Where were they all at the weekend when Chris Boyd was abused by the Celtic fans ?
Kilmarnock boss hit out strongly after last night's Scottish Cup clash at Ibrox and said the West of Scotland is like living in the dark ages.
Rangers have condemned the supporters who subjected Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke to sectarian abuse in Wednesday's Scottish Cup clash.
And manager Steven Gerrard has echoed the club's statement after Ibrox chiefs warned they would do "everything possible" to eradicate bigotry.
Clarke was furious after being labelled a “19th Century Terrorist b*******” from the stands as his side crashed out of the cup.
He mocked Rangers for claiming sectarianism was a thing of the past in talks after they offered him the chance to be named successor to Pedro Caixinha last season.
And he said the West of Scotland was like living in the dark ages.
Rangers issued a statement late last night condemning the abuse.
And, responding to issue at this morning's press conference, Rangers boss Gerrard said: "I wasn't aware of how Steve was feeling after the match when we met up for a beer.
"The club has issued a statement and we don't support any kind of unacceptable behaviour from the terraces.
"We want to try and stamp it out of the game in general so we’re always talking about the football”.
A Rangers spokesman said: “Rangers Football Club wishes to make it clear unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated at Ibrox.
“Everything possible will continue to be done to eradicate this kind of behaviour.”
Clarke's blast was backed by anti-sectarianism group Nil By Mouth this morning.
And pundit Michael Stewart also offered his support to the Killie boss saying it was time to bring in strict liability - where clubs can be punished for the behaviour of their fans.
He said: "This is a great country we have here. But we have a cancer and we have to stamp it out."
Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton added: “I love Scottish football but Steve Clarke is spot on to call out sectarian abuse.
“It is still a huge issue and we shouldn’t bury our heads in the sand.
“The people dishing out the abuse should be called out for what they are and dealt with...it is disgusting.”
