We’ve sat back and watched them spend £20 odd mill

Hindsight is a wondeful thing.

Let’s remember we had a side that absolutely blew the league away last season. Very few would doubt their ability to carry a very strong challenge forward into this season.

Even after 10 or so games, Management and the board would have a lot of faith in our current squad of our players going forward

This isn’t on the board, yes we could have recruited a bit better, that isn’t always the positive effect you would imagine as we have seen this season.

At the time, Diallo, Ramsey etc looked like good business to see us through till the end of the season.

We were looking for some of Patterson money to be spent on better players
Sorry the three players brought in January not good enough

The way forward for us is to invest in a small number of expensive and top quality players and mix this in with our home grown talent. If we can pick up good value quality like Morelos, Bassey all the better but I think we need to be careful with too many freebies/bargain basement signings that are more costly but don't add much more than the promoted youths would.

We didn't need to spend £20 million but we spent fcuk all, it's an absolute joke. If we can't afford to spend £5 million on one or two players then we're never going to progress. Even the bosmans signings are questionahle half the time. Apparently we've offer Fraisl a deal? Fucking dreadful goalie. Sakala has never kicked on. Souttar another who'll probably end injured long term. Guys like Veerman and Olsen ended up going for less than what we paid for Kent.

We have come back from financial hell and you would like to put us back there!. We would have had cash to spend had we got into champions League but Malmo meant we need to shop frugally. Spending money is no guarantee of sucses. Look at Ramsey and Diallo- how much would they have cost to buy yet even on loan they not got us the league. I think the majority of sensible supporters understand we need to look after our finances and not play roulette with them.

The reality is the yahoos have spent probably near £50m over the last several windows and will take that spending to around £75m or so by the end of next summer this is why we are starting to fall behind now from a position of strength.

Our board are just completely out of ideas and money now and go from one disaster to the next as we've seen this week.

The good will for them won't last forever if the yahoos keep winning trophy after trophy.

Europe has been excellent the last few seasons but that will soon disappear if fresh investment isn't brought in.

Mate we’re running at a 23m loss in the last set of accounts.

We’ve got to balance the books instead of spending silly money we don’t have.

Speculate to accumulate. They knew if we won the league this year we get CL riches.

What's the point doing so well in Europe, getting the coefficient up etc just to roll over domestically and hand it to Celtic.

It's not just this window either...we've hardly strengthened the last 2/3 windows.

Does this board have what it takes to take us to that next level , we cant even pay £5m for a player , its all bosmans

A player sale or 2 and a £40m CL jackpot would’ve took care of that.

Board are as culpable as the manager for me. We went stale and ended up regressing big time.

Can't sell players if you have no offers for them. Up until Patterson was sold we had a net deficit of £26m in transfer spend and that's before you consider all the cash wasted on loans, signing on fees for bosmans etc. We went stale because Gerrard was allowed to keep adding to the squad with no major sale in 3 years that doesn't happen anywhere else in football.

Only way could have spent is if we had sold someone for big money. The board had already pushed the boat out as far as they could.

Where was Rangers' £20m odd coming from ?

We didn't need to match their spend. But we needed to invest in the squad a bit more than we did. Nobody is/was asking to match their spend, folk just wanted the club to spend a bit of cash in areas we needed to.

I hate the fact that folk are conflating the two topics. Nobody is asking for wanton and reckless spending, but the fact we spent nada. Has meant we basically needed the same of group of players to go to the well for us again. Backfired massively.

That's not touching on the fact that our recruitment has been worrisome. Not a lot of long term planning shown, in January we should have went for longer term players, especially as it was chance for Gio to put a stamp on the team. Instead we got short termism in spades.

We coula have sold to reinvest, we also had Gerrard and Paterson money.
The little we had to deal with could have been better used, signing a wee guy from Man U and and injured Welsh man is scandelous

Have to agree CB.

From the 12-13m we got from Gerrard & Nathan, buying even one quality attacker ( Skov Olsen or another ) would have made a major difference, as we saw today.

So who’s going to throw tens of millions into our club who hasn’t already done so ?

For all of their faults, these guys put millions of their own money into Rangers Football Club.

How many people will do that ? In fact, out of 49,000 fans there today, how many of them put money into shares ? 1,000 ?
See post #37.

And done next to nothing. Negligence from our board IMO.

If they can’t find the cash, they need to invite fresh investment.

Huge alarm bells were ringing. We had to spend some of the Gerrard/Patterson cash in Jan.
Exactly mate, apparently the players are too blame but weve done exactly what they done last season and failed to improve.

Why are we not recruiting from within? Lowry showed more than enough to get a decent run against some of the other teams in the league, instead we are playing the same players every 3 days and then wonder why they look jaded.

We will probably make a profit on paper this year and have a great set of accounts with the Gerrard compo, Patterson sale, European money and record commercial income. But it we don’t win any silverware, who cares!

I think Gerrard left because he wasn’t able to strengthen the team and had to shop in the bargain basement, despite a couple of good UEFA runs and us winning 55.

Our transfer strategy in the past few windows has been very poor, with the exception of Patterson sale which was good money for a young lad with potential but blocked by our captain, so effectively didn’t weaken the first 11.

At the start of the window Gerrard spoke really positive about bringing a few quality players. A few weeks later we’ve signed Lundstram and Bacuna and Gerrard is wanting out.

Clearly was not happy with the backing he got and has proven to be correct

Our penny pinching will come back to haunt us. Instead of us bringing in 1 or 2 quality additions each year we are now seeing several players come towards end of their contracts all at the same time and we are looking at a big turnover and rebuild coming all at one time.

I thought we looked a very tired team today, lacking energy, power, pace.

They looked shite & we couldn’t take advantage of it.

Grigo, today was beyond frustrating, there is not much between the two clubs.

I honestly don’t think we deserved to lose. We must invest this summer though, going in to next season with Kent, Aribo and Morelos running down their contracts is considerable problem

how do the rest of the league manage to take points from us when they have no money to spend
