Is Glasgow A Deterrent for Manager?

Not so much Glasgow but Scotland could be. When you see police, at the behest of government ministers, investigating footballers for singing Sweet Caroline you couldn't blame anyone for wanting to avoid this bitter little shit hole.
I honestly doubt he’s given that a 2nd thought since it had past. Liverpool isn’t a city that’s known for loving it’s own government, due to previous incidents.

It means a lot to us, but to most outsiders like Gerrard, once it’s done they don’t care

Jose Mourinho lived in a hotel for the whole 2 and a half years he spent as Manchester United manager and his wife never moved up from London.

Scotland, snp independence, spfl sfa hatred towards our club and the very fact the place is a shithole sort of puts people off moving here unless they come from a worse shithole and want free shit housing and exception from all criminality as long as its not aimed at snp and Ireland. Also free medical treatment, medicine, regular payments into your account for doing hee haw and free transport is a plus for no users with nothing to offer except crime, begging and hatred of all things British. But apart from that I can't think what would put people off coming here.
Tell us how you really feel!
Been away for 50 years and was under the impression dear old Glasgow had improved somewhat!

I would say so - the media are mostly bitter nonces, the taxes are higher, referees a joke, no VAR, the other teams are riddled with monobrowed thugs looking to cause harm and the local government is run by a bunch of inept grifters who want you to show a vax pass to sit outside and wear a mask to a pub toilet.

Someone elsewhere pointed out that Lamps lived 4hrs from Norwich and an hours flight from Glasgow. Apologies for not being able to credit the poster, but its a great point. You could conceivably live in London and commute if you really wanted too. Though id imagine most folk would move here. Glasgow has a lot going for it imo.
Daily commute from London? Aye right ye are!

I was at Rangers charity foundation Q&A with Gerrard couple of seasons back he said he was home 3/4 nights a week depending on fixtures

Not much difference in Birmingham to Glasgow or Glasgow to Liverpool tbh, unless you get the train. Living in Glasgow wasn’t the issue, the spl is the issue. It isn’t the epl

Glasgow to Liverpool is 4 hours each way. Liverpool to where Aston Villas training pitch is about 2 hours each way. Even if he does 6 hours at the training centre and commutes most days then its only a 10 hour day. He will be home most nights. No doubt pay someone to drive him some days as he can get work done on the journey.

He mentioned multiple times in public about making family sacrifices.

Happens more than you think. Theres two flights that leave Glasgow at 0630. One for LCY the other for LHR. Usually full of commuters.
Yeah but they don’t commute daily, no one gets the flight home at 630 then flies down again the next morning

Winston Bogarde signed for Chelsea but didn’t fancy London. One of the most lucrative contracts ever at the time.

Stayed in Amsterdam, flew in three times a week for training so he didn’t breach his contract.

Only if someone wants it to be TBH.

Gerrard not having his family here just always made it feel an element of short term and a sign of where he projected his life to be going.

Beale for instance, appeared to love Glasgow, the location a club is based can be whoever each person wants it to be

Believe it was a factor re Gerrards departure since AV would be within commuting distance to his family.
Wonder if it would bother Lampard to be away from London?
Probably not an issue for GVB as he has been in China!
Let's face it, the main issue is sectarianism and also the Glasgow goldfish bowl. Some people's families may struggle with this.

If Gerrard had been fully committed to Rangers he would’ve moved his family up. We were always a stop gap for him. That’s the long & the short of it.

Gerrard's kids are all of school/nursery age and the family didn't want to unsettle them. The fact that she never moved up here whilst he stayed in rented accommodation near Park Circus implied he was never here long term.

Completely different for Gio, his only child is in his late teens and he's lived here before.

Lampard has an 8 month old baby and his wife works for the BBC down south.

It's all in Gio's favour.

BBC broadcast from Manchester, no? Well, Salford.

I’d say “no”.
Possibly though, if you add in lockdown, young kids not moving school and wife four hours away (that bit might suit most of us though), you might have a point.
For sure, he won’t be much closer, in travel time, now than staying here.

End of the day we are a Scottish club that play in Glasgow. If someone takes the job and chooses to be away from their family that's on them. They will be no doubt handsomely paid for the inconvenience.

Excluding London, Glasgow is similar in size and in ways, a better city than many in the midlands and north of England.

The UK is an attraction to players & coaches primarily down the the EPL. Scotland in general will have very little appeal to the majority.

Tough gig those flights mate , done it countless times always loved the flight back on the Friday afternoon though , even better when you’d get the complimentary drinks and clotted cream scone and jam

Honestly if this even bothered SG one little bit, he wasn't quite as tough as i thought.

As for shoitehole it must have been quite pleasant heading Northwards in a bus passing castles, mountains and loch's to play a match.

Anyway, he has made his bed so bollox...

Exactly - not in doubt. This and the amateurish corrupt way it is run.

Scotland and Glasgow are very good places to live, especially with the amount if cash these guys have. The problem is playing what they regard are English League One standard teams 4 times (or more) every season. Add to the fact if by chance you slip up and draw with one of them, you are abused on all media platfoms until the next victory. It's relentless. That could get tedious for most managers that have an alternative, especially if it is in the EPL.

The actual flight might be an hour, but all the shit you need to go through, security, boarding time etc, it ends up about 2½/3 hours, which is a fair bit of time if you are doing it regularly i'd imagine.
That was my thinking as well. Basically up to 3 hours there and back each time.

Can't see anybody going through that every day.

The league being mince, and having to play said mince for god knows how many times a season is probably what puts folks off
