Tav Penalty Issues

Hateley nailed it at half time. After missing his last pen, he played this one safe. You can bet your ass he will smash the next one.

Think it's just a mental thing when he misses one the next one it's on his mind. Once he scores again he will be back to hammering them home.
The one thing about today is that I’d have saved his penalty today.
His miss last week was to the keepers left.
I told my WhatsApp group he’d go to the keepers right this time.

So the penalty experts on here would blast the ball in the top corner of the net. Stick to playing FIFA and let Tav take the penalties.

Tav will continue to take the penalties. This just happens sometimes. He will score give next one in Europe.

Does it though.
You’ve got all the info you need to make accurate assessment?
No. Never claimed that i did.
Merely stating that people can miss penalties regardless of the run up they take.
I prefer a long run up. Never feel confident of a player scoring from short run up

I can vouch for that approach.
(Not at the highest level in my case.)
However, at a very high level, Harry Kane had a fair bit of success going high right.

Bizarre post. Have you actually checked this ‘fact’ or are you just making it up?

Sergio Ramos takes the pens for Real Madrid and Spain btw

It is pretty meaningless in all honesty. Dennis Irwin was Man Utd’s penalty taker for ages and he was good with them (for younger bears, Irwin was a left back).

I have never liked his penalty style. Call me old fashioned but I like a penalty to be hit the way Albertz and Boyd used to take them. Head down and hit hard into the corners.

I always feel if the keeper guesses the right way he has a chance of saving his penalties because he doesn't put much pace on them.
The one against Aberdeen had plenty pace.. think he was trying to be to careful today

Anyway, no harm done

Hopefully we’ve learned from the last bad run he had. I think Hagi and Morelos both had a go and missed. Defoe is the only other player I’d let hit one if on the park.

Short run up with no power and direction he needs to practise

Nail on the head regarding his run up. That one today was like a replica of the first one that Hearts missed in the shoot out against that mob in the cup final. Two years ago when he missed a couple I had a debate with a couple of posters on here about his run up, which in my opinion was the root cause of the problem. He needs to look at it.

Absolutely correct.
There is absolutely no guaranteed formula for a successful penalty.
If there were, it’d have been found and copied.
One thing that cannot be factored in is the goalkeeper.
All he has to be is be lucky.

If he was better at pens every One would be right in the corners. Its not a dig at tav but look at the best penalty takers when do they ever miss
Dennis Irwin is the only penalty specialist (another defender btw to negate the defenders shouldn't be on penalties guy above) I can think of that was a designated taker and never missed a penalty during their career (I think). Who are you thinking of out of interest as virtually everyone misses a penalty here and there, Ronaldo and Messi included.

We had this last year, and then Morelos missed, Hagi missed and we got ourselves back to Tav for this season. He is very good at them but seems to second guess himself after a knock back.
I’d keep him on them, personally, hopefully stick one away before our critical European games in case we get an really important one.

Tav never give a look at the keeper before taking his kick. If he may had today he could have stuck it right in the middle as the keeper moved early.
He never does look at keeper all eyes on the ball he prob should take a look but I suppose it has worked for him.

Guarantee his next one is down the middle. Any half decent keeper will also predict this. Think he will miss again and then it will go to Alfie.

Graeme Alexander, the current Motherwell manager, was fairly successful from the spot.
Won me a fair bit with any time goal scorer bets and was my captain in a dream team selection in my work that also won me a few bob.

I can’t remember the exact numbers but I think in his career he’s scored 29 out of 37 penalties. He’s got a pretty decent record and no one scores 100% of them.

Best penalty taker I've ever seen was Mendieta. Had his head up during the run up and watched for the keeper to make his move, then coolly stroked it the other way. Don't remember seeing him miss one.
Edit - just googled it, he took 34 and missed 3. Still a pretty good record.

Today he was wary of putting it wide and was too safe. If he'd hit it harder it could have gone in but I would let him take the next one and change the taker if he misses it. He is generally a good penalty taker.

Here we go with the bams looking for arguments. Its an observation that most of the time tav doesn't hit what the pundits would call a “good penalty” yes everyone misses now and again im talking about the way that the penalties are hit

2 games in a row I’ve taken Tav to score anytime. 2 missed penalties. It’s on me. I will never bet him to score anytime again.

Apologies James.
Tav is the man just needs to stop being bit complacent slightly longer run up and have respect for the keeper he facesB-D

Whilst I agree with you the OP never mentioned Spain give examples in Scotland or England or has he a point?

Bam? Seriously? Your post I replied to 100% implied the best penalty takers NEVER miss and that Tav doesn't hit the corners at pace. I, politely, I may add, asked for an example, because everybody misses now and then and said he has scored at least 2 in the corners despite the keeper going the same way this season alone. We can leave it as I'm a bam and you're talking shite or converse like adults, your choice.

Tav in his career for us across all competitions has scored 29 and missed 7 penalties.

If Tav takes the same sort of penalty in a european tie we will all be raging.

It was dreadful, didnt fancy it no run up, no doubt where it was going, easy save for the keeper.

Yes it might be only be one penalty heres hoping as manager wont change i find it hard to believe with all these wonderful footballers we dont have someone else that can take a spot kick its a free whack from 12 years the whole team should fancy it.

No matter who you are in the world you are always going to miss a few, in saying that, I'm a firm believer that after you miss 2 you go to the back of the queue

Next!

We should have 3 or 4 penalty takers and the person on the pitch that feels most confident at the time should hit it...look at the finish by aribo he must be pretty good at hitting penalties, kents just scored hes confident, all the strikers must want a free hit.... i guess it means you avoid arguments but really makes no sense to me if anything i think it puts added pressure on the one player taking every single kick.

I used to think Alan Shearer never missed..

He scored 56 of his 67 penalties – giving him a conversion rate of 83.6%
