Time for Alredo to stop talking about leaving

For a start has Alfredo ever 'talked about wanting to leave'? I'll answer. He hasn't.

The media create a circus around him every window and some of our less intelligent fans use it as stick to beat him with whenever he is playing poorly (so much for being 'loyal' Rangers fans eh?).

Again it's the same with valuations. He plays well for a couple of matches and fans are saying hes worth 20m. He has a bad few games and we will be lucky to get 10m. That's not really how it works.

I'll always defend Alfie overall but even I will say that he is pretty much to blame for dropping points against Hearts. Those misses were indefensible and along with Gerrards terrible substitutions cost us the match.

However, it is clear that he has been neutered by Scottish football and his new role in the team. There seems to be a complete lack of aggression from him these days. His old disciplinary record and subsequent weekly media backlash has seemingly had an effect on the way he plays. Would we rather have the hothead who sometimes got a ban but ragdolled defences?

With regards to his new role. He plays deeper and tries to draw our defenders whereas he used to play a lot closer to the opposition defence which I think cause different problems but resulted in more goals for him. We have to also remember that he does have droughts. The same as every striker. He will score goals. It's just that his teammates are also not stepping up like they did last season.

I was slaughtered a few weeks ago for suggesting we'd be doing well to get £10m for him.

Anyone genuinely think we'd get more??

In fact I might be being very generous with a £10m estimate. I think that will be a struggle.

This season HAS to be the last for him.
You'd barely get 2m for him in his current state. Needs dropped and read the riot act. Put on a strict diet and told he won't play until his bodyfat % and weight are at an acceptable level. Also can complete the bleep test to a certain standard. We need to protect our investment and get him back on track while there is still time to make some money. Fast running out as his contract runs down.

We have fitness coaches & specialists at the club that handle these things. Do you think Gerrard ignores them & plays fat Morelos at the moment?

Morelos looks bigger but so do most of the team, remember Wright saying he'd put on 4kg.
I'm hoping we'll see an improvement in him now his wife and kid are back here, they've been away for months going by her Instagram, that might help?

International breaks are also a problem when he doesn't get picked because the guy's who don't go away with their country seem to get a bit of time off and he's away to London doing his thing, that may stop now his wife is back?........but it would probably be better if he was with Colombia as at least we know he's training and living properly.

He is definitely missing his edge, despite leading the line well, and in a way no other including Roofe can, as we saw until Roofe was put on the bench.

What’s apparent to me is that him not having a proper pre season due to Copa America is definitely a major factor in his lack of fitness / sharpness.

He has literally spoke about it several times in many interviews on radio etc about wanting to play in the EPL and a better league so maybe you should question your own intelligence.

He had an interview with sky sports talking about his discipline and how he would need to improve it or he wouldn't get a move to a top league. Thought I would give an example before the inevitable reply of what interview then, comes back. Sorry to trample on your superior intelligence professor.

Bring home the angry on edge Morelos, the one who single handedly rag dolled defences,I'd accept the odd red card,we've basically neutered him.

He isn't close to being as fit as he was before. The fact that the same can be said for much of the rest of the squad makes it less noticeable.

I'm not saying he's poor. By f uck he's pulled us out of a hole many a time, he just isn't the superstar many think.
Exactly this. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen people say “he’s our best player by a country mile”, “enjoy him while he’s here”,“£20m just to get to the table”. I’ve taken a lot of grief on here over the years for simply not getting that. He has never really stood out as some sort of elite player for me, he just looks like one of the team and sometimes he’s worse than a man down.

Problem is Sakala is horrific and Roofe doesn't ever play as a 9 for a run of games for whatever reason. Itten was hopeless as well so he certainly isn't the answer.

So bizarre how so many people have this “well if he wants to go..” prefix, yet he’s signed more contracts than anybody else in the squad.

all for more £££s. He then after a few months of signing talks about leaving to Columbian press.

Getting tiresome, especially as he holds down a spot in the team when quite obviously is not 100% committed.

Time for him to do the talking on the park then he will get this bigger move he wants.

ps When morelos is committed he is a 20m player. right now that value has dropped some what.

I think one of the problems when discussing players like Morelos is that it's either feast or famine.

When he hit that purple patch a few years ago we had him down as the greatest Rangers player of the last 20 years, capable of going for 40, 50 million, absolutely vital for the future success of the team.

A few months later he was a waster, a down and out, and one of the reasons we'd slumped post-Christmas.

There's absolutely no middle ground, and some of the comments on here are almost a result of having elevated him to status he probably didn't deserve even when he was playing really well.

Would like to see our fans have this same approach with Goldson.

Nobody in the squad is on form, yet Morelos is somehow held accountable more than any others - and then the nonsense about him not being committed starts. The guy has an incredible will to win, I’m not sure he would know how to not be committed.

What a load of bollocks.
Every overseas interview with him, he talks about wanting to play in a more competitive league and there's not many nice things said about Rangers, apart from the fans are hardcore.
Surely his English is good enough to do the odd spoken interview now and connect more with Rangers fan.
It wouldn't hurt.

two weeks ago - nods in the winner to put us clear of then leaders Hibs
this week - the guys done nothing for ages

a home draw feels like a defeat
the reaction is expected

I keep seeing people say they’d prefer the hothead Morelos and want him back and that fans now have the calmed down Morelos and it’s affected him.

All excuses.

There was absolutely no valid reason for a professional to be sent off so many times for petulant nonsense.

That could easily have been taken out his game whilst still maintaining an aggressive part to his game of roughing up defenders without resorting to fly kick outs etc.

