Rangers Supporters attacked in Maribor

Don’t believe the press. The Russians are very fond of Scots.. huge links between the countries from centuries ago, that we are never taught or told about. My mate is married to a Russian girl and always treated with respect and friendliness when there. Rangers will be warmly welcomed in the good sense.
And then you've got football hooligans. . . . . .

The two guys down the bottom of the picture talking to the Robocop looked like the guys who were getting interviewed earlier by Raman guy in the blue Rangers supporter and his mate in the grey Maribor supporter both friends.
Not them, we’d headed off to meet up with the Slovenian guys other half and then came back for the game. Missed the March and the bother, didn’t know anything about it until we got to the ground and a few lads mentioned it

No it wasn’t these guys are older at a guess over 50 that’s how they got it no one else was about.

Yeah I used to travel with them and have the guy who runs the bus on Facebook. Was 4 of them there and they are older bears couple of ex members were there as well noticed them in videos.

Saw you saying on twitter as well what’s being reported is wrong hardly a surprise.

What is it with people on here who want a response within hours ? FFS the team aren't even back from Slovenia yet and you're already crying about the club not responding ?

Give them some time ffs, they probably want to meet with the SLO (who is also probably only flying back today) and police before making a statement.
In follow follow land people expect statements before events have even took place.
Total bs from the two of you. Where's our statements from ANY of the recent events. Please tell me what has been said about Rangers fans being attacked oustide Ibrox weeks ago while the press tried to blame us? Where's the refutal regarding the lies about the fanzone the other week?
I'll tell you shall I? There's SFA. There never is. That's the point. So stop talking absolute p!sh. Doesn't make you staunch, just another apologist.

The club were asked for comment and gave nada as usual. And the media are free to write whatever they want unchallenged. Every other professional club on the planet seems to be able to provide statements at short notice when required and stick up for their supporters. Certainly without fail, you'll see a Celtic spokesman all over any negative press for them, bigging up their mob. Go look up any of their recent troubles and I'll guarantee that their PR have no trouble making comment, at every single opportunity they are given.

Is it too much to ask that we are given the same consideration and respect?

My point still stands.

No need to get so upset about it. I just think you need to calm the %^*& down before crying about once again another statement.

I'm sure that if the SLO and police are back and the club talks about it with them we'll hear from them.

If nothing is said by tomorrow from the club then you'll obviously agree the poster is correct in his point.

3 Times we have been in Maribor, and 3 times they have attempted to attack us. It's what they do. First time they came into the square and were chased back, second time we got hails of bottles, and this time it looks as though we got both combined. They do it to everyone, and are light years behind us off the field.

How does it? Go find me any comment from Rangers sticking up for us in the past few years then come back and talk to me. Good luck btw.
My original comment was nothing about that. I said on follow follow land people want statements before incidents happen. Slightly tongue in cheek. You seemed to get pretty angry and just assume the rest.

My son and I were in Maribor yesterday, we sat on the square for a few hours enjoying the beers and chat. There were many Maribor fans with kids, a few of our bears gave them scarves, high fives and hand shakes. We were in the home end and didn't join the enforced march to the ground. We returned to the square after the game and carried on the fun. We had a great time, met some really pleasant people and thoroughly enjoyed the day, what a result.

So 'people on FF' then, not me, even though you're clearly responding to what I said. Just a sweeping statement without engaging me directly. Snideness disguised as 'tongue in cheek'. Ok I think I get it now.

Ah well, there's not many things that make me angry, but innocent Rangers fans getting attacked then demonised by the media while the club turn a blind eye is certainly one of them. You obviously take the opposite view.Just another excuse to have a dig at FF then right?

How does it? Go find me any comment from Rangers sticking up for us in the past few years then come back and talk to me. Good luck btw.

Its sickening the way the club allows anyone and everyone to attack us. I dont understand it unless its cowardice. What else could it be?

BBC just published their longest Rangers report in ages...

Six Rangers fans were arrested amid violent clashes with police before the club's Europa League qualifier in Slovenia.

Four supporters were also fined after the trouble in the build-up to the game against Maribor.

Local police said three Slovenian nationals were apprehended after the match, which ended 0-0.

Officers also confirmed a female Rangers supporter required hospital treatment for inhaling tear gas.

The first flashpoint occurred about 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT) at two squares in the city.

According to a police spokesman, "firm intervention" was required in one location to prevent a brawl among rival fans.

Footage posted online appears to show baton-wielding officers charging into crowds of fans outside bars.

Two Rangers supporters were later fined for "provoking fights with home supporters".

Police said a third Scot was fined as officers started to escort fans to the Ljudski vrt Stadium.

The supporter was accused of failing to stay within the cordon and insulting an officer.

Tear gas
The main flashpoint occurred a short time later.

A police spokesman said: "During the escort, at the Mladinska ulica street, six foreign (five Scottish and one Austrian citizen) citizens suddenly started to attack police officers with punches and different objects.

"The police officers subdued, arrested and detained them."

Criminal complaints will now be filed at the prosecutor's office against the four Scots and the Austrian.

It will be up to prosecutors to decide whether the accused will have to return to Slovenia to face legal proceedings.

During the trouble another Scot, who had a punch blocked by a police officer, was fined.

