The most persecuted player ever to ply his trade in Scotland, according to a supposed journalist from BBC Scotland. I reckon the overt racism towards Alfredo Morelos, which still continues to this day, would suggest otherwise.
The reality is that Lennon led a charmed life both as a player and Manager in Scotland. The Scottish media revelled and laughed when Lennon as a player repeatedly flicked the v-sign to opposing supporters during games, they said nothing when he feigned injury to ensure an opposing player was red-carded, an offence for which they correctly pilloried Rangers Kyle Lafferty during a game against Aberdeen. This poster boy and supposed endless victim of sectarianism was caught on camera shouting vile sectarian abuse at the Rangers bench at Ibrox. Again, the Scottish media said nothing. It would be a lie to say that Lennon wasn't subject to verbal abuse, sectarian or otherwise, while in Scotland. However, sectarian bigots always attract other sectarian bigots. It is always worthwhile recalling that Lennon's own father stated that he would never visit the Piggery ever again due to the mindless abuse that his son was receiving every week from Celtc supporters. That countless Irish footballers have played in Scotland for more than a century without any " anti-Irish racism " directed towards them only confirms what everyone knows, and that is trouble attracts trouble. Scottish football, indeed Scottish society, will now be a calmer place with a toxic and poisonous influence removed with his long and overdue departure.
