Absolutely. Some stories just can't be written.A fitting tribute to a Rangers legend.
Love it. I was unable to post a write up. Thank you.On This Day 100 Years ago…
On the 7th of March 1921 in the small village of Forth, South Lanarkshire, the eldest son of Grace and Walter Waddell was born in Granny Orr’s building in the Main Street. The building is now R.S. McColl’s shop.
Willie Waddell would grow up to to become a Rangers Legend both on and off the park. He had a successful playing career with Rangers and Scotland before becoming manager of Kilmarnock FC and leading them to their only league title.
After a spell in journalism Willie returned to Rangers as manager and led them to winning the European Cup Winners Cup in Barcelona. He later became General Manager and held several other positions in the club.
Willie Waddell was a major force in the reconstruction of Ibrox stadium after the Ibrox disaster in 1971.
He was quoted as saying -
“ The act of pulling that blue jersey over your head did something to you.
All the talk about traditional.
About the privilege and responsibility that went with being a Rangers player definitely had it’s affect”
Happy 100th Birthday Mr Waddell
sometimes the stars align perfectly.Fate is a Rangers fan.
A proper Rangers man, his primary concern after the Ibrox disaster was to protect future generations of Rangers supporters, and he did.Gerrard in many ways has similarities to Waddell
That sheer force of will. The ability to steer a club through a dark ebb. The vision to see it into a better place.
Significant men. Rangers men. The best kind.
Been through the village hundreds of times when I was on the new build biomass plant at Levenseat, just up the road. Forth Is Blue !
Wow. That's amazing, lovely wee bit of family insight. My Wife knows his family, truly lovely people too.
