Daily Record: Celtic FC cleared Boys' Club bosses over 'scurrilous' abuse claims in 1986

When this all came out in the 80’s, it was very much linked to the club although media coverage was again surprisingly scarce for such a massive scandal.

How they can say thirty odd years later they are a separate entity is preposterous unless they are going down the road that their club ‘died’ at some point in between. Would be the ultimate irony for these moon-howling nut jobs.
 
I cannot get my head around the parents. My brother went to see a specialist doctor, who touched him inappropriately. My dad was fuming, and went to the police. There were other incidents and the doctor was struck off.
Think they fit meaning of the name ZOMBIES to a T.

I suspect it was as much to do with some or all the directors being involved in paedophilia as it was protecting the name of the club
 
This has got to stick, I know the c*nts are teflon in the Scottish press but the overwhelming amount of evidence means "justice" for the families is around the corner.

Is it not a major concern that the families are pinning their hopes on a single journalist to do the worlds easiest join the dots puzzle. Peter Smith seems to be the only other journalist in Scotland to join Mark Daly on calling out the biggest scandal in Scottish football history which is shocking.

But what I can't get my head around is the rhebel here. They are in the pay of the filth, so I can't get my head round this piece at all.

Mark Daly flew to America in order to uncover Torbett. In this case you are wrong.

They had no rights to investigate it , it’s a police matter . And it’s exactly what you would do to sweep under the carpet .

He breaks cover then all hell will let loose.
Although its easy for me to say as never been in thatbposition and i fully appreciate why he wouldnt want to. Probably spent years trying to block out what happened.
 
Anyone know why I can't comment on the DR Facebook post about this? Can see comments but can't add any, can they ban you? Don't ever really remember writing anything on it before.

I keep hearing about these non-disclosure documents, do you think PL has attempted a gagging order or threatened some legal lawsuit to try and stop these seeing the light of day?
Why after so many days and more revelations has this not now been printed?

Alan Brazil breaking cover should have been more than enough to have things investigated, it wasn't.
 
A full blown paedophile ring was on the premises but despite in depth interviews they still managed to miss it.

Not just miss it..... there was absolutely nothing to see.....a clean bill of health,case closed.

Regardless, why were board members of celtic football club getting involved in such a serious matter concerning an organisation that had nothing to do with them ?

In reference to the Celtic View article.

The article states that Celtic did not receive one single complaint. (from someone with a Celtic connection).

Celtic were responding to rumours inspired by a former CBC chairman.

Not one single complaint ?

From someone with a Celtic connection ? Does that mean complaints from people with no Celtic connection ?

Rumours ? What rumours ? Do they mean more than just a rumour inspired by a former chairman of CBC ? Who else spread rumours ?

This isn't an investigation reported in on a public forum. It's a cover up.

Not really the record have also been at the forefront with the biggest bits of evidence. This is the major one and also the McCafferty scoop. They won’t all let everything go at once.

When they look at this it’s probably the easiest story to gather evidence for. It’s not called the open secret for nothing. The Celtic view is in the archives of libraries so not hard to find what the record found.

I would guess that it is still going on a celtc park, and that's why they continue to try and distance themselves and hope it "gets buried once and for all"
These people gravitate towards each other, and this club would appear to be the perfect sanctuary for these beasts. Them and their church have their flock petrified to speak against them, it has only been the really brave that have spoken out. Hopefully this will give others the courage to speak out and get the help they need to live a life.
 
