We don’t know what Hearts have tried to do as it was all private and to be honest I couldn’t care less about them or Thistle.
Our board were issuing statements that made it look like we had evidence that the SPFL were corrupt and issued a dossier to try and back up our claims.
Why go to all that bother and then do nothing just because Hearts failed.
Why haven’t we demanded answers as to why the SFA wrote to UEFA before the vote took place?
Why have we not demanded answers as to why Mulraney was calling clubs and putting pressure on them?
Have we received a copy of the Deloitte internal review?
We should be demanding answers to every question that was in our dossier but it looks to me we fell at the first hurdle and have now backed off.
We now look weak.
We look weak because we ARE weak.
Everybody is weak in comparison to the cabal. Lawwell never put his men in position just to throw up his hands and say "OK, it's a fair cop" at first time of asking.
Rangers, in my opinion, dreadfully underestimated on two factors : 1) the actual strength of the cabal's position and, 2) the complete indifference to the obvious corruption by the vast majority of clubs in all divisions.
A major part of the cabal's power rests in the Scottish media. Their influence is everywhere and shows itself every day but it would appear that our board completely (incredibly!!) underestimated the fact. The moment Rangers started talking big the media were already sitting waiting with their bylines designed to discredit whatever we had to say. Rather naively we walked straight into it. The press started smirking about "supposed smoking guns" and this became the narrative even though no-one from Rangers had used the term. But, the damage was done, everybody awaited the now much-quoted smoking gun.
So, basically having tried a frontal attack, it was in no way convincing to any onlookers, the cabal continued to smirk and swat us aside, and we ended up looking like complete duds.
However, I'm living in the hope that we are, in the background, working on ways and means to play the devious bastards at their own game. I think there are signs that people are starting to see the corruption for exactly what it is, and are seeing the damage that is being done to the game in this headlong pursuit of only looking after the interests of celtc alone.
In my experience within business and management, full frontal attacks on the establishment rarely succeed, but can expose the failings of, and sufficiently damage the reputation of, the establishment to an extent that subsequent, more measured attacks can win through.
It's all very frustrating for us (and, slowly but surely, fans of other clubs) but I for one believe things are underway behind the scenes.
Frankly, I have to believe it.
