Hopefully the club will be in contact and get to the bottom of it. Would be good to know what area he sat in and speak to some supporters round that area to get some witness statements of what actually happened.

Sad to read this story earlier, unfortunately we still have elements of our support who can’t or won’t change their behaviour which will always lead to incidents like this.

The story sounds a bit weird to me tbh. We do have our fair share of bellends so I completely get that he could hear a comment or something. But people just being outright and openly racist to somebody’s face in front of other people in 2 locations seems a bit too far.

Then again, I took the kids and ended up with a pair of absolute throbbers next to us. Maybe there was more of an arsehole element there, who knows.
Nothing worse I take the wee man and hope there's not going to be a.steaming prick beside us,

Can tell the moronic types that 'dont believe him' an absolute mile off. They'll be the same ones wondering why calling him Sakala is racist.

There is a horrible element that follow us, I've heard it and I'll be surprised if there is a single soul on here who has followed Rangers home and away for years that hasn't heard it.

The sooner we weed them out the better.

We have a real scum element of fans who are in the dark ages so much that it’s depressing.

Particularly midweek games
Midweek Cup games bring out the lowlife unfortunately.
This kind of neanderthal behaviour is certainly not confined to Rangers. Every club has them.
The doormen at the Wee Rangers Club if they were aware of anything should have dealt with it immediately. I've no doubt that would have been the case if it had happened in the Louden. In fact the clowns responsible would have been ragdolled by Rangers punters there before the bouncers got to them.

Hopefully the guy is contacted by the club and given a special VIP invite.
Racist scum should hopefully one day never be welcome at at stadium in the country.

Like a lot of these situations, i don't know how people interpret things. Could be racist or could be slagging accents. I am not taking sides coz i wasn't there. Phuckin hate racism

Hope the morons responsible get caught and banned. It’s not only a terrible thing for the man and embarrassing for us as a support who have worked hard to have an upstanding reputation, but also downplays all the hard work that our incredibly diverse team does on the pitch.

Another racial claim being made against our fans

A freelance sport producer from East Lothian says he was racially abused on two occasions over the space of a few hours after attending a Rangers football game.

Bobby Nwanze, 32, said that he was forced to leave a Rangers Scottish Cup match vs Stirling Albion at half time on Friday January 21, after he faced abuse from a fellow supporter in the stands.

To make matters worse, Bobby was subjected to a further bout of abuse when visiting a Rangers themed bar close to the stadium.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Bobby said that he was left in tears in the car when returning from Glasgow, and that the incident had put him off from returning to Ibrox but that he would do so, as he did not want to empower racists.

On the abuse he received, he said: “Why I like Rangers is that the team is relatable to me. In the past the squad was not overly diverse but when you look at the team now that has completely changed. The captain Tavernier is black as is Bassey, Balogun, Aribo, Morelos, Sakala, Bacuna and Kamara. So for me I identify with them.

“To be honest, I am often apprehensive about going to live games due to the elements of racism that can occur there. But my friend Abie, John and I decided to go through for the Scottish Cup tie as we thought it would be a nice family friendly atmosphere with it being the fourth round of the cup.

“Around 25 minutes into the game, I’m doing my usual and talking football with fans around me, having a good time. But then I see an older man waving his arms at me, he looks at me and says ‘I can’t understand a word you are saying, are you even speaking English?’

“I turned to my friends and asked if he had just said what I thought he had. After that I just felt sick and my mood completely dropped. My friends said to try to ignore him but I could not.

“So we left to go to a Rangers bar, I think it was called the Wee Rangers, and when we walked in it was as if everyone had stopped to stare at me walking to the bar - it was weird. We ordered some drinks and just took ourselves to a quiet corner to watch the rest of the game. That is when a middle aged man approached me.

“This gentleman would not leave me alone. He said ‘You are black, what does Fashion Sakala mean?’ My friend asked what he said and when I repeated it they were absolutely astounded. The man proceeded to keep calling me Fashion Sakala even though I asked him to leave me alone to watch the game.

“My friends then tried their best to get them to leave me alone but then the man turned with their group of 20-30 mates and started singing the Fashion Sakala song at me. Now I do not mind banter but my race is not a joke for other people’s amusement. This was being derogative.

“The guy then sat next to me again and started to touch my arms whilst saying, ‘You’re a big boy eh, you're always big.’ He continued to bother me before I was stern and said to leave me alone. It was then that the man said I shouldn’t be there.
I’ll be honest find it hard to believe . I’ve ko doubt we’ve an element of bad apples in our support but rather leave in tears , could he not contact a police officer or steward ? They would be kicked out and jailed leaving him to stay and support his team . Also surely people beside him , if front, behind , would have heard this and surely they in turn would have called this abuse out ?

Think the problem is that for most of us, including me, when someone says racism I'm instantly thinking of overtly racist terms using derogatory, foul language and wondering why other people haven't jumped in. In this case it's more passive racism, disguised as banter, but racism nonetheless, but maybe not as easily identifiable to someone who doesn't face it, especially in a crowded place with a drink in you. Sad that this still happens, but it's a societal and generational issue that requires education.

That's really sad. The guy seems a good bloke, really awful he had to go through this.

Not a massive surprise though, given some of the views you sadly read on here.

As someone who abhors racism of any kind can you highlight the views you're talking about you sadly read on here??

Not a chance it happened without people around not sorting it out by telling them to shut up or go into a busy pub and get abused while others never said a word.

I read something similar a couple of years ago somewhere but can’t remember what in.

I just hope my memory is right and callingBS on it, if wrong WTF were the folk round the guy doing ?

I'm like you, something doesn't appear quite right here. I know for a fact that if such a situation did occur where I sit there would've been any number of us telling the offender in no uncertain terms to cut it out.
If it did happen then anybody who sat and never challenged the offender need to take a good look at themselves.
Just seems to me that any negativity of any kind is forever being aimed at Rangers fans.

Surely telling a steward helps getting the racist banned from Ibrox?

That then makes it safer for everyone.

What do you expect? The guy to walk up and tell a steward that someone told him he didnt understand him? A steward is gonna do nothing and it would draw more attention to him.

If it was a direct name calling or something I might agree but both are examples of ignorant morons who probably don't even realise in their moronic heads they're doing anything wrong. That's the problem, It's the general ignorance of some folk.

My regular seat was worse than the Euro games for some reason. Some total day trippers and fannies worse than usual. Feel really bad for this guy. Hope we can sort it somehow.

Why would the guy leave early to go to a pub to watch on TV when he's paid for his ticket, likely travelled a decent way for, if nothing happened?

Why is the default of a lot of people so defensive when it comes to these things?! Some of the takes on here are insufferable tbh. The idea that he's racist for identifying with the club, in the same manner (albeit for a different reason) that lots of people on FF have said they identify with Rangers, is some of the worst reasoning I've ever seen.

‘I can’t understand a word you are saying, are you even speaking English?’

Is that classed as racist?

Spot on.

Gaslighting someone who is claiming racial abuse is a particular new low for on here, and that's saying something.

I have no reason not to believe him, but there is some of that which just reads a bit like complete BS re what the experience of either the WRC is or the apprehension to attend because of elements of racism.

I’m not sure you can just throw that shade at an entire pub personally and in attending Ibrox I can’t say regular racism is a thing TBH.
