I was quite happy when Alves limped off against the mentally challengeds at New Years and Bates came on in his place.

Bates is a better player and we were far better after the change and really should have won the game that day. The 2nd half that day was easily as good as we've played against the bheasts since coming back up.

Agreed on your last part.

When Bates first game on I certainly wasn’t pleased, but he went on to have a really good game. Both he and Wilson did well in games when we had more defending to do.

But I don’t agree with your Simon Murray, Moult shout, I didn’t see anyone bully Alves this year. He looked at times that his legs had gone, but that’s different.

The notion Alves is going to play next year is a bit daft...

We are clearly balls in on CB's.

We didn't sign Alves to get the return from him we got last season - a dud of a signing who won people over because he played at a decent level 6 years ago - done %^*& all for Rangers.

Not particularly no. Again why the need to shop in a market we can’t afford. Players are vastly over rated and valued and most around the 2 million mark are not that good.
There are other markets in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Spain which might get you better value players. Cuellar for example wasn’t a massive fee to buy and not far of what we payed for Pena.
The type of clubs I am talking about are ones who play in European competition and if we can afford them international experience also. If we have a good scouting network they should be able to find decent players at reasonable fees.
If we just shop in England unless we have silly money to spend we won’t get the quality of player needed to win the title.
Couldn't agree more, the Transfer market down south is becoming a rip off,why don't we look to Europeans, look at Italy, surely we could pick up one or two defenders there, given how great they are with defending, that's the first place I'd be looking.

His wages would make it restrictive as he’s probably on well over 40,000 a week add in a massive fee to buy and he’s not a world beater either.

We should be shopping in European markets when they aren’t as over inflated as England.
Mate if he's on that sort of cash and Sheff. Wed. want all of it paid then no chance obviously,i do wonder if they and he would be willing to do business though as he's not been getting a game for them for some time now.
Fifteen games he was either an unused sub or not in the matchday squad, another eleven games where he came off the bench in the second half,a dozen games when he DID play he got subbed off.

That's a lot of money not contributing much I'd suggest,no harm in asking the question.

If he can’t get a game for them do you think he’s good enough to take us to the next level?

Honestly can’t say I’ve ever seen very much of him just know he’s went for a lot of money and never been anywhere very long .

2 players of a good age IE Goldson and Bartley with a younger player for back up .

Anyone can be injured but signing players the wrong side of 30 is a high contributing fact of them being more susceptible to being injured.
For a Bartley with a poor injury history I'd prefer a Kanon who's an established international(Bailly's CH partner).

I'd be steering clear of anyone who's either over 33 or thereabouts,or has a dodgy injury history.
Onouha and Kanon have hardly missed a game due to injury in the last couple of years at all,the former has only missed games due to contract dispute as far as I'm aware-hence why he's available on a free.

Rare knack of sticking the ball in the net,and hitting the target a high percentage of the time.
He'd be suited to a team that does most of the attacking, like us.Fell out of favour and not suited to their style apparently.

He’s done fairly well in the Championship but so has Waghorn and Garner , I think we would get better value for money elsewhere.

A loan with an option to buy at a reasonable fee would be ok though.

How much would Kanon cost? I notice he’s contracted until 2022
A lot mate, transfrmarkt has him at two million but I reckon you'd be looking nearer double that,24 year old International left footed CH.A lot of money, but potential to make more in a few years.
Kanon, along with Onuoha and Sigurdsson on frees would be my preference if they were all willing to come.

Bartley played 45 games last season but he’s only been fit about half the time the rest of his career.

I am sure there are lots of decent CB’s that would do a good job for us hopefully our new scouting teams have identified some but time will tell.

Kanon was linked with Everton in April. I think you're being optimistic at £4m.

I hope these rumours about Collins and Pitmann are just that, rumours.
We need players better than what the Scum have and these aren’t it. In fact they are far too similar to the type of signings Warburton made.

