Ah, the old toe-basher.St James playing fields aka the racecourse.
Scored my first two 11 a side goals there (on a Saturday morning) a header and a toe basher
also very sad !Didn’t realise you couldn’t play on that park in a Sunday. Quite a revelation.
And the ball would have been a size four mitre mouldmasterAh, the old toe-basher.
A lost art.
There was actually 26 pitches with four more over the other side of the m8 which you accessed over a footbridge that was removed when the extended the M8 access to the airport22 pitches in use on the Saturday.
Would I be correct in thinking that 50 years later, there's nowhere near that number of games taking place?
There was 26 in the 70s/80sApparently new changing rooms to be built and four pitches to return. Used to be at least 12 pitches so not progress!

Linfield are home to Portadown this Sunday too, members only voted this summer to allow the club rule to changeOne of the great bastions of not allowing Sunday football I.e. the Northern Ireland Premiership has eventually caved in, in recent years.
Newry Town versus Linfield, 14.00 hrs on Sunday, 21st August 2022 and live on BBC I/player.
Changed times indeed since some of the DUP lead councils in Northern Ireland, heavily influenced by the Free Presbyterian Church (or as known in Scotland as 'The Wee Frees') chained up the kiddies swings and locked up their playgrounds so they couldnae play on them on a Sunday!!!
Probably be houses soon then!!Dressing rooms have been demolished and no goalposts, not seen any football matches in a long time?
Did you play up front or at the back?Used to pump a bird who stayed just across from the pitches.
The pitch they were allowed to play on looks like the one they used for the fairground when it arrived at Paisley fair fortnight
Think they played finals etc over the bridgeRemember a bridge over the motorway leading to the furthest away pitches from the changing rooms.
They were always the best pitches in terms of surface.
Yes and always getting chased up Greenock rd by Feegie park boys if you weren't for the schemeCorrect, that's where the "shows" would be when they came to town.
I remember that auld parkey, if it even looked like rain, he would put all the pitches off, and close the dressing rooms. Made life easy for himself. That’s crazy
A huge factor in the decline of Scottish football.22 pitches in use on the Saturday.
