His birth name was John but like a lot of guys called John in the old days, they got called Ian.82 years old.
Always enjoyed Saint & Greavsie
Edit, Apologies for the spelling mistake in his name.
One of those faces you always remember from growing up and developing your love of the game, watching Saint and Greavsie. Sad news.
It happens a lot in the Hebrides, John/Ian GaelicHis birth name was John but like a lot of guys called John in the old days, they got called Ian.
Wonderful broadcaster, too young to remember him playing but was a staple diet of the 80s to play for my boys club team and go home and watch Saints and Greavsie.
The version of that I heard said it was a poster saying "What will we do when Christ comes back?" and scribbled underneath was " Move St John to inside right"Very sad news, great player and good broadcaster. A legend playing for Liverpool, scoring the winning goal in their first ever FA Cup win against Leeds.
I remember the story of the religious poster display in Liverpool “Christ Saves” and below was written but St. John scores from the rebound.
That's a pity. He always struck me as a thoroughly decent bloke.
