Should we sign Shankland from Ayr?

We of course need a higher standard of player to go straight into the first team, to regain the title, but folk need to realise that building/running the club also requires us to take a chance on promising young players, who can hopefully develop and eventually be shifted on at a profit.
We, as fans, love to wax lyrical about the rise to fame of guys like Andy Robertson and Jamie Vardy. Shankland probably won’t go on to that level (the majority don’t) but then again he might, the only reason these boys have got to the top is because someone took a chance on them. The fact is, none of us have a crystal ball and until he actually does so, no one knows if he’ll be able to make the step up.
Shankland will almost definitely be on the radar of teams in our league so why not sign him now and loan him out to one of them? One things for certain if he sets the place alight and is banging in the goals, and we THEN want to sign him, it’ll be at a much much higher price.
Signing a lad from Ayr as about as low risk as it comes imo. Yes from me.
