1855 - Moses McNeil was born in Rhu in Dunbartonshire.
Put quite simply, Rangers Football Club wouldn't exist had it not been for Moses McLay McNeil. As well as being the founder member of the club, he went on to make 34 appearances and scored a total of 9 goals. He left Rangers in 1882 and retired from the game, then went on to become a commercial traveller by trade. He died in 1938 at the age of 83
1881 - Nottingham Forest 0 Rangers 0 - Friendly (2,000)
By the time Rangers travelled down to Nottingham, the Forest club had moved to a new ground at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground (about 100 yards from their current home ground and which still exists as a cricket ground). The match was played under two different sets of rules;in the first half the Scottish rules were observed, and in the second half the game reverted to the English rules. The basic differences concerned the throw-in;in the English game, the thrower was required to throw the ball at right angles to the touch-line,whereas the Scottish rule enable the ball to be thrown at any angle. The game ended goaless, but there was an interesting sequel when Rangers played their Scottish Cup-tie against South Western on December 3rd.
