1962 - Ally McCoist born in Bellshill. Although Ally was spotted by Rangers whilst still a youngster, he twice rejected offers to join the club in order to begin his career at the mere humble surroundings of St.Johnstone. This was followed by a brief spell with Sunderland in the English Football League before finally returning home and joining Rangers in June 1983 for £185,000. After a hesitant start to his Ibrox career, Ally became established as one of the finest goalscorers of his age, netting better than a goal every other game for Rangers and becoming the clubs highest goalscorer. he won an abundance of medals at Rangers, including the championship nine times in a row.
