Celtic say they are "astonished" that club ambassador Tom Boyd is being investigated by the compliance officer for his comments about referee John Beaton.

"We have had absolutely no contact from the SFA in relation to this matter and, given the context and circumstances in which the comments were made, would be astonished if the matter were to be progressed," a statement said.

"If it is, then we will respond robustly."

And the scary bit is this isn't a game they lost. If they're willing to talk this way when it's a cup tie and they go through, imagine the aftermath if they lose a game to what they deem a "poor decision".

I would expect bias - not a problem. But, after what happened to Beaton at the turn of the year, he was totally out of order.

Under SFA Rules, clubs are responsible for their media output, which includes not being allowed to criticise match officials.

It is the club who are punished, not Boyd.

If the CO bint cites them and they are found guilty, punishment will likely be a fine of about £1,000.

Expect Spaghetti Bolingoli will be transfer listed to cover it.:))
 
Will be interesting to hear what Keevins has to say about it on Clyde tonight- bearing in mind he maintained they were “treated differently” on the radio years ago... :rolleyes:

It’s always nice to see Celtic get punished but there should be a different standard for club media vs club content distributed on public media. Boyd obviously took it way too far but it’s normal for commentators to be critical of refereeing decisions during a game. If they’re drawing a distinction here because Boyd is employed by Celtic FC as an ambassador, then fine, but I’d hate to see us go down a path where fan tv can’t call out refs.