The board need to find serious money to back Gerrard or he will fail like their 3 previous appointments at manager.
The Board made some positive decisions the last 2 days and obviously appointing SG was exciting.

However unless we get some serious investment and backing for the manager then he has no chance. We will not make a winning team picking up youngsters on loan from Liverpool or older players from English football.
Shagger and Arfield are decent quality but we need better than this in every defensive position, defensive midfield, creative midfield, right wing and a couple of forwards due to the mess the board and their last appointments have made.

When the window opens we will see who comes in , but if it’s the likes of Pittman and Collins then I see the same outcome as last season.
Even though we have been told we won’t be signing Skrtel, Lucas, etc the problem is it is this type of quality we need to win the title.

100% agree with this

If the rumours are true and we are going for the likes of Collins then we will once again be chasing second spot. And more to the point We will probably be looking for another manager this time next year.

I seriously don’t think we are let’s wait and see what happens over the next few weeks .

McGregor and Arfield already improve the squad , Sure we will see several more of similar pedigree.

Wish folk would stop getting their vag in a twist over every tabloid story, they do it to get hits on their website, it'll happen all summer, folk like Docstone are predicting an exciting summer.

I doubt every signing will get universal approval, but I've no doubt come our 1st game we'll have upgraded the squad and be ready to go.

This is the "silly season" for the media as the football is finished and the signing window isn't open yet. They will dangle lots of stories to try and increase their sales and if we believe them then more fool us. let's wait until SG finishes with the European Cup and gets back to the infinitely more serious business of managing the Rangers to 55 before we get our knickers in a twist.

I suspect our signings will fall into 3 categories.
1 Older experienced players on Bosmans or low fees - example McGregor
2 Young players on loan from EPL needing experience but of a better quality than we have had before .But paying a fair bit on wages
3- Players in their mid 20s with good further potential that we will spend most of our Transfer fee budget on ,with hopefully the ability to sell some of them on later at a profit.
It will be interesting to how thinft pan out by the end of August.

Hello guys, Liverpool fan here, been browsing the forums ever since Gerrard got the job and I’m glad to see, you’re all looking forwards to the new season and hopefully stevie can bring you guys the title back!

I’ve seen rangers have been linked to quite a few of Liverpool youngsters so thought I’d sign up to the forum to give you guys a little lowdown on them. I follow youth football quite closely (with most games being on LFCTV)

I’ve seen links to Solanke, Wilson, woodburn and Kent.

Solanke- he will definitely be going out on loan this summer. He’s got bags of talents. During pre season last summer he was the standout player there and we thought we had a gem on our hands but whenever he’s had his chance this season, he’s been very poor until the last game of the season there! I think he’d thrive up in Scotland. He’s got the physical attributes to succeed in Scotland with his pace and power. He’s a very intelligent player but he needs to be playing week in week out to see his potential fulfilled and what better place than playing under pressure at Ibrox in front of 50k+ fans!

Wilson- For me he’s our best prospect who’s came out of the academy after Trent Alexander Arnold. Every Liverpool fan who follow youth football are absolutely gobsmacked he hasn’t had minutes for the first team. He’s dominated football at every level he’s played and if he was to come to Scotland, I truly believe he’ll be one of the best player in the league! Klopp has said he’ll give him a chance this pre season to see what his level is at but I would love if he stayed at Liverpool and was an understudy for salah! He’s like a young version of salah without the pace. He’s an amazing dribbler, set piece specialist and he’s so clinical and cool in front of goal. If you guys get him on loan it’d be a real coup!

