Provided we win the league and gain automatic entry to the Champions League, an additional two coefficient points earned by beating Lyon will result in a higher placing in the ten year coefficient ranks. Depending on the composition of the other CL entrants, that could equate to an extra 1,137,000 euros or even double that.

All ifs, buts and maybes granted, but if Gio can get the balance right and take advantage of Lyon potentially resting players, a win could be worth millions for years to come. Taking this into account, no game in Europe can ever be called a dead rubber.

Having said that, I fully appreciate where others are coming from with regards the league match being more important.
