Not signing a number nine in the January window.

You could put any striker in the world up front and it wouldn’t make a difference. The midfield is our problem and has been for years. How many goals and assists have Lawrence, lundstram, diomande etc scored between them this season?

Ridvan was supposed to be off in Jan, tgat fell through, we'd have used that money to get a striker imo.

A number 9 isn’t the issue. Dessers has missed a lot of sitters but his goal return has actually been decent. The issue is we have nobody anywhere else on the park who can chip in with goals. Tavernier only chips in because he’s our set piece specialist.
However against scum when they play maieda he has to defend as doest have the pace to go forward and midfield don't cover anymore when he does

I do think clement has nullified tav in his he wants him to play now

Been saying the same on here for years. We just don’t control games especially against them.

Not adequately replacing Davis, an obsession with no. 10s and hoping Jack will be fit has held us back for years.

I just don’t think that was our issue today. What striker in the world changes how today went for us?

Could that turn out to be one of the costliest decisions we will ever make or not make as it goes?

A few people said at the time that this could have be the difference between winning and losing the league and while it’s not the only reason it has partially come to fruition. Whether Shankland was that forward we needed or it was someone else we clearly didn’t have the cash to get them or didn’t want to pay the January transfer premium.

Every good team needs a good spine, centre half, central midfielder and centre forward we have no spine at all and I would expect the manager to make this his priority during the close season.

IMO opinion we should definitely have signed a number 9. I blame the manager for going with Dessers. OK we apparently didnt have the money to sign Shankland or similar but my point is that lot got the guy from Norwich on loan and he scores for them.
With all the connections at Ibrox could we have not brokered such a loan deal? We were told Silva was not a number 9 so that one doesnt stand up.
We knew at the time it would likely backfire so i put the blame at the managers door.

Our number 9 has since the winter break scored more goals than anyone else in the league, including Shankland who's now gone months without a goal from open play. Dessers has 8 goals since Shankland last netted outwith penalties.

We've lost because we've played the likes of Lundstram consistently and have a team of bottlers. Dessers isn't to blame although he isn't the answer either long term.

Our defense, Tav being unable to defend against half decent opposition and has been shite for ages, Goldsons form falling off a cliff, Souttar being an absolute bombscare and Yilmaz injury meaning we have to play Borna Backoff. Our Midfield playing Lundstram who only plays well when it suits him and has called it in, Lawrence who's a wide left without the legs shoehorned into midfield, our only decently wingers missing through injury those are the biggest issues by far.

But yes, had we signed Shankland who hasn't scored in months, we'd be in a better place.

Another striker when have 2 or 3 more on the books some on loan/injured so why would we pay for another?
This is a team game the rest of the team should be chipping in as for Lundstrum hopefully he goes to Turkey or Ipswich , if Gerard going to Liverpool as rumoured then no fees allegedly for Tavernier or Goldson for the Clement rebuild.
The rebuild has to be bang on hopefully Clement can bring in a quality player or two from his knowledge and travels.

Todd too. As creative as he appears to be, his actual contributions haven’t been good enough.

Middle to front we have been abysmal for a long time.

A complete lack of mobility and control from our midfielders.

A lack of pace, creativity and goals from most of our wide players and strikers.

Been a theme for several seasons and it's never been properly addressed.

our most dangerous player is still our right back. Says it all

There was only 2 we could go for with a good chance of settling quickly. Nobody wanted them, but the fact silva is rated at 35 Mill, tells us how barking mad the market is now.

Trying to keep up is doing damage to some fine clubs by getting them into a financial mess. We've been there, now more are getting to where we have been.

No money in January. Were 2 points clear at top after 30 games. Thrown it away and reason isn't not spending money we didn't have in Jan. Performances and intensity in games such as Ross County and Dundee are more worrying

Not replacing players we all know are either (or both) physically or mentally weak over the last three seasons, and signing a bad load of shite in the summer, cost this title.

I raged a bit in January that signing a striker would cost us.

I’ve changed my mind a bit on that since - we would have found a way to shite the bed even if we had signed Harry Kane.
