Do you still have faith in Phil?

Will Phil get this right?

I would be willing to stake my house and every dime I possess on us looking for a new manager before Xmas this year.

I’m unsure with regard to the tactical methodology of the team . There doesn’t seem to be any effective structure , or adaptability from him or his management team, when there is glaring deficiencies to supporters , and more importantly opponents.

The results against Motherwell , Ross County, and Dundee , remind us that , it’s not simply a matter of Celtic having superior players right now.

His substitutions are just weird, as is his team selection. Rangers supporters know this squad, so when we all seen that Ridvan wasn’t playing , and Cantwell , we knew the pedestrian midfield would be failing us.

What happens when he brings in a nucleus of new players ? , we won’t be in a position to understand his selections any better.

We had a player sent off, cantwell demands opponents including Celtic to pay attention to him, usually by numbers . Why wasn’t this part of the thinking yesterday?

His post match comments , upon bad results are particularly becoming delusional at best. Referencing the contribution made by Lundstrum over previous months , is bizarre. Over previous months the collective have stolen defeat from the jaws of victory , against teams we should be hammering.

What is this Rangers management team , seeing in performance , that we as a support don’t ?

The impact Ridvan made yesterday , should have been used in the initial phase of the game , Sterling could have been dynamic in midfield , along with Dio. It could have made all the difference to the result . For this reason , I’m doubting his management style is suited to the cutthroat nature , required to win these matches, and titles.

I’m giving him this transfer window before I make any judgement. See where we are come Christmas.

He really needs to go and get his own players in the summer now. Drop tav goldson lundstrum etc and just completely start from scratch

Got to admit my preference for manager was Kevin Muscat when it was between him and Clement.

I wonder how we would be doing if Muscat did get the job. I guess we would at least be seeing a style of play that the manager wants his players to play.

I'm not as familar with Muscat's managerial career but from doing some reading at the time my understanding is that his preferred 'style' was very in keeping with what Postecoglu did/is doing at Celtic and Spurs with lots of high energy pressing, tempo and movement.

Frankly it'd be hilarious to see our squad trying to play anything approaching that, they'd be blowing out of their arses after 5 minutes.

There are many failings in the current squad but chief amongst them is the complete lack of energy and pace and that's before you get to the deplorable fitness/conditioning issues of the players we do have at our disposal. Got to be up there as pound for pound one of the worst squads of players we have ever had.

FFS he has been in the job seven months and as we all know apart from loanees is working with the squad he inherited...One cup and still a possibility of two.

He deserves a full season at least to sort out the squad.
He is still making the same mistakes against them

But the manager wanted him on a sizeable contract for the next 3/4 years even though he's 30 and on the decline.

Only the board refusing to meet Lundstrams wage demands put a stop to it.

How do you know what the manager wanted him to have? You don't.

He wanted him to have a new contract, but you have no clue what wages, length or anything to do with the details or whether he still wanted him to be a key player in the team.

I think that Mccines will be our manager by Christmas

Unfortunately for us
Regardless what some Rangers fans believe , he has emerged as an excellent football manager . With an impressive ability to work miracles with moderate resources .

One thing is guaranteed with his teams , supreme fitness , and team balance . Which to my mind , provides the environment and conditions for a harmonious squad, capable of upsetting much more technical opponents.

He made a big difference initially. He inherited an awful squad but got the most out of them.

He put a stop to the slow safe passing from side to side, but that has crept back in the last few weeks.

He made what looks like a good signing in Cortes (injury aside obviously), the jury is still out on Diamonde, and Silva wasn't the kind of player we needed, doesn't help when he persists to play him wide left.

He did not address the number 9 situation in January. That should have been top priority.

He continues to play players who underperform, but just won't drop them, even with other options available.

He continues to play a midfield that has failed continously, again when there are other options available.

I would still back him, however. He has to be given a chance with his own squad. Injuries have been another thing out of Clement's control, that have really affected his choices. We know there's a big rebuild going to happen in the summer, so I don't think getting yet another manager in would be a wise move.

It all comes down to recruitment.

He will get the same chance Beale did with the next transfer window and holds a bit more credit with a trophy (hopefully 2) behind him.

If we get it wrong and get off to a bad start then I fear the worst.

I'm 100% behind Clement, but I was expecting something that shows us he's learned from previous games against them. When I saw the line up, I knew we were getting more of the same. That's the most disappointing thing for me as we are all well aware of the player's limitations.

If that other thread about Butland for 21m is true its a good start add Ben Davies matondo and any others we can get a few quid for

Without doubt.

We can't stay in this cycle of sacking managers every single autumn.

We need to give him time to build his own squad.
People complain about the funds the manager has to spend, those funds take a hit every time we sack a manager.we have sacked two managers in a year and all the costs that entails in pay offs for not just the manager but some of the managers team as well.people won’t want to hear this but he needs at least two full transfer windows to assemble a squad that he is fully happy with.

I’ll judge him next season.
He has inherited a basket case of a squad in terms of quality, fitness and mentality.
Few worrying interviews recently like calling a home draw v them a moral victory rather than calling out the first half.
He needs to be cuter with the media and lose his matter of fact responses.
Dundee was an improvement over Ross County as we never lost but that’s not what we want to hear.
I’m hoping he has simply been molly coddling a broken squad to try and limp over the line.
Come pre season I want to see a ruthless bastard or my concerns will grow.

You can simultaneously think that:

It would be madness to keep sacking managers every autumn after “rebuilds”, that Clement deserves a run without crippling injuries and reliance on a poor squad and that his track record demands more patience

And

The football lacks cohesion or style , the tactics lately have been alarming (yesterday’s line up the most obvious example) and he needs to lay a glove on them soon or he’s a dead man walking.

