SFA have explaining to do as embarrassing Bobby Madden admission could cost Rangers in Scottish Premiership
Celtic were once again helped by the officials in the Scottish Premiership as they beat Livingston on Sunday, keeping them three points above Rangers. Our fierce rivals were given a corner despite no clear touch from the defender, and of course, they opened the scoring from that.
David Martindale admitted that Bobby Madden [fourth official] and the linesman both told the referee that it was a goal-kick, but they were ignored and overruled for no clear reason.
Speaking after the game, as shared by The Sun, Martindale revealed his conversations with officials that leave us scratching our heads.
“I think there’s a refereeing decision that leads to the corner, I think it’s our by-kick,” he said.
“I spoke to the linesman and Bobby (Madden), Bobby was the fourth official and they both had told the referee it was a by-kick. But it’s just disappointing when the decisions go against you and it leads to goals against.”
Embarrassing.
This is yet another big red cross over the officiating in Scotland, and it is getting to the stage where the SFA must break their silence.
What on earth is the point in having your assistants, who are in a much better position, if you won’t listen to them?
It was the clearest goal-kick we have ever seen, yet the referee had the audacity to put himself in the spotlight rather than the game.
This comes after shocking decisions against the Bears in the draws with Motherwell and Dundee United, it makes no sense.
Do we really want one of the tightest Scottish Premiership title races in years ruined by the officiating? Of course not, and there has be consequences for shocking decisions such as this one.
Martindale being told this after the game makes it even worst for him, as he will have been left bewildered, just as we are now.
These shocking pieces of officiating have to stop, or it will get to the stage where Scottish officials just aren’t trusted anymore.
