Glenn Hoddle

There's a similar tale from the '98 World Cup when he was trying to teach a move to Beckham, Gary Neville and Shearer. Beckham couldn't grasp what Hoddle was after and failed repeatedly to execute the manoeuvre. Cue Hoddle demonstrating the pass he was after (using his "bad" foot) and stomping off the pitch in disgust at Beckham. Great, great player but zero man management skills.

Sounds like a vastly more talented John Collins.

Was he not running a soccer school in Spain with Nigel Spackman and they worked with kids released from clubs at 18-20 kind of age group, with a view to gettting a cut when they signed up for a club?

I presume from all his TV work then the school isn't running now.

I'm sure the quote from Hoddle to Beckham was that, "you're clearly not good enough for this skill" or words to that effect.

Then Beckham smacked in the freekick against Columbia and saved Hoddle's arse.
