So many on here ready to throw our support under the bus with no evidence being provided.

Was it reported to the stewards and police?
Also the media happy to run this story, but nothing on the sectarian stuff at the celtic game.

Honestly, the utter state of it.

He is one of our own, so we're not flinging him under the bus are we?

As someone who abhors racism of any kind can you highlight the views you're talking about you sadly read on here??
As someone who abhors racism of any kind I am sure you have seen them too?

Even on this thread there are posters indicating it is not true, and that the victim is actually the racist.

And I am sure you can check the lounge to see it pretty much every day. There is a reason that any thread on here that touches upon racism is closed. Like this one probably will be. Of course we should all report such instances and I do, including one last year of a poster bemoaning the "negro race" in a thread on BLM.

20/25 people singing the Sakala song to him? Ha ha you believe that says more about you than anything racist.
Singing the Sakala song at him is the worst transgression of the article IMO. It's the not-so-subtle inference that because he's black, he looks like Fashion Sakala.

I'm not entirely sure why you think that's not believable when you add together football fans and alcohol.

“Around 25 minutes into the game, I’m doing my usual and talking football with fans around me, having a good time. But then I see an older man waving his arms at me, he looks at me and says ‘I can’t understand a word you are saying, are you even speaking English?’

Is that racist?
We all know that it was said with racist attitude. And as for what happened in the wee rangers, staff there would have/should have sorted it for the guy. Absolutely shocking this shit still happens and especially in small section of our fans, it happened to my mate also who is black while standing in the stands and he has a red hand tattooed on his chest. Took my mate nearly half a season to go back to Ibrox.

We have made a lot about abuse of our players in this forum. If we are really serious about stamping out racism then the club need to make sure the individuals involved are banned from the stadium. We need to make it clear that in this day and age there is no place for this stuff at Ibrox. Anyone, everyone… if you don’t like it go join the Klan/Clan/SNP!

You know the media love to paint a picture of us.

He's been vague with his story and it's hard to believe - racially abused twice In public on one night blatantly in public?

and because it's a racism accusation we are just supposed to take it as a fanbase we should class ourselves as guilty until proven innocent so we don't offend him?

You believe 20/25 people cornered him to sing Sakala song at him? 1st part of the story I can see 2nd is Jackanory imo.
Cornered?

Can you explain why you've just made that up and flung it in? At no point does he allude to being cornered.

Attempting to throw dirt on a racism victims story by fabricating parts to make him seem dishonest is the absolute pits of society behaviour.

Can you give me proof of this every day racism on FF in the lounge??

I would chase these morons everyday of the week out our club but please don't tarnish most with the same racist brush.

The racist scum who committed this abhorrent behaviour should be banned for life, no ifs , buts or maybes.

Has anybody listened to the guy speak? He has a east of Scotland Edinburgh accent maybe it was that. Racism has no place at Ibrox

I'll edit the post. You're right doesn't say cornered. Doesn't take away from the point.

Seems a bit strange.

Think the problem is that for most of us, including me, when someone says racism I'm instantly thinking of overtly racist terms using derogatory, foul language and wondering why other people haven't jumped in. In this case it's more passive racism, disguised as banter, but racism nonetheless, but maybe not as easily identifiable to someone who doesn't face it, especially in a crowded place with a drink in you. Sad that this still happens, but it's a societal and generational issue that requires education.
Very good points.

Shouldn't be too hard to ID this old boy referred to.

It's no defence but older people are from another time and have a very different attitude to stuff like this.

Another racial claim being made against our fans

A freelance sport producer from East Lothian says he was racially abused on two occasions over the space of a few hours after attending a Rangers football game.

Bobby Nwanze, 32, said that he was forced to leave a Rangers Scottish Cup match vs Stirling Albion at half time on Friday January 21, after he faced abuse from a fellow supporter in the stands.

To make matters worse, Bobby was subjected to a further bout of abuse when visiting a Rangers themed bar close to the stadium.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Bobby said that he was left in tears in the car when returning from Glasgow, and that the incident had put him off from returning to Ibrox but that he would do so, as he did not want to empower racists.

On the abuse he received, he said: “Why I like Rangers is that the team is relatable to me. In the past the squad was not overly diverse but when you look at the team now that has completely changed. The captain Tavernier is black as is Bassey, Balogun, Aribo, Morelos, Sakala, Bacuna and Kamara. So for me I identify with them.

“To be honest, I am often apprehensive about going to live games due to the elements of racism that can occur there. But my friend Abie, John and I decided to go through for the Scottish Cup tie as we thought it would be a nice family friendly atmosphere with it being the fourth round of the cup.

“Around 25 minutes into the game, I’m doing my usual and talking football with fans around me, having a good time. But then I see an older man waving his arms at me, he looks at me and says ‘I can’t understand a word you are saying, are you even speaking English?’

