I would be bringing someone in for the defence. Balogun was missing a few times last season with injury Katic hasn't played for over a year so I would loan him out so he can go and play a full season as he won't get that with us. Simpson was ok in the games he played in but I'm not sure if we got a long term injury he would be the man to come in I think in all honesty I would loan him out as well to go and play games given he's played little football to date. I can see Edmundson being moved on in this window and use his wages to bring someone else in.
We ain’t signing another defender unless someone leaves.

Middleton might surprise us next season. He's done well at St Johnstone.
Would be a shock if he did but then again we put players out on loan rather than punt them because we think they've got potential. So you never know. I'd love us to have put a player out on loan and he comes back and shines. As unlikely as it seems to be these days. I though Jamie. Murphy would maybe have did that. Well... More hope than thought

The FF twitter feed certainly hinting that Nisbet has a clause in his deal if Rangers come calling.
We did scout him at Dunfermline and I've seen Gerrard make a point of talking to him after games.
We could really bring his game on if we signed him. Defoe would be a massive help.

Okay, I’m braindead, tell me where they play as partners.
Not really a great tone by the other lad.
But they need to balance their forward runs between them and the defensive midfielder to keep the defence tight and attack dynamic.

It's not a traditional partnership, but certainly requires them to work together a level above any other random positions.

I agree, and don’t think Lundstram would start for us either.
I think he will surprise a few on here . Hasnt had a great 12 months . But either has his whole squad and change of manager etc .

He would be quality up here.

I’m pretty sure Middleton doesn’t count as homegrown because he was mainly at Norwich in the years that count for UEFA. Even Billy Gilmour wouldn’t count as homegrown for us if we were to sign him on loan.

3 years between 15-21. Had a quick swatch there and I think he misses out by 4 weeks.

Ordinarily, I’d get that.
Wouldn’t be the case for Rangers last season.
If anything it was stretch them as wide as possible as far up the park as possible.
Look at how many Tavernier got from Borna’s crosses.

It will be Celtic seeing as he is a Celtic supporter. If it is even true that is.
It won't be true. It's unrealistic. If he's sensible he'll go down south.
While he is a Celtic supporter, he would be mad to put a clause in a contract allowing them to get him on the cheap, while decent clubs down south could be priced out of a move.

Scottish quota in europe
We are one off homegrown nation when Stewart leaves. Arfield, Jack and Wright are all homegrown nation

It's homegrown club we need more in. Right now we only have McGregor and Patterson.

We will probably fill our homegrown nation quota in the next few windows but I doubt it will be Nisbett.

I think he is a good player but we missed the boat not taking him from Dunfermline (when we were looking at him). We aren't paying £4+ million for a 3rd/4th choice ST.

If we sign a homegrown striker then it will probably be Shankland on a bosman in June 2022. He would come in as 4th choice ST. Fills the quota and has decent technique.

Really? That’s interesting and I hate saying it but I think he is a better option than Itten
Itten needs a chance. Barely played a run of starts. When he's come in a few times like St Mirren in the cup team had too many changes and collectively played shit. Or 2 games in February when we were doing just enough in games so not fair to judge when team as a whole wasn't playing good.
Away in Poland was a better performance against decent opposition than I've seen from Nisbet (don't watch Scotland so don't know how he played last night)
He's scored at International level for his country as well. Also need to take into account he moved to a foreign country and new club at worst time ever. Couldn't socialise or get family over to visit.

I'd suggest it's almost certain Katic goes out on loan.

At this stage he's potentially 6th choice CH (Goldson, Helander, Balogun, Simpson and Edmundson)

Hasn't played in over 12 months. He neeeds games and he's not going to get that here.

6 month loan down south to the Championship/League 1, even a Hearts, maybe even St Johnstone type club will do him the world of good.

Noticed via Derek Rae that Ritsu Doan is available for 5m Euros. On loan from PSV to Arminia Bielefeld and they can’t afford the option to keep him. If Hagi were to leave for 10m plus I think he’d be a great replacement at likely less than half the cost
quality player

He’s surely ahead of Edmundson but I agree with the gist. He’s also ahead of Simpson for me but a season long at a good level looks inevitable. Double so if we are indeed interested in Doekhi.

For those debating … what is the point in Katic not going on loan he will be at best 4th choice CB (more likely 5th) and he needs games and minutes

the more burning question for me is where does he go on loan? SPL team? Hearts for example? Championship in England? Abroad somewhere to potentially get European game time (Croatia?) think that will be what SG will be thinking as there is zero point in him kicking his heels behind Goldson / Helander / balagun and likely Jack Simpson IMHO

For me he would be 4th choice out of that lot but he probably needs to play every week to recover fully from his injury so loan seems likely

Might Middleton act as Borna's back up if we let Bassey go on loan?
Think the management's plans to convert him to a LB/LWB but he's done a decent job as a forward for St Johnstone.

Perhaps there might be some interest in him but he is a long way of getting into our squad imo.

I'd sell him down with a significant sell on clause we need to trim the squad.

We do have to trim squad. IMHO we could lose Itten, Simpson, Edmundson, Jones, Middleton, Hastie, Barker....

The Fridge had moved ahead of Katic in the pecking order prior to his injury. Katic has also missed a year of football with a bad injury it will take him months to get back up to speed.

I think it's a certainty.

He's missed a year's worth of football and I don't see him dislodging Helander, Goldson or even Balogun as it stands. He needs to go out and make up for lost time with the games he's missed so can see a season loan somewhere then his future will be determined after that.

He might be behind the 3 you mention but 2 of them are already injury prone it would seem. Therefore his services will be required for the squad. He's ahead of Simpson surely when available.

He can get game time at various levels for us to bring his fitness back. We then control all of his rehabilitation.

I don't recall a scenario where we took a 1st team player after serious injury and sent him out on loan for someone else to manage his return to match fitness. Who did Durrant for example go on loan to before his return to the 1st team?

Katic is a multi million pound International player and Rangers I would imagine will want to manage his game time and his return to full fitness pretty specifically...and carefully.