Again, those that will defend him regardless seem to be blaming management for taking the aggressive side out of his game. I think it’s mental that some genuinely believe asking a player to cut out the costly petulant nonsense has somehow translated to asking him to be a fairy on the park that doesn’t want to barge into defenders etc.

Mate, genuine question but do you think Morelos just walks up to journalists and starts talking about leaving Rangers?

You do know how interviews work, don't you?

Yes I’m sure we all know how interviews work

Journalist asks player a question. Player can dismiss the question or answer it.

Morelos every other window makes noise about wanting to move to a better league etc. That is his right. But he seems to get a free ride from a lot of fans which I find strange.

If Goldson or Tav made the same noise every other window the same folk on here would burst blood vessels with rage at them

Yes, I agree with this. The aggressiveness in your system doesn't come out because you've stopped being a bit daft.

The time to cash in on Alfie is gone
When lille offered 16m we should have accepted it instead of holding out for a few million more
He has wanted to leave since his first season he went in a huff when he never got the move to China
No one has bid near what the club value him at and the way he is playing no one will.

It will soon be time to offer him a new contract and that will be a big decision for the club he is already one of the top earners at the club

Big decision ahead

I've never been so up & down with a player than I have with Alfie.

Love the guy but he frustrates the life out of me.

His finishing has always been erratic but at least peak Morelos offered much more to the team than just goals.

He'd scrap with CBs, run channels, drive at defenders, close players down.

He's offered none of that for the best part of 2 years now and its not good enough.

Personally it feels like the wee man's time with us has gone too long now.

Can someone point me to Morelos talking about leaving?

He said: “My stay [with] Rangers continues, and I feel happy; I started in the best way, scoring goals and what is to come. It’s important to me.

“An agreement has not been reached with the teams; I am calm, and I am a young player; I hope that soon [I will be given the opportunity to leave].

“Here in Rangers, I have already been champion, I have made history, and we hope that it will happen—the opportunity to come out in the best way.

“Each player wants to improve each day and be in a better league, in a more watched league.

“This league has taught me important things in my career. I started in the best way; the previous [season], I scored many goals. Also, may it be God’s opportunity and may a big step be taken soon.”

he has been quoted many times, here is another from a few month before

"Then the transfer market closed and I spoke with the manager and said that I was going to focus on the team. The situation got back to normal and I started to raise the level of my game.
"There are opportunities now for me because I have won the league in Scotland and we are still in the Europa League.
"If we get through to the next round, we will have the opportunity to play against some very big teams and they will be watching me.”
"One of my big dreams is to play in the English Premier League. It is one of the best leagues in the world and there are a lot of important players and important teams.
"So if the opportunity presents itself in my career, I am going to take it.
"It's a style of football very similar to Scottish football and I would enjoy it."

I don't think there's any doubts he wants to leave TBH, he's a young player from Colombia aiming to make his mark in the best leagues in the World - he would have always looked at the move to us as somewhat of a stepping stone to the EPL or similar.

he needs to focus on Rangers and stop this nonsense every transfer window.

You can't sell a player if the buying club doesn't meet your valuation. It does make you wonder what the board want for him though.

That's my issue. You look at his form this season, and even large spells of last season, and question as to whether or not he really wants to be here anymore particularly given his recent comments to the media.

very much like Edouard, If Alfie wants to play in the premiership, he needs to return to the form he showed previously.

If he wants to go get him to %^*&. Sick of hearing about Morelos as if we should be grateful he’s here.
But the rest of the team need to start chipping in with goals, the way we were last season as we were scoring for fun. We need Alfie on his game, yes but we need the rest of them on it as well. It's as if there's been a collective sigh of relief with the league won and reverting to two seasons ago when we were too reliant on him.

So many drama llamas on here.
His goal return has dropped, been dropped deeper by the coaching staff so take up that issue with them.
He needs to be playing on the last line, frustrating the opposition defenders, running channels. Not dropping in and linking play.
This all derives from the coaching staff having a hard on for the way Liverpool play.
Morelos isnt Firmino, Kent isnt Mane and Roofe isnt Salah.

We had a perfectly effective CF, who terrorised defences at all levels, who now is playing deeper than the 10’s most of the game.

Don’t disagree with u with any of the above mate. All im saying is i am sick of hearing about speculation surrounding morelos and wanting away. The way he’s playing just now he can forgot about a move to anyone in the EPL anyway.

Yes,I know and maybe that is causing him to lose focus and it's down to the Management to get him to refocus. I think we'll come good, there were signs of it on Saturday.

Sakala written off already?

Itten hopeless , based on what?

Sakala looks raw as can be if you'd rather I phrased it that way.. which isn't good enough for a striker at us. Maybe in another year when he learns how to time his runs.

Itten was here for an entire year and never impressed the management or many fans. Looks slow, sluggish and not good enough for Rangers. As I said.. an opinion shared by the management and football department at the club.

Itten came to the club as a regular goal scorer for club and country but never got two starts in a row for us so he did we sign him?
again looks like Sakala may go the same way , he too scored for his country last week.
As for opinions , unless you have a direct line to the management team I’m not sure how you would know their opinions.

Not looking to argue about this but they literally got rid of him mate. If you think they rate him and still decided to send him on loan with a future fee arranged then fair dos but I find that unlikely.

Not arguing either but seems strange we sign a player who is top of his game and proceed not to give him a chance.
would reckon his goals per minutes ratio for us would stand up also.

It's just been a signing that hasn't worked out. Like I said if they thought he had something to offer he wouldn't have been offloaded.

You never know maybe he'll be recalled in January and you can make me eat my words but I just don't see it.
