Goodwin says the SPFL bent their own rules

Jim Goodwin has claimed the SPFL had to bend their own rules to allow his St Mirren side to face Celtic.

The Buddies boss was forced to recall kids from loan deals and draft in academy youngsters after 11 first team stars were ruled out due to Covid chaos – and pleas to have the game shelved fell on deaf ears.

Goodwin said: “It's been extremely difficult as you'd imagine. We've been here before.

"I'm not surprised as we were forced to play games last year that we didn't really want to.

"It was Groundhog Day all over - very similar to what happened last year.
"We had major dialogue back and forth with the authorities and we were explaining the situation.

"If we only have three or four positives, it's a different situation - but we had 11 positives and were still waiting for two results before the game.

"Thankfully we were able to free up a few of our players who were deemed close contacts on Tuesday.

"We had major dialogue back and forth with the authorities and we were explaining the situation.

"Nobody at St Mirren wants to cancel games willy nilly, but these are extreme circumstances.

"If we only have three or four positives, it's a different situation - but we had 11 positives and were still waiting for two results before the game.

"On Wednesday afternoon we genuinely felt we were going to have to play six or seven under-17 players.

"We asked for the game to be postponed but unfortunately the powers that be wanted the game to go ahead.

"So much so that they have bent loan rules to allow us to bring six under-18 players to bulk the squad.

"They amended the loans to allow us to bring back players from Lowland League clubs.

"They went to great lengths to get the game on. They explored every avenue, even down to those loan rules.

"The SFA and SPFL got together on the Lowland loans, but we weren't allowed to bring league ones back."
That's corrupt as %^*& just to give those c/nuts every advantage possible, thankfully karma has cost the c/nuts 2 points this time.

Bent the rules to ensure St Mirren played with poor quality players but have stopped football because they have a few injuries. Absolutely everything comes down to blatant corruption to help one club. This is at the point UEFA should be stepping in to clean up the game in the country. An absolute disgrace.

You'd like to think by sunday, we've maybe learned a lesson after a difficult game v dundee utd, the st mirren kids are knackered and possibly a few have indulged in a traditional paisley white xmas and we can turn them over by a few

Good of Jim Goodwin to provide that insight, especially after getting a good result. I wish we could drop the paranoia and appreciate that most managers and players are professional and only want the best results for their team. They might have supported another club or even played for them, it doesn't mean they are going to sabotage their own team to deliberately lose.
Yep, this was the same guy who took his team to parkhead last season and took full points, whilst we had a weekend off. How many teams done that last season?

For those saying rats can appeal. Would it not be the same deal as we have with players from out B team as they are in the lowland league …. They can go up the way just can’t go back after 5 games

This is just more proof of corruption and even more ridiculous its one of their own calling it out

Appeal what??

The SPFL bending the rules in order to benefit a certain team of puddle drinkers. How peculiar, how peculiar indeed.

I would say they are a club who are not in control of the Covid processes he even incriminates himself with his examples re last season . Utter boff .

With all that mishandling I would say they should have had to forfeit the points or play what they had .

The SFA and SPFL got together on the Lowland loans, but we weren't allowed to bring league ones back.

So to 'help out' St Mirren, they granted them permission to bring back some kids to make up the numbers, but only those at the lowest level?. Reeking.
This is the biggest take away from what the manager is saying. This is absolutely scandalous.

They made them play the game having requested it postponed for very good reason, and some people bent over backwards, indeed broke the rules, to make it go ahead.

Is it not worth asking who were the people doing that?

All I took from this is that Celtic struggled to beat a squad padded with lowland league players recalled on emergency loan?

Yeah. No wonder they wanted the winter break pulled forward, they're fishing in a barrel right now.

The SPFL went out of their way to ensure this game took place as they believed it was an easy 3 points for Celtc. The same SPFL went out of their way to have the Piggery game against us postponed.

Certain people did anyway, what we need is a whistleblower.

The time to call it out is now when they are weak and the plan is in tatters.

All joking aside thats just blatant cheating. Lets be honest. Its not St Mirrens fault that they were covid ravaged. They should have been allowed to have tonight and boxing day postponed. Thats a legitimate reason. Not some made up shite about fans.
Basically he is openly saying that the SFA / SPFL changed the rules so that his team had to play a weakened team. Again, actually incredible.

Settle down you.

We won't get fooled again.

So why did they vote the way they did or is it a case as many have previously posted they have been assured Sundays game will not go ahead

Await the papes appeal over St Mirren fielding an illegible player.....
Don't be surprised if that happens.that mhob will stoop to any level to get what they want. An appeal could be on and no doubt a successful appeal with lies from sfa spfl to help.
