Castore do a number of clubs kit now do you think we are still the “Jewel in the crown” for them?

I always wonder how much weight the quality issue has with regards to kits sold. In my mind it’s pretty easy to sell Rangers kits - make them look half decent and don’t charge too much. We have a huge captive audience.

We could sign with a bigger brand but are the terms of that deal going to be better, considering we’ll be a much lower profile team on their books than we are on Castore’s? Also will it magically make us sell more kits? Seems like a zero sum game tbh.

I think the choice of a new “hipster” brand has benefitted us tbh. And if they continue to pay the money they promise I have no issue with renewing the contract with them, hopefully on better terms than currently.

David Murray did that with us and admiral.

If my memory serves me he actually bought admiral.

Signed us up.

Sold admiral
People slag Castore quality, but my god Admiral were shite. Had a Rangers shellsuit by them that turned purple the first time it was washed. Returned it, rinse & repeat.

Had no idea Murray bought them. Pretty sure the Diadora tops we head were manufactured by Rangers & Diadora just paid to have their logo on the top

Sadly we aren't the jewel in the crown but we're a very solid partner for them and they seem to be good for us as well.

Re their stuff tbh I think it's fine. They've no doubt had %^*& ups - especially early on but it's ok now.

Strip designs have been fine. Nothing amazing, nothing horrific.

I actually buy some of their stuff when they have sales on and it's fine for kicking about in but it's a rip off at full price.

What’s your idea of a decent brand? Just a big name? Castores gear is far superior to the quality of Nike and Adidas. Lasts longer, washes better and actually some really nice stuff.

They pay us a decent sum and don’t mess us about.

They had teething problems which have pretty much dissappeared now.

What more do people want?
My great is in great condition. Apart from the decals that are all falling off or having already gone, making it look ridiculous

I was going to use “Golden Tuna” but wasn’t sure how many would get the Harry and Marv reference so stuck with jewel in crown

Wonder how Castore see the value of Rangers in their business these days given the number of clubs they make kit for now. We certainly helped put them on the map with football club I think but what is the value of our business worth to them? How do you think our kit sells in comparison to their other clubs? Do you think Rangers will have as prestigious a contract as say Newcastle United

Would be really interesting set of figures I’m sure if we were able to get them somehow as we have heard nothing much from the Behon brothers now we are not their only big concern. We used to get interviews and info, we were the test case for their business when dealing with a proper big club and were the ones where all their teething troubles were ironed out
Jewel in the crown sweetcorn in the jobby

I've always wondered this but there's obviously clear answers or you'd have Man Utd and Liverpool etc doing it by the bucket load
If tops are getting knocked out at £70 a touch now, and must be relatively cheap to manufacture, £3, £10, £15 again I've no idea, why wouldn't a club build a Warehouse and make their own stuff? Even the sponsor money etc are bound to eat away at the running costs of such a thing?
Because Warehouses are expensive, so are staff, distribution, customer service, marketing, websites and the thousand other costs associated with a retail operation.

It’s much easier, and not that much cheaper, to just outsource it to a specialist contractor.

I think their parnership with Red Bull F1 will give them more worldwide exposure than a few of our tops in the former colonies.
Defo more exposure but who is buying a racing suit or racing gear - wouldn’t even know where to get it?

Sponsoring of F1 must be a loss leader to get your brand out there.

No, they have three or four teams playing in much higher profile leagues. Most of the stuff I see on here is negative towards them. The thread about how bad they were , which wasn’t true, was massive.
So you're saying an admin who started the thread and loads of respected posters who contributed to that thread are liars then? There were plenty of frustrated people explaining why they were dissatisfied.

Castore have offered some shoddy products and not just Rangers stuff as well as some good stuff and at times their customer service and choice of delivery partner shocking.

Thankfully I never bought the school jumper. :)

The Diadiora first session ones were shocking. They bobbled and fell apart after one wash. Think Murray got them made cheap as feck.

When you go onto the Castore page it is the Newcastle top that comes up first.

The only club that has its own section is us though.

I would say that we are there biggest sellers, although that is going to change once Newcastle make some big signings.

Their Mclaren brand was a very successful partner in F1, hence the move to the E brands they have.
Massive tourist base in this & popularity in the sport for new sales each time.

