He is a huge downgrade on Goldson and BasseyI don’t think Souttar is coming to play back up.
That’s just me though.
I dont think hes good enough as our CB mainstay especially in europe, hes a decent squad player and usefull but nowhere near as good as goldson or helander so imo its a downgrade if he is coming to be our main CB.
Was he not offered the contract before Gio arrived? Just thinking that his planned role may have changed.I don’t think Souttar is coming to play back up.

I’m a bit undecided on Balogun if truth be told. He has done well over the two years but his injury record isn’t great. I’d be more inclined to give his minutes to King. Largely depends on departures though. If Goldson and Bassey both left then I’d be more inclined to keep him.
Souttar is his replacement and an upgrade at that.
Goldson replacement to partner Bassey, then Souttar and King.
Balogun is the kind of player you sign for 2 seasons max then upgrade on.
After what we have made in europe and if we sell one major asset id be fully expecting cash paid for a decent CB.I'd get used to the idea of downgrades in the short term. That's how it's going to go as our best players move on. We can't afford to replace like for like, never mind better.

So no, i hope im not going to get used to downgrades nor should i.
King there needs to get his chance also for me same as lowryHe's been a quality addition! Have to admit, Soutter, Helander and Balogun with their fitness issues gives me the fear
This is how I feel. How much would you expect to pay for someone of Goldson's ability? We got him for £3m due to his playing circumstances at that time, and he's improved a fair amount in his time with us.
We'll be losing a £10m defender here easily. I don't see us spending that to replace him, so hopefully we can find someone of his level when we first signed him and develop them in a similar way.
There'll be a number of little steps back this summer if the suggested squad changes become a reality.
4-5million on a decent rated CB whos not on close to chucking it.How much would you expect to pay for someone of Goldson's ability? We got him for £3m due to his playing circumstances at that time, and he's improved a fair amount in his time with us.

Lol!Balogun and soutter at the back is a backwards step.
Only room for one of them as a squad player imo.
Agree!Wouldn’t object to giving him a one year deal as a useful squad option
Bassey is best at LB!We will have Bassey, Souttar, King, Helander, Balogun and Katic assuming Goldson moves on.
Think we move a couple on and bring in one quality replacement for Goldson
We are going to require strength in depth, I would give him another year as a squad player. Hopefully his injury record is slightly better than this year's. He is a good defender.
Watching souttar over the years he’s not a patch on balogun anyone that says any different is kidding themselves onYou are completely wrong on Souttar, he is more than good enough, he is an excellent defender and passer, the only thing that he lacks compared to Goldson is reliability.

The performances balogun has put in while at the club in massive games souttar isn’t a patch on him and next season will prove it , balogun was by far our best player at start of seasonI have to disagree there. I'd have Souttar ahead of Balogun in most aspects of what we look for from our centre halves.
I don’t think Souttar is coming to play back up.
That’s just me though.
