Tierney is worth £40M, Man U & Bayern Munich will try sign him

No team in the world is going to spend £20 million let alone £40 million for a player playing in Scottish football.

Have they had a player in recent history who isn’t world class and worth £20m+. How are they not European champions yet, oh aye not half as good as they make out
 
A player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. They can throw figures like that about all they want but it's never going to happen.

On the down side, with their track record of getting ridiculous fees fore average players, some championship team with more money than sense will give them 8-9 million for him.
 
You could see this coming with the contract extension, he is bang average in my opinion.
 
Their first team alone must have a sell on value of 200 million Dembele ( or now Tierney) Dollars.
 
Waddell’s beyond parody and those fees are ridiculous.

He has his limitations, as do all young players, but to imply he’s not a very fine talent indeed is to defy logic.

I’d take one similar, without the poety name and education, at LB.
 
He's a good young player but what the hell is going on with the media up here? Are they that clueless about the game they write about?
 
When you look at what wanyama went for (12.5) and the fact Tierney has signed a new deal and Celtics figures are so healthy, I would imagine they will get around the 20 mark for him when he eventually goes


That's just the way transfers are these days. 20 mill is %^*& all to English clubs
 
Every time I've seen him play he just looks awkward on the ball and 9 times out of 10 it's a punt up the park or a misplaced pass.
 
It’s weird how all their players are worth millions upon millions now yet the one player they had on loan , who was actually bought for £12m, went down on that price after his first loan spell with them!

Even then they couldn’t afford to pay the £8m fee he was available for.
 
Man City spent £54 for Kyle Walker, and established England international fullback who played well in a Tottenham side that just finished 2nd in the EPL.

By that reckoning you’d have to say they could expect no more than £15-20m for him.

So glad I don't waste a single dembele on the Liam. It's choc full of pish.

Names given by Celtic to the media in a concerted effort to drive up the price.
 
He’s a good player in Scotland but for that sort of fee you are looking for a player that is a standout at CL and international level. Robertson’s fee of £10m is probably the most relevant yardstick but he has already done well in the epl and is a better player IMHO
 
There’s two things here, neither of them to do with the merits of Tierney the footballer.

Firstly, headlines such as these are effectively just click bait nowadays.

“£40m you say?!” and depending on your persuasion, said rag is duly lifted / clicked on to further ingest this hokum.

Will anyone seriously pay anything like that sort of money for Tierney? Of course not, but who cares? Job’s done.

And secondly, the still occasionally amusing notion that the Scottish tabloid media are somehow consciously or subconsciously persuading top EPL and European outfits to part with ludicrous sums of money to further the coffers of the green mob.

It’s one of the other annoying things about the compliant mhedia up here. Scumtic basically have most these so called journalists in their back pocket and they then report this kind of guff.
The sad thing about it is when they repeat it enough it will work. It may not be the silly £40m but it’ll be more than we’d get in the same circumstances as there’d be no such silly reports by the mhedia for one of our players.
 
Very similar in style and athleticism to our own Lee Wallace, bombs on, overlaps, gets crosses in, scores the odd goal but thus far not as prolific as Wallace, caught out of position often and less than convincing against top opposition.(to be fair to Lee he was by far Scotland’s best player against England at Wembley but given the media slant in Scotland his performance went largely unheralded)

Tierney is a decent prospect who will have to up his game somewhat beyond the canon fodder and mediocrity of Scottish football. Every time I have seen him against decent European standard players he has looked pretty unremarkable beyond having the odd gallop into opposition territory.

The kid is part of an overhyped Celtc side which was pretty much the core of the Scotland side which failed miserably to qualify for the World Cup from what was a pretty unremarkable group(England included). Every time they are tested at that higher level Celtc are made to look bang average, barring Anderlecht who are in crisis mode this season.

Funny that as all goes quiet on dembeles value, another player is talked up to ridiculous prices.

Tell you what is worth 10s of millions though - Celtics PR team. artificially inflating prices through media contacts ultimately keeps your value of assets high on the balance sheet, which would make things like obtaining a low interest bank loan much easier...........

I think that’s pretty much what most are saying, decent player who hasn’t looked as convincing against teams outwith Scotland both in Europe and on the international stage where it is acknowledged that he is rather irresponsibly played out of position to accommodate a player who can’t get a game for his club.(though if he was the bestest 40m quid left back on the planet you’d have thought he’d be first pick for his natural position)

He's a good player, but the paper is playing to its target audience. There are very few teams for Tierney. Many can't afford him ( I think they could get £20m for him),the top teams are unlikely to buy in Scotland.

Man Utd have Blind, Rojo and Shaw as LBs. Darmian can play there too. Bayern Munich have Alaba with Bernat and Rafina as backups. And they're going to spend £40m on him to play where?
 
Last Monday on RC he was 20 mil.

By Wed show it was 30mil.

Today from Waddell the Rangers hating bigot it's 40 mil.

No-one has an idea what`ll he go for but he has undoubted potential and will almost certainly get better. Remember on here many saying the same about Van Dyke - it`s only Scotland, pish in Europe etc and they`d never get £10m for him. They actually got more. Since then the market has gone nuts.
 
Don't really care about his valuation, but, I have a feeling he will end up a Scotland Centre Half alongside Ross McCrorie.
 
So when they get pumped in Europe it's because of the financial gulf, but according to media valuations this tim team is worth a couple of hundred million all in.
No take that kind of gulf into the SPFL.