In 1996, former Celtic Boys Club player Alan Brazil stated that when he was 13 years old he had been sexually abused by the club manager, Jim Torbett. The allegations were heard at the Glasgow Sheriff Courtin 1998, where Torbett was found guilty of shameless and indecent conduct with three juvenile players between October 1967 and March 1974.[5] Torbett was given a prison sentence of 30 months.[6] There have since been further allegations about Torbett; in May 2017 he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court having been charged with six offences;[7] in April 2018, Torbett appeared at the High Court in Glasgow where he faced 12 historical sexual abuse charges dating from January 1970 to August 1994; a June 2018 trial date was set.[8] On 5 November 2018 Torbett was found guilty of five counts of sexually abusing children and sentenced to six years in prison.[9]

Also in April 2017, Gerald King, a former chairman of Celtic Boys Club, was charged by police with non-recent sexual offences.[10] King, 66, went on trial on 26 November 2018 at Glasgow Sheriff Court where he was accused of lewd and libidinous practices towards five boys and two girls while he was a Glasgow teacher, between August 1983 and June 1989; he was also charged with taking or permitting to be taken indecent images of children between January 1987 and December 1988 at Barrowfield.[11] On 5 December 2018, King was convicted of five charges of using lewd and libidinous practises towards five victims between August 1984 and April 1989, and found guilty of taking indecent pictures of children in February 1987.[12] On 7 January 2019 King was given a three-year probation order, ordered to do community service and put on the sex offenders register for five years.[13]

In April 2017, Frank Cairney, a former Celtic Boys Club coach and manager (who, in November 1998, had been acquitted of charges of shameless indecency towards young football players due to lack of evidence),[14] was charged in connection with six alleged historical sexual offences.[15] He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on 11 May 2018, facing ten charges of alleged abuse between 1965 and 1986, including indecent assault, gross indecency and lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour. After Cairney's defence team requested a delay to investigate witness statements,[16]the trial at Hamilton began in early December 2018 with Cairney, 82, denying all ten charges.[17] On 14 December, Cairney was found guilty of nine charges of sexually abusing young footballers, placed on the sex offenders register and was granted bail before being sentenced.[18] On 7 February 2019, Cairney was jailed for four years.[19]
In a trial in May 2019 at Edinburgh High Court, Jim McCafferty was jailed for six years and nine months after pleading guilty to 11 charges of abusing teenagers between 1972 and 1996. The victims abused by McCafferty were at Celtic Boys Club, Celtic's youth team, and youth teams he ran in North Lanarkshire.[20]
 
Separate entity?
Sickening story and even more so that they can’t apologise and accept responsibility.
Nobody is saying it’s the current staff but ffs man up and apologise for ruining lifes then covering up to protect a reputation and in turn allowing more kids to be abused

I read a comment on twitter earlier where a denier claimed that there were hundreds of Celtic Boys Clubs around the world and should the club be held responsible for everything they have done.
I’m not on twitter so couldn’t respond but if this is true have they all been told to change their name to St Patrick’s or is it just one boys club on particular?

sellik are obviously better at investigating that kind of thing than the polis they says nothing happened so everybody should move on and leave it at that.... :) incredible the polis never involved themselves I still suspect those caught are the tip of the iceberg and know a lot more about people in higher places than them I can't think of another reason why no one acted when infos been out in the public for 30 odd yr
 
On top of this recent Daily Record piece, I can't help wondering why there isn't an investigation into the money paid to Torbett etc through the "trophy Centre." Surely the amount of cash going through there is a red light the police should be following. If not the footballing authorities should be asking how other clubs finances were affected by the obvious scam, that saw gate money, which should have been evenly shared, pilfered by this disgusting club?

He's buried them before - including Bawface.

He then tracked Torbett all to way to the US and confronted him and his boyfriend as they left a store.

He also went straight to the belly of the beast on another issue when he confronted Dermott Desmond right outside Parkhead, when he was asked " Are you a Rangers supporter?"

Daly's work has played a major part in bringing Celtic FC to it's knees.

What more do you want him to do?
 
Surely this is huge in the grand scheme of things. They have effectively known what went on and "cleared" them of wrongdoing, that in black and white is a cover up.

There also must be a fair number of survivors who have not come forward and probably have no intention of doing so. Moved on with their lives.

Joining the dots, Glasgow cup/Barry Bennell/fake tounaments/boys being driven all over the country....it's bigger than anyone expected.
