A wee bit more history for you. This subject has been a history lesson for me today. No surprise to see deceitfulness from their first breath.
Have Hibs and their fans forgotten their history? There seems to be very little mention of this nowadays when it should really be a rivalry.
In 1887, Hibs won the Scottish Cup. Despite overwhelming evidence that Hibernian paid players, at the time against the rules, defeated Dumbarton‘s appeal was rejected. Scrutiny of the Hibs accounts revealed that despite three separate treasurers being named, the accounts were all in the same hand. Justice of sorts followed when some weeks later, the Hibs treasurer McFadden, absconded to Canada with the club funds and monies belonging to the Archdiocese of Edinburgh. So, not just Celtic plundering Hibs in the early days!
In 1893, the plundered, ransacked Hibernian were readmitted to the league, recompense for the efforts made to recover from mismanagement, financial plunder and also the “theft” of six of their best players by the newly formed Celtic in 1888!
