Gareth McAuley blasts Celtic's 'tainted and hollow' title

That was no “staggering attack”. He was complimentary at times and being the good professional he clearly is, even felt a bit sorry for their manager and players because they weren’t given the opportunity to win the title. Being awarded a championship win and not actually clinching it on the park would rankle with any true sportsperson. Lennon, Brown and more are definitely not true sportsmen.

does anyone remember the NIAR VHS from 1997 when the start of it is a guy and his son with the kid asking "dad, tell me about 9 In A Row" then Sash's Encore Une Fois plays over clips of the season

what the hell is their DVD going to be like? Rod Stewart singing about how he pishes himself and the "tell me about nine in a row" cutting to a Youtube video of somebody quarantining an e-mail? :D

Their dvd will start with a voiceover about how in the midst of death they beat all odds and deserved the title. The camera will slowly fade from a black screen to show Peter wheeling out Neil with a gimp mask on in the boardroom. At the end of dvd there will be a compilation of all the ref misunderstandings and finished with a dedication to the spfl, who worked tirelessly during these darkest of days to end the league.

Contributions will come from Keef,,mutton, and Declan from declanville. " We wur pure dead brilliant in the last 8 games man , the one -two phone calls between Peter and Nelms was pure mental an aw that no."

I enjoyed reading that and imagine a few of them will be foaming reading it :D

I wonder which one of them will be trotted out to have their say on it?

Great to see someone telling the truth and being honest

6 tainted * titles and they think it’s the same achievement as previous teams have secured but honest people realise it’s not the same

Handing them a title with 9 games for us to play sums the tramps up

Classless bastards like TLB and Lego Eater are devoid of any morals or decency

Nearly 40,000 dead in UK and they are ‘celebrating’ another tainted title

Well said Gareth. Calls out the farce we all know that it is

55 is the holy grail for Rangers and when it comes we should never ever let them forget how they celebrated this tainted title. It is honestly beyond small time and something we need to own and lord over them. I’ve noticed that their relatively normal fans have had nothing to say about the award - “award” being the operative word - but the rabid Twitter types whose lives are defined by Celtic are doubling down on it purely because they know in their heart of hearts that it’s all a bit hollow.

What an absolutely tremendous fishing expedition from big G.

Absolutely factually correct - the way he delivers it though is just fucking glorious.

Telling the God's honest truth AND sensationally trolling and putting Celtic and Neil Lennon down at the same time.

Well done Gareth, I applaud you!

That's the most bang-on assessment of the whole thing I've seen. I've been saying it all along, instead of getting wound up and angry we should be commiserating with them and saying we feel sorry for them. They're putting on a front but deep down they all know they didn't win it and it kills them.

Well said big man. He’s bang on with everything there.... so that’s 3 nearly legitimate titles out of 9 , not much to shout about really is it... thank the lord we ain’t like them

Alex Rae and Barry Ferguson should be doing likewise.

Macaulay has only said what these two puppets wouldn't say for fear of a backlash from the mentally challenged hoards. Well shame on them.

Big Garreth can walk tall for telling the truth and importantly backing up his opinion with facts that are irrefutable. He's chosen to speak out without the slightest fear of reprisal and his words are damaging and so welcome in this sea of horse shit we allow ourselves to swim in up here. In a few sentences he's just about managed to encapsulate the feeling of the entire Rangers support. That in itself speaks volumes about the man.

Clearly and concisely puts the ambulance chasing pricks in their place. Well played sir!

That interview is word for word perfect.

But it’s not hard to state how blatantly absurd the situation is in this back water of a country.

It makes it all the more ridiculous that the media and footballing “personalities” in Scotland are actively pulling to dress up that club as having achieved something special.

Football in Scotland is run for the benefit of one club. Big Gareth has nailed it.

Wow, that’s lifted my spirits.
Absolutely nothing in that article can be argued with, maybe with the exception of the Lego eater being a great player.
He’s nailed it, well done sir.

Well he is hitting them with truth! An honest read gets the sporting integrity thumbs up from me! Incidentally we should never call this title 9 it should be known as the *gift or 8.75!
Eight and three quarters
They shag their sons and their daughters.

The Northern Irishman said: “I actually feel sorry for the Celtic players. They didn’t win the title on the pitch, they were handed it.

“They have officially been crowned champions, their ninth success in a row, but this triumph will always be tainted and hollow.

“All their hard work, dedication and gutsy performances when they grinded out results will be forgotten. In the record books there will always be an asterisk beside this season’s Championship

“I know Neil Lennon was on television saying that this title win was the greatest one under his management, but that was all for show and to wind up the Rangers fans watching at home.

“Deep down it will rankle him that his team weren’t able to secure the title on the pitch.

“Of course, it wasn’t their fault. The Covid-19 pandemic sadly intervened.

“But, as a result, history will not look too kindly on this Celtic nine-in-a-row team and that will hurt the current crop of players.

“They’ll never be revered in the same light as the great Celtic sides that won nine-in-a row between 1966 and 1974, or the Rangers teams between 1989 and 1997.

“Those players are Old Firm royalty. They won Championships after titanic and terrific battles against top sides.

“Yet, the Celtic sides of the last nine years, while successful, will be remembered for winning titles when Rangers weren’t in the league and then being handed the title.

“That must be so frustrating for players who thrive on competition. I say this as a former professional footballer and a competitor, not as a former Rangers player.

“I would feel exactly the same way if it were the blue half of Glasgow in this position.

“I certainly wouldn’t be celebrating because, as a professional sportsperson, you crave competition, the thrill of the win after a hard-fought battle and knowing you have given everything possible to beat your opponent on a level playing field.

“Scott Brown is a great player in Scottish football and I know he would love to be regarded in the same way as the nine-in-a row Celtic players of the past, but that’s not going to happen.

“He’ll be held in high esteem, but not on the same level as a Bobby Lennox or Stevie Chalmers.

“If a season cannot be finished on the pitch, then for the integrity of the league, it should be voided.”

Speaking in the Sunday Life newspaper, McAuley also took a bat to the SPFL over their treatment of Hearts and continued: “There were 24 points left to play for. I’m convinced they would have come on strong in the closing stages and avoided the trap door.

“If we take the SPFL’s logic, Leicester City would never have won the Premier League.

“A year before they were crowned champions, Leicester were bottom of the league and in serious danger of going down. But they rallied hard in the remaining weeks of the season and avoided the drop. The next year they were champions.

“But if a pandemic had struck in 2015, going by Scottish rules, Leicester would have been relegated and there would have been no Championship the following year.

“Championship success, relegation and promotion cannot be decided in a boardroom. Otherwise you are questioning sporting integrity and it is horrible.

“Hearts should not have to go to court over a football decision. It’s a shambles and really sums up Scottish football recently. The washing of dirty linen in public was particularly unedifying.

“The biggest problem I can see is that important decisions are being made by people who have never really been involved in the game from a playing point of view.”
Perfectly put.

They know it, we know it. This period has been the darkest in our football history. The national team full of mentally challengeds constantly horsed into obscurity. The mentally challengeds constantly horsed in Europe. The mentally challenged nonentity Brown epitomises the dreadful lack of quality that was allowed to damage our game.
Add in a complicit governing body and the worst referees in my lifetime.
Tainted doesn't even begin to cover it.