Fair enough, I’ll bow to your better judgement on this, just never seen a shop where you can buy racing gear (apart from an airport ages back in Germany I think it was)

I doubt they even sell replica flameproof racing suits.

T-shirts, hats, hoodies and all the other stuff they sell by the bucketload. RBR are the world champions and F1 is a worldwide brand. They go nuts for it in places like Asia.

No , not liars , trying to get me banned :))

The amount of merchandise we have sold off the back of the Castore deal was incredible. Sitting here in the garden typing wearing a pair of non Rangers Castore shorts that I bought in the first months of the deal.

If a stranger was reading that thread they would assume all the merch was falling to bits, arrived weeks late or never and the designs were awful.

I like Castore and I thought Hummel were much better than the FF view would have you believe.

F1 fans. They will know where to get Red Bull or McLaren Castore merchandise (Castore website for starters).

I think we’ve been better for Castore than they have been for us in all honesty, but I think they’ve produced some decent kits so I have no great complaints.

At the same time, I feel it’s time for a change.

When does our contract with them expire?

I could be wrong about Murray buying them but I'm sure that was the case

Were we their first high profile partner?
Andy Murray was their first, ourselves and possibly the West Indies cricket team were the first teams they signed up.

Personally i think if they offer the best overall package(which will have to take into consideration the running costs of having a retail department)at renewal time I would be quite happy as generally I like their stuff

Huge amounts of merchandise in F1 - T-shirts, jackets, trainers, caps. I used to buy loads of it when I was a kid, and particularly in Europe it is massive.

I agree with some of this. I think the Hummel shirt quality was decent.

I've bought several Castore tops but only worn one of them (to Seville final).

The thread had some horror stories though and I've non Rangers Castore shorts that the white logo is 3/4s missing.

Castore are a mixed bag
Lazy designs and horrible change tops like the lilac one and the black pin striped one for example.

Some of the trackies they did and school jumper were insulting, they were that bad.

Some other stuff has looked decent but I tend to only buy the football tops these days rather than everything.

In what way was it not true?
The thread read as if they were a sham company selling a shoddy product with a poor distribution arm. The product was as good as anything on the market and probably one of the best. The companies relationship with Rangers has been very professional. The initial packaging was excellent , Castore couldn’t be responsible for imbeciles at the delivery agent destroying packaging. I have only encountered one delay and that’s when the Mrs got me a birthday present, was half cut and quickly hid it and then spent a week chasing it saying it definitely wasn’t delivered.

I didn’t like the lilac one either. I am the opposite of you. I only buy the football tops for my two teenagers. I tend to buy Polo’s and the quarter zippers. Mrs said the other week that even though they are several years old now when they come out the wash they look brand new. I also had a long sleeve black T-shirt with a black RFC and stupidly wasted it by wearing it painting.

I think we are getting a good deal off castore as we get money up front plus a percentage of sales and they handle our retail.

The bheasts deal is money up front but with that money they have to buy x amount of kit from Adidas and they get the profit on what they sell.

I think we will be with Castore for a while and incidentally they will end up as kit makers for the bheasts.

I don’t buy replica tops any more and have no interest in buying things when they first come out - little value for money.

I normally wait until products reach the end of the line. For example this year I’ve picked up travel shorts, hoodie trackie and travel trackie all with 70% discount. The quality is excellent. I get there have been some shanner items but I’m not aware of anyone holding a gun to your head and insisting you buy.

My dad has got me a few non Rangers training tops for Xmas, again the quality is outstanding - but probably over priced.

Our next contract with them will be massive.

Never had any issues with the quality of tops. Always washed inside out same as any tops that have transfers on them.

F1 isn't the Sunday afternoon watch for so many it was 20 to 30 years ago.

Also it's a sport old men follow now

Back then everyone did

I am the same, on the back of the Castore deal I have bought a lot of Rangers merchandise - golf tops, gym shorts and tops, joggers and training tops. The vast majority of what I bought has been good quality, only dissapoitment was a long sleeved golf top that I got in one of their sales.

Should have said non-Rangers merchandise as well...

The vast majority of complaints were actual experiences people had with products (remember the fruit of the loom stuff), delivery delays and customer experience. They may have improved but the initial experience a lot of people had was nothing short of a disgrace.