Two of the Rangers fans who were arrested were also fined, bringing the total number hit with a financial penalties to six.

Police said the travelling supporters were released at 06:00 on Friday.

Separately, a female Rangers fan was taken to the University Medical Centre in Maribor where she was treated for the effects of exposure to tear gas which had been fired to quell the trouble.

The woman was later released.

'Severe intoxication'
At the stadium, a Rangers supporter was detained for allegedly provoking a fight and ignoring police orders.

A police spokesman said: "The detention was later terminated, since he was taken to the University Medical Centre Maribor due to health problems and severe intoxication."

The final Scottish fan to be held was fined for failing to drop a bottle he was using to start a fight.

Three Maribor supporters were also in trouble on a night when their team were knocked out of Europe.

A 28-year-old man received the local equivalent of a football banning order for setting alight a "foreign flag" in the stadium.

Police said a 21-year-old was also hit with a payment order for breaching the terms of his previous ban from sporting events.

And a 26-year-old man who threw a bottle and damaged a bus carrying Rangers fans to the airport after the match will now face a criminal complaint.

In a separate incident, a probe is ongoing after a laser light was shone at the police helicopter, blinding the pilot and jeopardising the crew.

Rangers won the tie 3-1 on aggregate and will now join Celtic in the competition's play-off round.

I doubt that the club won't say anything until UEFA submit their reports. If UEFA sanction the club, then there will be a comment, however if the security delegates report makes no mention of anything which occurred outside, then I doubt very much that the club will reignite the discussion in my humble opinion.

The match report from last night was 400 words. This report about our fans terrorising the riot police was 530.

For comparison, Celtic's match report from the other day was 680 words.

They can't hide their contempt.

YOu can tell whoever wrote that had his pc on one hand and his cock in another

Who cares what that shower of paedo protectors thinks.

80% of the report on Rangers supporters being attacked. defending themselves and being tear gassed.
20% of report on Maribor fans throwing bottles, setting a fire in the stadium and laser lighting a helicopter.

Seems somewhat unbalanced. ;)

Bagwash should be kicked in the bslls. They somehow manage to find a slovenian journo to interview and get his bit in about throwing bottles. Why don't they go that we bit further and do a report on the thuggish behaviour of foreign gestapo and their treatment to ordinary fans

Club 1872 statement

Following receipt of a number of eye witness reports from supporters who travelled to Maribor yesterday, Club 1872 is extremely concerned by the way our fans were treated by the local police. The policing was heavy handed and batons and tear gas were used indiscriminately against our supporters, who had mixed with locals in the main square throughout the day in a friendly and positive manner. Some older and younger supporters were caught up in this police action which was unnecessary and irresponsible.

The vast majority of our supporters showed admirable restraint under very difficult circumstances and conducted themselves positively in support of our team despite this police provocation.

We are awaiting a date for a meeting with Police Scotland to discuss recent and historic policing at home games but we will also be speaking to Rangers about how we can work together to try to improve supporter safety when travelling in Europe
.

I don't know why. Think most of us would love to know.

The board have been excellent lately on many levels, but this is one issue that's letting them down.
I don't think its cowardice. They've had plenty problems to sort out and have been succesfully navigating their way through multiple minefields slowly but surely and they deserve our thanks and praise for that.

Maybe this just wasn't a priority until now. Maybe they've taken a decision to not get involved for fear of legal implications. Maybe they haven't put the infrastuture/personnel in place to deal with these incidents effectively. Maybe they're getting bad advice.

Whatever it is, I'm just appealing to them now to see the damage this silence is creating and perpetuating and to start to put it right. It's in all our intrests including theirs surely? We can't keep going on like this. Imagine how bad it's going to get if we put in a proper challenge this year? We'll be under seige.

Should this not be a role for the club? I would imagine that the club will be meeting with the Police. In fairness, the club are being quiet about this.

The Glaswegian ICF flag was stolen? Whats the story there, pinched from the main square or taken by force?

From what I heard (someone will confirm) the person got attacked close to the square when he was himself. Only had heard of a couple getting lifted and they were told they were getting released after the game no idea if they did but one of their mates were close to us in the ground said they were told they were getting released after the game.

The lack of comment from Rangers in defending our supporters leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Our executives are not fit to represent our football club.

My mate is in monklands flew back with me this morning straight to a+e Has a fractured skull in a few different places black eyes etc and isn’t able to go on holiday tomorrow with his Mrs and is maybe going to need surgery on his head.

Something has to be fucking done. Talking of bears arrested and acting up no mention of him lying on the deck getting his head caved in off these robocop cunts.

After Pamplona (osasuna game) a certain journalist said the Rangers support deserved the attack from the spanish police which started outside the ground and continued inside throughout the match. That journalist is now a f*cking employee of our club. The chances of the fans in maribor being defended by people of that ilk are zero unfortunately.

He should never have been allowed to set foot in Ibrox never mind work there.

Just heard the report in BBC Shortbread news and you could almost feel the glee
6 fans attested and 2 fined for fighting and attacking the local polis, it was of course balanced , well they are the bastion of fair, balanced and objectionable reporting , by saying that videos on social media "appear" to show the polis attacking fans with batons, the club need to come out and support the fans and nip this shit in the bud, any mention of the scum being involved in any trouble in Athens !
