Not since the late 90’sI noticed again that the players are all arriving now with tracksuits etc on . I thought we were always for every home game the collar and tie ?
Eh? The players have arrived for years in tracksuitsI noticed again that the players are all arriving now with tracksuits etc on . I thought we were always for every home game the collar and tie ?
I wasn’t sure if it was just since COVID etc . Whilst I’m sure it’s not a drama I do think it looked better and in a sense made us look a level above other clubsNot since the late 90’s
Aren't we stricter with the manager wearing a collar and tie nowadays, seem to remember Gerrard saying something about this when he joined the club having preferred to wear the training kit?I noticed again that the players are all arriving now with tracksuits etc on . I thought we were always for every home game the collar and tie ?
must be a trip waking up 20 years later seeing gio on the touchline with the suit now. Haha.I noticed again that the players are all arriving now with tracksuits etc on . I thought we were always for every home game the collar and tie ?
Wtf has covid got to do with wearing suits?I wasn’t sure if it was just since COVID etc . Whilst I’m sure it’s not a drama I do think it looked better and in a sense made us look a level above other clubs
Fair enough . Thread was not designed to have a go .must be a trip waking up 20 years later seeing gio on the touchline with the suit now. Haha.
On a serious note it looks great but not necessary now. All about comfort. Long as we wear it at finals and the manager wears it that’s all that matters
Remember when changing facilities etc couldn’t be used so obviously easier to wear tracksuits etc . Or have you forgot that bitWtf has covid got to do with wearing suits?
Aye Gerrard disliked it, then went to villa and every game he’s been in a shirt and tie there. Think in the end he got what it signifies and has stuck with itAren't we stricter with the manager wearing a collar and tie nowadays, seem to remember Gerrard saying something about this when he joined the club having preferred to wear the training kit?
That makes no sense. You still have to get changed no matter what you turn up in.Remember when changing facilities etc couldn’t be used so obviously easier to wear tracksuits etc . Or have you forgot that bit
It's to do with covid, the rules are ✓wash your hands ✓wear a face covering ✓make space ✓Don't wear suitsI wasn’t sure if it was just since COVID etc . Whilst I’m sure it’s not a drama I do think it looked better and in a sense made us look a level above other clubs
He did say this but maybe he changed because at villa he hasn't worn a tracksuit yet eitherAren't we stricter with the manager wearing a collar and tie nowadays, seem to remember Gerrard saying something about this when he joined the club having preferred to wear the training kit?
Gerrard said it was in his contract that he had to wear a suit.Aren't we stricter with the manager wearing a collar and tie nowadays, seem to remember Gerrard saying something about this when he joined the club having preferred to wear the training kit?
I’m sure it all changed when Advocaat was the manager. It was always a club rule to arrive at training and games in a suit/shirt/tie.
Ally talks about in his book, when the rules were relaxed or changed, I am unsure.
Another poster may be able to confirm.
Is it harder to take a suit jacket off than a tracksuit top?Remember when changing facilities etc couldn’t be used so obviously easier to wear tracksuits etc . Or have you forgot that bit
And I’ll do it again. Fedora is a much better hat style.I agree with the OP, was pretty annoyed last night when some wee fanny tried to flip my bowler hat right off my head
Coma guy ?I noticed again that the players are all arriving now with tracksuits etc on . I thought we were always for every home game the collar and tie ?
He gave an interview early saying that he would probably rather wear a tracksuit but was happy to go along with club tradition.Gerrard said it was in his contract that he had top wear a suit.
Would have laughed my socks off at this, but fortunately still wearing my 1920s sock garters after the game last night.I agree with the OP, was pretty annoyed last night when some wee fanny tried to flip my bowler hat right off my head
He still wears collar & tie at villaAren't we stricter with the manager wearing a collar and tie nowadays, seem to remember Gerrard saying something about this when he joined the club having preferred to wear the training kit?
I’m Smith’s second spell the players were still arriving at the games in club suits but the requirement for training was gone.I’m sure it all changed when Advocaat was the manager.
Slaters Loyal…Aye all the players arrive and warm up in a 3 piece suit you maniac
As long as they’re Tan or a fine is imposed to the guilty partyPretty sure Brogues are still enforced even when wearing tracksuits though, which is great to see IMO.
Personally I think that it looks much better when the manager is in a suit, regardless of clubAye Gerrard disliked it, then went to villa and every game he’s been in a shirt and tie there. Think in the end he got what it signifies and has stuck with it
Still good attire for nippin down the shops for a pint of milk!Pretty sure Brogues are still enforced even when wearing tracksuits though, which is great to see IMO.
Tims in my work fucking hate brown brogues.Love how the brogues thing- an Advocaat innovation - has become this article of faith that’s as old as time. Invention of tradition right there.
He at Villa now and wears collar and tie …Aren't we stricter with the manager wearing a collar and tie nowadays, seem to remember Gerrard saying something about this when he joined the club having preferred to wear the training kit?
So they wear their match kit under their tracksuits? Changing rooms are open.Remember when changing facilities etc couldn’t be used so obviously easier to wear tracksuits etc . Or have you forgot that bit
A lot of our players have had hair cuts to get the bowler hat fitting on the napper. Doesn't look right perched on a birds nest although I'd let fashion off, he'd look great with that big smile.Shows Bacuna doesn't have the right mentality IMO
As others have pointed out, doesn't mean he didn't say it when he was here...He at Villa now and wears collar and tie …
Sign of the times. Standards have slipped.
