Celtic crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of AEK Athens after they were beaten 2-1 in the capital of Greece.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League, Rodgers’ side had it all to do in their trip to Athens.
But goals from Bito Rodrigo Galo and Marko Livaja either side of the break saw Celtic fail to book a spot against Malmo or MOL Vidi in a play-off to reach the group stages.
Celtic had been looking to make it to the Champions League group stage for the third year running, while AEK have not been involved at that level since 2006-07 when they eased past Hearts in their sole qualifier.

A trip to Greece rounded off a miserable few days for Rodgers after his side suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Hearts on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership.
And it seems the back to back results have put a huge amount of pressure on the former Liverpool boss with fans questioning his future.
One fan simply tweeted: “Sack Rodgers”.
“Rodgers 1st to get the sack this year,” said another.

While another fan put blame on the board over a lack of signings, saying: “There has to be protests against the board now.
“This is Brendan Rodgers FIFTH transfer window and we’re playing a must win game with just TWO of his signings starting.
“That’s an absolute disgrace, totally unacceptable.”
Another vented their frustrations, saying: "Why do every time Celtic get in a position of power, the board get complacent and look what happens.
"Granted Europe league is our level. But f*** me to not strengthen that squad is criminal. Defence has been needing strengthened at that level for years. Yet here we are".
One supporter said: “Don’t tweet again unless it’s announcing the boards resignation please”.
Prior to kick-off, former Celtic star John Collins insisted progressing in the Champions League was more important than any Scottish Premiership game.
“They rested key players for tonight because it means so much," he said.

"You can afford to lose points in the league and catch up, but you can't afford to lose tonight's game or it's all over for the season.
"The big moan up here among Celtic fans is that they haven't invested enough and signed enough players in the summer.
"I know Brendan's been interested in a few, but it's not as easy getting players in because they don't have huge transfer funds and don't have the huge television money like the English clubs.
"So when they go looking for players, the price is up. A few years ago, you could get the Dedryck Boyatas for £1.5m, but that's not the case now.
"I think when they are going for players, they are being asked for more money because the clubs selling to Celtic know they are making big money when they sell them on."