I’ve a few worries about him now.

Sticking by Lundstram when he’s clearly downed tools, continuing to pick Lawrence when he looks done physically, not changing the formation against Celtic when everyone can clearly see it doesn’t work.

But he inherited a shambles so, IMO, he gets the chance to rebuild.

He needs to be ruthless with this squad though, it needs fucking gutted.

There should have been a 4th option here. ‘Unsure, a few alarm bells are ringing but needs backed by the fans and the board’

There are some worrying signs for me - mainly how he reacts to pressure and mind games from Celtc, but at the same time, a 6 month managerial cycle is useless. We need to give Philippe a couple of transfer windows, and time to assess and get used to the unique nature of the SPL. Getting dropped into this madness midway through the season would be difficult for folk experienced with this league, never mind a guy new to the f*ckery and corruption.

It’s ironic that the manager that delivered us so much success and joy casts a shadow on new managers and causes us to judge them more harshly (IMO). Just as Man U cannot adjust easily to life post Sir Alex Ferguson, we’re going through the same growing pains.

I’m stuck between options A and C. He’s almost working with 2 hands behind his back between injuries and the usual suspects letting him down. That being said, his team selection and substitutions yesterday were baffling to say the least.

The squad is awful largely because of the signings of Gio and Beale. Have to give him time to build his own team.

We have also had an awful run of injuries. Lose Cortez, sima and Danilo for the season test him with very little options

Depends on how much of the old guard goes in the summer.

Lundstram and Barasic are away. If we go into next season with Tav and Goldson as the main defenders, personally i don't believe he'll last the season.

I love these threads. Despite still having one point more than them since he came and winning a trophy and in another final. Dragged us from a poor position to get out the group in Europe and gave a good Benfica a game. He has got a poor group to over achieve and needs new players. Yes we have not beat them but the truth is they have better players simple. He deserves support and the chance to bring in his players then we judge

Beale had better players to call on

A manager with the amount of injuries we have had will always struggle, even if those players are better on paper than our oppositions, so many individual components that impact it

Diomande and Cortes look like good players, more like them and keeping players we do have fit and we will be fine, tbh.
I just don’t see it with diomande. Was awful in big games, wants to much time on the ball and can do the simple thing

Worth a read for those who think that there’s zero blame on Clement.

Everything he was so good at for the first five months have went out the window in the last five weeks.

Clement was so good at finding solutions to whatever problems he encountered but now he seems completely stuck on 4-2-3-1 even when it's being shown to not work and especially not against yesterday's opponents. Pre match I have never saw such an overwhelming consensus on FF on the need for three central midfielders to match them yesterday. 99% of the board said it so this isn't hindsight and yet the manager went with a guy in the number 10 role who can't run, can't be bothered tracking back and who was eaten alive fitness wise by Celtic at Ibrox five weeks ago. And the manager went with him yesterday as if it was going to be different. It was stupidity and that's on no one else bar him.

Right now we have no plan or structure other than to fire the ball into the corners and play percentages.

He's managing a squad of players that have chucked it.
They are mentally weak and the only way to fix it now is to clear out the players who have continually let us down these last years.
The continual slow starts to games is a behavioural issue that points to a set of players with no belief.
From what I hear this is talked about constantly by the manager and staff with the players yet keeps happening.
I think the manager will address this in the summer.

I’m somewhere between options 1 & 3.

Yes, he’s had to deal with a lot of injuries (Cortes in particular has hurt us) but his selections against the filth haven’t helped his cause.

Calling more than 30% of the vote “panty wetters” and saying the thread is Timmy porn just because there are legitimate concerns raised. I thought this was supposed to be a discussion board?

It’s as if people think the thoughts on here make any sort of tangible difference to the performance of the players and manager. Like they start every day of training with a browse of FF.

And last I checked the vote said “unsure” - not sack him. God forbid there are allowed to be some opinions other than “100% - he’s the man - we’ll be celebrating the title next May”

But it seems healthy skepticism (despite everything we’ve been through as a support) means you’re a panty wetter to some folks.

I'd swap him for Derek McInnes right now. I firmly believe we should have DM in for the start of next season or we are heading for total diaster again next season.

Yes but he better work out how to beat them and he better do it quickly. Forget everything else, a Rangers manager who can’t win old firm games is not a Rangers manager.

The manager came in and inherited a shambles. Managed to win a trophy and claw our way back in to the title race.

3 games against that mob have shown the same set up and the same issues.

Warning signs for me are the lack of any noticeable game plan (other than long ball) and zero tactical tweaks with like for like subs.

We’ve been decimated by injuries and he’s still working with players he probably doesn’t have on the long term plans but what’s the consensus?

Few concerns there for me but we need to back him with his own players.
The shambles he inherited are all he has got- until the summer transfer window- he knows who will be out the door in the summer

Next season it will be Phil’s team we will be judging not Beale’s bottlers

Yes. He's a victim of his own success. This season was a total write off in October and a free hit. No one gave us a hope of winning anything

Fast forward to 11th May - yesterday we were the only team in Scotland still going for a treble. Don't let them forget that.

And we still have a good chance of winning the most trophies in Scotland this season too.

Worth a read for those who think that there’s zero blame on Clement.
Who the fucks John walker
Another pretend journo
Clements previous clubs he had fast wingers
And decent midfielders

We don't have the players to play the style he wants and basically just trying to win by Aby means
Walter Smith used to do it he didn't exactly have a style

so the shelf life of a Rangers Manager is now measured in months?
The same was said about Pedro and Beale. If you can't get results in the old firm games there is always going to be pressure. Gerrard took to his second game to get a result against them, that's what is needed to get given time.
