Is there a cut-off date that you have to signup to myGers before in order to accrue the past points?

In other words if you join 2days before the season starts, do you still get categorised into gold/silver/bronze?

I assume it's previous seasons from day you join. Then when they move to 3 years rolling it doesn't matter again as the ones who signed up before you their earliest two years drop off. So basically join whenever it won't affect you unless you are currently purchasing stuff that will build up points .Think I've got that right
