letting your head go down after a miss cannot. Thankfully he has the unteachable aspects of his game down perfectly and a little good training, and some time to become a little more ruthless, and he will be a star.

That natural instinct is his movement. Have a look at the header he missed last night. 2 sheep centre halfs both about 6'3, 6'4 goes over thier heads whilst he takes two steps after the ball is crossed to get into the position for the free header.

He's due to give some team an absolute battering. I'm just glad he's back scoring again so hopefully he can kick on and improve his conversion rate but as soon as he finds more composure this boy could be absolutely lethal.

Young player in missing chances shocker. If he was scoring most chances he'd be long gone by now. What's telling is that he's there to miss them. He's going to improve and we will eventually receive an offer we can't refuse.

He's been an outrageous signing for £1m. JJ deserves massive credit for the recommendation.

As a unit we looked a lot better with Morelos,Cummings for me never did anything when he came on maybe short of match practice but I think Morelos is a far better player.

Still young and raw, first season at the club, gets into the positions to miss the chances, hold up play and strength is top drawer, he’s missed when not on the park.
There’s your answers OP.

He was so pissed off with missing that chance before being subbed that he headed straight for the tunnel when coming off.

JJ went to grab him to get him to sit on the bench. Don't know if he ended up down the tunnel.

That shows me he cares and hopefully will be more determined to get better!

I think if he was finishing these chances then there's a fair chance he wouldn't be with us. Just where we're at just now, I'm afraid

He needs to become more clinical and composed, both of which will come with experience and more game time.

Another 2 or 3 seasons with us and he'll be a really top player and will be moving for a decent sum.

I would love it if we could find a way to get Alfie and Cummings playing together. I reckon they would tear defences apart. It would however mean we would be lighter in midfield.

Practice practice practice.

It looks like weve improved the delivery. Candeias, tavernier, john, and murphy down the lines. Goss windass and mccrorie down the middle. Hes meeting the service thats here and it will get better as they fit in.

He will frustrate as he delights. He is a up and comig 21 year old from an other continent.

I understand where the OP is coming from. His misses have cost us points this season (I'm going to say at least 5 points - Hamilton and Celtic) but he's also our top scorer and his goals have and will win us many more points. That's the pressure that comes with being the main striker and for a 21 year old I think he's doing great. Hopefully Cummings can take a bit of the pressure off him and share the responsibility for getting us goals.

He scored and is our top scorer

There is no problem. This place is fucking mental :D

Totally agree, he's 21 and still no where near his prime.

Listen to people like Alan shearer, Gary Lineker etc. They always talk about strikers being in the right positions to miss chances as not being a problem, it's when they go hiding and don't even get the chances that the problem begins.

Boys top scorer in the league and I for one think he's a tremendous wee player.

The thread title is a play on words
How to solve a problem like Maria (sound of music)
It was not saying Morelos is a problem. Missed chances can be a problem as we’ve found out a few times this season which is why after beating Aberdeen 3 times & drawing with Celtic we are only ahead of Aberdeen on goal difference but that’s aimed at every player not just him. Of course he will miss chances, I just hope he starts to put the sitters away

Although that is his primary job

He offers a lot more than goal scoring
You beat me to it , for although scoring is the main part of his game and it is disappointing to see him miss chances he still keeps his head up and looks for more chances also his overall play outside the box is tremendous never giving the opposition a moments peace , this was never more apparent than in the last game against celtic when he bossed their defence

Every striker misses easy chances, that's just what happens. I think Morelos, in the main, is clinical enough, so don't really think it's a glaring issue.

His head went down after the chance in question and then the sclaff, so he may need to work on that aspect of his maturity.

For his age he is an outstanding talent. He could find space in a phone box. His hold up play and body strength are outstanding and right now if he was the finisher we’d like him to be he’d not be playing with us. This boy could end up playing at the top table in a few seasons. Enjoy him whilst we have him...

I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating those chances TBH.

He’ll find his range & confidence.

Appears to be very hard on himself.

I want to see him enjoying his football.

Great problem to have. I can’t get my head round the moans of some people. One old boy sits behind me spends the full 90 moaning at Morelos. He’s going to miss chances all strikers do it’s part and parcel of the game. Was clear to see when he went off how important Alfredo is for us he bullies defences on his own up there. Top scorer in the league at 21 years old and he is only going to get better.

The good thing about him is when he misses a chance he is still there when the
Next one comes along but he has much more to us than just a goal scorer.

Before ppl jump to his rescue I’ll start by saying he’s been a fantastic signing. However I hope Cummings can finish because the wastefulness of Morelos is going to cost us points again
5 chances, good chances at that. 2 with the goal gaping & we get 1 goal
He either needs to work on his finishing or get a bit more composure (I understand he’s young). It’s becoming a trend in our matches that he continues to miss multiple very good chances, which you can forgive if the goalie makes a good save like Gordon did, in general though these chances are back post headers etc which after doing so well to get into the position in the first place should be buried.

If he took every chance he was given, he wouldn't be playing for Rangers because we couldn't afford him.

The boy's very good - lets just appreciate him.

I thought he was excellent last night.

On another day he has four goals. His effort, work rate, desire, movement and positioning was tremendous.

He adds a bit more composure and %^*& me.

Super Ally and to a lesser extent Kris Boyd.
Ally was young and raw and missed plenty.
Boyd, even as a seasoned pro went through spells where he was missing a boat load of chances, but he was there to miss them.
Morelos is still young, needs a bit more composure but i am sure the goals will come.

Wait till he and Cummings get in the sane first 11 together, it will help him massively having someone to work with up top. I see Cummings as being the more central role and morelos being the one who wins the first ball and creates. They are going to rip teams to bits, hopefully starting at the weekend.

Problem? Law of averages. I'll take 10 shots on target (sitters) with one or two going in all day long. It doesn't need to be a cricket score.

His hold up play is great, if we can hold onto him for a year or two along with Cummings, I am quite excited :)

What the op needs to remember is that morelos is still young and his far from the finished product. But he is heading in the right direction and we have the best all round striker i,ve seen in at rangers for a few years.