Woodburn- another one of our bright prospects, made the headlines when he became our youngest ever goal scorer and of course scoring that woldie on his wales debut! Everyone expected him to kick on this season and challenge for a place in the team but it’s been a stop start season for him with injuries. Another thing is we don’t know what his best position is yet. He’s played striker through the youth team but he’s way too small to play upfront just now, he’s technically gifted but doesn’t have the pace to play there. Klopp has been getting him to play in centre mid for the u23 and he’s basing his game on how lallana played there last season and tbf to the lad he’s been great when he’s played there for the youth team. Not sure how he’d deal with the physicality if he was to come to Scotland

Ryan Kent- this boy is an enigma. Hes such a 2 footed player. Takes corners and set pieces with either foot. He was another one that was great in pre season but he didn’t really kick on and has been doing very badly on loan. He’s rapid and he can take on a man with ease but his end product leaves a lot to be desired. He’s very similar to Wilson at doing the dribbling but his end product can be very hit and miss. Don’t think he’ll ever make it with us tbh so can see us either selling or loaning him this season.

Anything else you guys want to know about any player past/present let me know and I’ll see if I can help

Good post and good luck tonight

Bale puts out a come and get me plea.....”I need to be playing” cue Stevie G announcing tomorrow that he signed him to a bullet proof contract in Kiev after tonight’s celebrations!!!!

No where near good enough. We need players who start for their teams!

Has anything actually happened since the Skrtel thing?

This thread seems to have lost some of it's impetus.

I have heard tonight from Andrew Parkes Group Managing Editor asking me to clarify the particular comments and he is currently investigating the complaint. Transpires they are party of the same group as the Times and the Guardian.

My response

Dear Andy,

I refer specifically to the content in the article
http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/162...might_not_be_a_dream_move_for_Connor_Goldson/

And in particular to the comments of the author
"Would joining Rangers really be a progressive step for Goldson's career?

Rangers are unstable, their debts keep on mounting and appointing Gerrard is a gamble in their quest to close the gap on all-conquering neigbours Celtic. They are also the other big fish in an otherwise small pond."

As I explained in my prior email. Which I will even point out for you to save on time:

From Chairman Dave King's recent briefing to Journalists

http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport...g_says_share_issue_will_bring_in___6_million/

King claims the share issue will see loans converted to equity as well as bringing in fresh finance.

"There will be a balance between the conversion of loans versus raising of new cash," he said.

"At this stage there is nothing external other than existing shareholders and investors. We are not talking to anyone new, who is not there already.

"We haven't decided but at the moment I am thinking £6million new cash and the balance converted to loans."

However, Gerrard has not been given a precise figure for a transfer pot which will be available to himself and director of football Mark Allen.

"We have given the commitment that we will continue to invest in the squad and we will be a net investor," King said."We will provide additional net funds.

King gave a personal promise to increase his investment.

"I have to do that, I have already done that, in advance of next season," he said. "Because we continue to run at a deficit, deliberately, we have to satisfy the licensing authorities, the SFA, UEFA, that you have sufficient funds to fund your deficit.

"So we have had to give cash guarantees in advance of next season. So whether we raised money in a rights issue or not, we are in for the money, I am in for the money, I am underpinning the cash. The club is fully funded for next season."

So please explain how the Club being funded by loans from wealthy fan investors, and without security over assets, but instead for future share equity equals unstable?

Ibrox and the Training complex are worth 10's of millions in real estate which have deliberately been left out of any security, but will always be there to raise funds against should the Club ever reach an "unstable" state and require emergency funding. A clear indication Rangers are not even close to being unstable.

Roman Abramovic used a similar model to reshape Chelsea. The Rangers turmoil and skint Narrative is the one for those who fail to understand finance and business planning.

Therefore unless you wish to evidence that the aforementioned fan investors do not intent to continue funding any shortfall. I would ask you accept it was without foundation, is inaccurate and damaging to the Club. Therefore I request a retraction and removal of this aspect from the article online and shared on your social media.

Kind Regards

I just cant wait, I guess everyone is the same, I hope SG has got the type of money he will need to compete against them, I'm not to impressed with the names being banded about, but I guess it is just the silly season and we will have to learn to be more patent.

Next couple of signings really need to be centre halves.

I want both in for pre season training in 3 weeks time.
