Celtic face threat of multimillion pound compensation claim(The Times)

Is that saying that the Daily Record asking the question - and presumably bringing it to Cairney’s solicitor’s attention - led to the sentence being reduced?

Thats what ive been wondering, how cairnys defence obtained this info so easily?

“After the trial I was interviewed by the Daily Record. The first question they asked was if I had any previous convictions. I said right away that I did and disclosed them to the Record.

What kind of people ask this sort of question straight after a trial of this nature

Victim of Celtic Boys' Club sex beast dies after being 'crushed' by court blow.

A man who bravely gave evidence against Celtic Boys’ Club beast Frank Cairney only to see his testimony quashed on appeal has tragically died.

And the Daily Record can reveal that it was a prosecution blunder that led to evil paedophile Cairney getting a year off his four-year sentence.

We are not naming the man at the request of his family.

He is thought to have suffered a heart attack at his home after facing the anguish of seeing his evidence against Cairney quashed by the appeal court. He died, aged 60, less than two weeks after the appeal court judgment.

His daughter said: “Cairney stole my dad’s childhood, stole my dad’s innocence and sentenced him to a lifetime of silence.

“Dad had said he would fight this decision but the decision had left him crushed.”

The Daily Record can reveal the Crown failed to ask the man about his previous convictions in England, going back to 1980. Cairney’s defence team seized on the fact the convictions had not been revealed to the jury, leading to the appeal that saw his sentence reduced.

The Crown Office has told the Record it is “deeply regrettable” one of Cairney's convictions has been quashed and it is “reviewing its practices”.

It means Cairney, 84, could be freed as early as August.

Before he died, the man told the Record: “It is an outrage. I did the right thing by coming forward and going through the ordeal of court.

“The Crown never even asked me about convictions in England. If they had, I would have told them.”

The former Celtic Boys’ Club player spent more than two-and-a-half hours in the witness box at Hamilton Sheriff Court last year.

Cairney was jailed for four years but that has now been reduced to three years. Eight men – who did not know each other – gave powerful testimony of the predatory sexual abuse carried out by Cairney from 1965 to 1986.

The man thought some kind of justice had finally be done but was left “shattered” by his experience. He said: “There is no justice. This makes me ashamed to be Scottish.

“After the trial I was interviewed by the Daily Record. The first question they asked was if I had any previous convictions. I said right away that I did and disclosed them to the Record.

“If the Crown had asked me this ahead of the trial I would have told them right away.

“I was abused in 1974 and after all these years I don’t know what to do or who to turn to. I’m convinced that if the jury had been told of my previous convictions, my evidence, which was 100 per cent truth, would have been accepted by the jury.

“It was extremely difficult to see Cairney’s face in court – one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life.”

Cairney’s appeal hinged on the man’s convictions in England for dishonesty.

He said: “The reason I was in London was because I couldn’t get out of Glasgow quick enough after what Cairney did to me. The convictions were as a result of my state of mind. I had been sexually abused as a child.”

Lord Justice General Lord Carloway, Lord Drummond Young and Lord Turnbull overturned Cairney’s conviction on the specific charge three weeks ago. Eight convictions still stand against him.

The appeal court judges’ ruling stated: “The Crown had not accessed the Police National Computer, to which the police had access and which recorded all UK convictions. The Crown could readily have checked the PNC, which regularly provided data on previous convictions for use in prosecutions.

“The Crown ought to have disclosed the convictions...

“There was a duty on the Crown to disclose the criminal history of complainers if known, but no routine check was carried out to find criminal records in jurisdictions other than Scotland.”

In May, the Record revealed that Celtic FC investigated and cleared Celtic Boys’ Club bosses of any wrongdoing in the 80s.

This is at odds with Celtic FC’s contention that the two were entirely separate entities.

Jim Torbett, 71, the founder of the boys’ club, was jailed for two years in 1998 and for six years last November for a string of sex abuse against children.

Another predatory paedophile Jim McCafferty, 73, another CBC coach and Celtic FC kitman, was jailed for six years and nine months in May.

Gerald King, 66, a former CBC chairman, was convicted of abusing four boys and one girl at a school in Glasgow but avoided a jail term.

More blood on the badge of those animal bastards.