“I turned to my friends and asked if he had just said what I thought he had. After that I just felt sick and my mood completely dropped. My friends said to try to ignore him but I could not.

“So we left to go to a Rangers bar, I think it was called the Wee Rangers, and when we walked in it was as if everyone had stopped to stare at me walking to the bar - it was weird. We ordered some drinks and just took ourselves to a quiet corner to watch the rest of the game. That is when a middle aged man approached me.

“This gentleman would not leave me alone. He said ‘You are black, what does Fashion Sakala mean?’ My friend asked what he said and when I repeated it they were absolutely astounded. The man proceeded to keep calling me Fashion Sakala even though I asked him to leave me alone to watch the game.

“My friends then tried their best to get them to leave me alone but then the man turned with their group of 20-30 mates and started singing the Fashion Sakala song at me. Now I do not mind banter but my race is not a joke for other people’s amusement. This was being derogative.

“The guy then sat next to me again and started to touch my arms whilst saying, ‘You’re a big boy eh, you're always big.’ He continued to bother me before I was stern and said to leave me alone. It was then that the man said I shouldn’t be there.
What on earth is wrong with people? Haven’t they learned even the most basics of respect?
I hope the club invite him along to remind all that everyone, anyone is welcome at Ibrox.

I was in Hamilton sheriff Court cell's a good few years ago and their was about 10 of us in the one cell, one was a black guy with a thick glesga accent. You should of heard everyone, in astonishment saying %^*& sake mate you sound as if your from Glasgow. The boy looked scunnered saying, aye, that's because I'm from glesga ffs lol I was sitting in the corner hungover trying to hide with embarrassment. 10 hours straight the poor guy was getting quized. Some people have never been outside their scheme I guess lol

Not a chance it happened without people around not sorting it out by telling them to shut up or go into a busy pub and get abused while others never said a word.

I read something similar a couple of years ago somewhere but can’t remember what in.

I just hope my memory is right and callingBS on it, if wrong WTF were the folk round the guy doing ?
I’m with you here.
I’d just need some more evidence before indulging in a character assassination of the Rangers support.

I’ll be honest find it hard to believe . I’ve ko doubt we’ve an element of bad apples in our support but rather leave in tears , could he not contact a police officer or steward ? They would be kicked out and jailed leaving him to stay and support his team . Also surely people beside him , if front, behind , would have heard this and surely they in turn would have called this abuse out ?
He's been the victim of racist abuse and how he reacted is entirely up to him.

The automatic position of he’s lying is what we all lambasted Celtic fans for doing about Glen Kamara. Trust, listen, educate and or deal with
Utter nonsense, the 2 are not the same. We all seen with our eyes the player cupping his mouth and saying something to Kamara. His reaction told you it was something racist.

So we left to go to a Rangers bar, I think it was called the Wee Rangers, and when we walked in it was as if everyone had stopped to stare at me walking to the bar - it was weird.

That’s a well shady thing to say IMO, doubt many would have actually given a f*ck either way who came in or not.
Especially on match day!

you’ve read racist views on here? Really?

I literally just called a person out over on the Roofe thread, for referring to him as a 'Roadman' because he types in Patois on social media. So yeah, plenty of racist and racial insensitive nonsense gets chucked about on here on a regular basis. The Lounge is even worse for it, narrow minded and reactionary nonsense.

What I don't believe 20/25 people started doing that? You and others posters underlying tone for people that don't follow your world view being racist is boring tiresome and lazy.
You don't believe 25 people started singing a football song?

What if a few were cretins who started it because he is black, and the rest ignorantly joined in, is that unbelievable in your mind?

If it is, I suggest you start attending football matches or going to pubs.

Aye it does. 20 mwi schemey types/older guys who see a black guy drinking in a Rangers pub as some sort of novelty because they live a very sheltered life singing this is very believable.
I've seen similar.

Its passed off as patter quite often in Glasgow, call the black guy a funny name after a famous black person.

People on here lying to themselves if they pretend they haven't seen it. Its always makes the victim pretty uncomfortable, but 'patter' isn't it.

TBF what if people just joined in because it’s the Sakala song and has been about the most sung song on buses and pubs this season and chanted most places regardless

The automatic position of he’s lying is what we all lambasted Celtic fans for doing about Glen Kamara. Trust, listen, educate and or deal with

He doesn’t need to bring another negative storm of publicity down upon us.

We need to work amongst ourselves to eradicate such behaviour.

It’s pornography for the press when such things happen - they have no interest in ending such behaviour, their sole concern is to castigate Rangers and this is an open goal.

As a former media person, this smacks to me of journalist invents story about himself.
That picture of him with the BBC Mic is very telling.
I’m not saying we don’t have absolute idiots in our support but there is no way that he ‘left in tears at half time’.
An absolute set up story if you ask me.
Similar to the one when Alfie’s car was interfered with by the private detective who was evidently hired by a newspaper to do it.
