Good grief, this post makes me feel old
He only came via Spurs as Jim McLean wouldn’t sell to us.I mind waking up that morning and switching on the tv before i went to work. The uk sports headline was that we had signed the spurs captain. Just like that, right out the blue. No one was even really surprised, things like that happened regularly. Them were the days.
Horrible man who shat it from taking the Rangers jobHe only came via Spurs as Jim McLean wouldn’t sell to us.
I think he may have made his Spurs debut against us in the Paul Miller testimonial in August 1986.He only came via Spurs as Jim McLean wouldn’t sell to us.
I don’t think he played that day.I think he may have made his Spurs debut against us in the Paul Miller testimonial in August 1986.
The captain, if you're my age.
He didn’t, to be fair I was too busy with the mayhem all around me to actually watch the game!I don’t think he played that day.
I don't think Gough would have came to Gers when he did if it wasn't for Walter. It looked like he moved to Spurs for a year - became their captain - then moved back up to Scotland for us all because Jim McLean would not sell him to us.Always saw it as a major coup we got RG despite having Terry Butcher .
As above Goughie epitomised everything. a Centre Half should be & wasn't to shabby at RB either.
A Great reader of the Game there hasn't been a Rangers or Scotland captain at centre half since who even comes close to Goughie .
It was Souness who signed him.I don't think Gough would have came to Gers when he did if it wasn't for Walter. It looked like he moved to Spurs for a year - became their captain - then moved back up to Scotland for us all because Jim McLean would not sell him to us.
Was it not cause he asked to sign Narey and Heggerty and the board said no cause they kicked with the other foot?Horrible man who shat it from taking the Rangers job
Walter was assistant at Dundee United where Richard was a player - now he was assistant at Gers and wanted him to join him - Walter was main factor I'd say - they were close. It was Souness who signed him.
I'd have spontaneously combusted with motivation if I heard him say this in the tunnel!“You all know what’s required”
Just seemed to operate on a different level to other players.
Totally agree. My favourite Rangers captain. What a man, what a player.
