Celtic crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of AEK Athens after they were beaten 2-1 in the capital of Greece.

Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League, Rodgers’ side had it all to do in their trip to Athens.

But goals from Bito Rodrigo Galo and Marko Livaja either side of the break saw Celtic fail to book a spot against Malmo or MOL Vidi in a play-off to reach the group stages.

Celtic had been looking to make it to the Champions League group stage for the third year running, while AEK have not been involved at that level since 2006-07 when they eased past Hearts in their sole qualifier.

A trip to Greece rounded off a miserable few days for Rodgers after his side suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Hearts on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership.

And it seems the back to back results have put a huge amount of pressure on the former Liverpool boss with fans questioning his future.

One fan simply tweeted: “Sack Rodgers”.

“Rodgers 1st to get the sack this year,” said another.

While another fan put blame on the board over a lack of signings, saying: “There has to be protests against the board now.

“This is Brendan Rodgers FIFTH transfer window and we’re playing a must win game with just TWO of his signings starting.

“That’s an absolute disgrace, totally unacceptable.”

Another vented their frustrations, saying: "Why do every time Celtic get in a position of power, the board get complacent and look what happens.

"Granted Europe league is our level. But f*** me to not strengthen that squad is criminal. Defence has been needing strengthened at that level for years. Yet here we are".

One supporter said: “Don’t tweet again unless it’s announcing the boards resignation please”.

Prior to kick-off, former Celtic star John Collins insisted progressing in the Champions League was more important than any Scottish Premiership game.

“They rested key players for tonight because it means so much," he said.

"You can afford to lose points in the league and catch up, but you can't afford to lose tonight's game or it's all over for the season.

"The big moan up here among Celtic fans is that they haven't invested enough and signed enough players in the summer.

"I know Brendan's been interested in a few, but it's not as easy getting players in because they don't have huge transfer funds and don't have the huge television money like the English clubs.

"So when they go looking for players, the price is up. A few years ago, you could get the Dedryck Boyatas for £1.5m, but that's not the case now.

"I think when they are going for players, they are being asked for more money because the clubs selling to Celtic know they are making big money when they sell them on."

Immense

No happening anytime soon, his grip on all things Scottish Football is still there.
Liewell is the one we need to see go.
He leaves the midden, they lose control of Scottish football.

I'd say Brenda will be the first to jump.

After this season Dembele is into his final year, nobody will spend big on him just now due to his recurring hamstring trouble, Tierney can't go to any EPL side as the windows shut now. Ntchtam looks about the only player they could get a decent fee for, but the dhims would go apeshit if they cashed in.
All in all its all very interesting.

Ntcham or Dembele will be the only ones who could get decent money for the problem now is that the English window is shut they will need to accept smaller fees but they will need them off the wage bill

I would like to see Ntcham or Rogic go. Think they would miss either of them.
Edit: Scrap that I want them to keep an unhappy squad on massive wages. When we beat them I don’t want them having any excuses.

they arent happy with Brenda over there just seen this on their Brenda thread

He's still heavily dependent on Deila's legacy - that's the sad part. He had 1 signing of his playing tonight. The rest were all well before him.

Big money spent on Kouassi - a defensive midfielder who you'd expect to be crucial in these games. He's not good enough. Gamboa was bought for a similar fee to Lustig - not good enough. De Vries was bought to replace the free transfer Gordon - garbage. Sinclair is on massive money and isn't good enough to displace an out of position youth player brought through by Deila in McGregor. Musonda was an expensive flop. Hayes isn't anywhere near good enough. Hendry is one of the worst centre halves we've ever had. Compper is a joke.

His signing record is not good at all and he's overseen us taking some absolute hiding's due to his naivety. I don't know if I'd ever trust us under Rodgers to progress in Europe when we're this poor at defending and recruiting.

You'd think they'd find some secure in his historic double treble

No? Ah well.

That is really the crux of their problem. It could be a perfect storm. They’ve overspent massively on wages and are relying on CL or overinflated sales. For a few years, they’ve failed to get players that attract crazy bids. They’ve turned down decent bids and probably oversold the actual values to fans. But now that they desperately need to sell, their main assets are hobbled and/or downed tools. And the English golden goose has closed its egg chute so they’ll have to go begging around leagues with more financial restraint. Outwith England, other leagues tend to have top teams who can spend big and ordinary teams who can’t. None of their players are attractive in the slightest to a top side.

For a laugh SG should bid for one of their '' Superstars '' and a very low bid at that, the hordes would go apeshit feckin tonto, the only problem would be if they accepted and we got landed with one of their duds.