I hope they are proud of themselves, Celtic fc, Scottish Gov, the press, police, sfa, the public. They can all explain to their own families that they played their part.

Your testimony was not in vain, and we will not relent until justice is delivered. Rest easy now, we will not give up

It might not sound like much... but if you are on Twitter, get that on Twitter and tag all above.

Hope Humza becomes more guilt ridden by the day at his part in these crimes and injustices.

Terrible news for that survivor and his family, what an injustice,it’s so sad and days like today should be why we are doing what we can to help.

there is a light at times and it does shine in our direction to see from the dark, and it will again.

this was never going to be easy to tackle but there is hope out there, what’s the point carrying on if we can’t help and aid others from folk that suppress the madness of sexual exploitation of kids at them.

Another life taken thanks to our pathetic justice system.

If I'm not mistaken, Cairney's sentence was reduced to due a technicality surrounding the victim's criminal record.

Did it ever occur to them that the criminal record is a direct result of the trauma he suffered as a boy at the hands of these animals?

Still the SNP body swerve the case at all costs.

That would be something but Humza doesnt actually care. Im not on twitter my friend, Ive been encouraged to start a blog as well. Ive been sickened by the RC culture of abuse for many a year, in fact over 20yrs since I found out through the bravery of a friend. Totally stomach churning and I honestly dont know how I would cope with maintaining a twitter account, this subject gives me the rage and im not sure thats always helpful. I dont know how folks like the Gray family manage to keep going on twitter, they have far more guts in them than me thats for sure and I prob ought to start twitter even if its just to show support. Meantime I will keep pressing for answers through my joke of an MP.

That is so sad, the knowledge that he fought for justice and came forward and the trauma and guilt of the sexual assaults.
Then the miserably low sentence (which is a travesty of justice) that Cairney got and the humiliation of it getting reduced because he had some convictions that happened in England which was probably a result of the assaults.
What kind of warped world is this that is present in Scotland that can make a victim endure so much, and more than the filthy perpetrator, the people that did this to this man should hold their heads in shame, may they burn in hell.

If anyone is in any doubt about this Rhabid Rag, there it is. I have always thought someone, over the 40 years this disgusting pedo ring has been in existence, high up in this rag has been diverting, lying and covering up major news linked to the Bheasts in the East.
"Never forget what this rag stands for."

The death of the victim is horrible

Family must be tortured by the trauma their Father / Husband was subjected to by the beast Cairney

I hope the old paedo bastard dies before getting out of jail

When I was reading that article last night, there was an article with Humza and his smiling face right next to it. I don’t know how that horrible individual can sleep at night. An absolute disgrace of a human being. He should hang his head in shame. He has not assisted any victim or family in anyway whatsoever.

This is why we need to be ready to bombard every outlet available to us to show up this clown for what he is. Once this documentary airs we need to shout for this inquiry through every Avenue open to us.

This clown couldn't care less about the victims. As far as I can see child rape is a price worth paying for votes to the SNP. Why won't the so called justice minister engage with the victims and their families? I honestly can't think of any justifiable reason to be shunning these folk. It really is unbelievable that the only ones trying to help these poor souls are Rangers supporters, you would think Celtic supporters would be screaming from the rooftops for justice. We can't let the victims down we must keep fighting for justice for Celtics victims. I would urge everyone to email their MP, MSP and councillor as well as both the justice and First ministers. Don't let these lowlifes off the hook.

We need to push for the remit to be extended to churches and schools too in the Scottish child abuse enquiry. Other countries unlike the sham drawn up by snp have inquiries with scope that is far more reaching, way beyond institutional care homes and migration abuse. Put it to your MP along with a request for a full independant public enquiry for all of scottish football, not a stupid half ersed review lead by Martin Henry

And dont forget to tell your MPs they can keep their £10,000 per head hush money

Celtic FC will face a multimillion pound compensation claim “within months” unless it accepts responsibility for the paedophiles who preyed on young players, a senior lawyer has said.

This is the bit that gets me. Irrespective of whatever way you put it, the directors and management at Celtic Football Club knew exactly what was going on and for them to say otherwise, is quite simply a downright lie.

There is no will about it.

Get Celtic Football Club convicted of protecting and harbouring Paedophiles.

