Most capped Scottish footballer per Council Region

Have any of the islanders ever played at top flight level for Shetland/Orkney or the Western Isles?
Ross County have a player from Lewis. Scored against us up there when McGregor fucked it in the last minute a couple of seasons ago.

Think that’s about as high a level as anyone from there has played.

We have or had a player in the youth team from Lewis or Harris too. Not sure how he’s getting on as haven’t heard about him for a while.

Shows you how many more international games get played these days. Young was Scotland captain for 11 years and had 54 caps. Rice for England tonight makes his 50th cap in just five years.
A genuinely cracking observation

Wonder what the reasons behind this are

50 caps already - impressive.

It's always an anomaly seeing players of yesteryear with a handful of caps compared with relative diddies of more recent times with loads.

The Wee Red Book used to be good for anorak studies.

Young was the first Scot to get 50 caps for Scotland, has captained Scotland more times than any other player although Robertson is about to pass him on that record in the next couple of games. They mentioned it on radio commentary the other night.

Interestingly we refused to release our players for the 58 World Cup in Sweden instead taking them on a tour of North America.

Superscore board would have been interesting listening then. :))

"We have a caller from Greenock..."

The wee red book, bought this every year as a young lad. Amazing facts and figures in it. Doubt it's still going though.

A multitude of reasons mate. More countries, more qualifiers. Friendlies, new 'tournaments' like Nations League.

And that's before all the politics.
80,000 people at Wembley paying £50 a head = £4m might have something to do with it as well. Same the world over - screw as much out of the paying public as you can. How else would you line the ever deepening pockets of rich footballers?