In any normal society, the actions of directors and management in such cases as we have at said club, would have lead to them getting convicted. As they are party to the Child Sexual Abuse that has gone on at Celtic Football Club over the last 5 decades.

Why is it, that in Scotland Paedophilia is seen as the norm in certainly quarters and by that, I don't mean in a religious sense. I mean at the very top of our legal system.

Goodness the evidence is there for all to see.

Why the reluctancy from our Government, Legal Eagles and most importantly of all, the SFA as to bring changes against Celtic Football Club.

Why is Paedophilia not being respected in the way it should.....................

We have challenged the authorities on this from every angle. What I’ve learnt is there is a certain level of corruption within the SNP.
Without going into detail again, we have found that the SNP will do nothing that will jeopardise the Republican vote.
Apart from one SNP MSP that we have contacted in the past, the rest have no intention of raising a motion for a full independent inquiry.
Especially Humza. The photographic proof from his Twitter account proves where his loyalties lie.
This will not stop us applying pressure in the future though. I have said before, we are not just up against a corrupt government. We are up against the cult of Catholicism. They will do anything to cover their tracks.
Our aim is to uncover them. And we will continue the fight to do so no matter what we come up against.

Sorry, but this republican vote just doesn't wash with me anymore.
Minority in our country, and should easily be voted out by the majority of our proud country.
Last weeks vote proved that it is well more than a republican vote that put the cretins back in power of Scotland.
Time this republican vote pish was stopped.

Thanks for you reply BlueNose94.

And to you and the main contributors on this thread, your hard work has to been applauded.

Well done one and all.

That’s your opinion and I respect it. I can only go from experience in contacting SNP members and by their replies on this issue.

This is only my third response on this thread, I hate the scum who did this over the years.
The scum of the SNP you have contacted have they said they are willing to go against party policy and bring this to a head?
As I said, in this small minded country we have far to many brainwashed people who will not do what is the right thing, and that includes Tories, Labour and other members of the toy parliament in Edinburgh who will not stand up against anything.

If you see my previous post we have had one positive reply from an SNP member. Some have not responded and one accused a certain member behind the scenes of being a bigot. That response came when there was no mention from us about religion.

In this small minded country we have tried with no success via tactical voting to get rid of SNP. IMO the young voters want another referenDUMB.
So much for a once in a lifetime vote in 2014.
Last time I looked I was still alive.
Anyway. I digress.
As previously stated on here, the 'ring' may reach way higher than just Separate Entity.
SFA. Magistrates. Police. Politicians etc.
A true cabal.
When the dam eventually breaks they will ALL be held accountable

Great stuff BN94.

Now that the Tories have a massive majority, would this not be a good time to write to Boris? This scandal would be a great stick to beat the SNP with.

We have wrote to Westminster MPs in the past and received the devolved government reply. One conservative MP told me they can have an opinion but can’t act professionally.
I wouldn’t accept that and kept pushing. This MP then decided to assist in getting replies from the so called Scottish government.
These were standard replies but I’ll give him his due, he stuck by his word.
Hopefully when this documentary is aired it will show the links between the beasts at Celtic and Barry Bennell. This we hope will leave Westminster no choice but to act. I think you’ll agree that a full independent inquiry under the direction of Westminster would be preferred as personally I trust nobody in the Scottish government to appoint the correct person to head an inquiry.

The Catholic vote in Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire is crucial to the SNP. It is now their core base in that part of the country.. And as the other poster mentioned, the SNP will do nothing to alienate them. Absolutely nothing.

This is absolutely correct - I think people are too quick to underestimate the power of that block vote. Yes, it's a relatively small percentage of the overall population, but the Protestant vote is spread out across all of the major parties (shamefully including the SNP). People suggest Humza is protecting the club that he loves - while this is true, the reality is that it's a far bigger cover-up that he's involved in. This is about his party protecting that block vote, because they know that to achieve their raison d'etre they will need to have that block vote fully on board. The SNP is a disgusting and very, very dangerous political party - shame on any Protestant who votes for them.

Understand all that BN94 and well done to you all. I am a great believer in the planting of seeds, the PM probably isn't aware of this disgusting cover up, or indeed the cover up of the cover up. A wee heads up to him as a FYI might help.

You would like to think if Westminster believed powers devolved to the scottish government were not being implemented correctly they would remove them or at the very least make sure they were.
