Playing devil's advocate here, but many said the same last year...
And then we got to the Europa League final.

We started last season extremely slow and pretty much didn't play well in any game until about October really. Whatever the reasons for that were at the start of last season, this squad is absolutely more than capable of qualifying for the CL. There are definitely some areas we can and should improve though.

Some cunts just perpetually have their head in the sand with an "it'll be OK" sign gorilla glued to their fucking farter

They also failed to qualify for the UCL last season.

It’s a different manager, one who presumably will be rather more enthusiastic about the upcoming season than his predecessor.

It’s a manager who took us to the Euro Final and won a cup competition.

We also don’t have the suspensions or the staggered return to training due to internationals. And Lundstram is very much settled.

Of course, it could go horribly wrong. A settled side, though, may be preferred rather than trying to introduce a number of new players.

Your first paragraph is presumptuous because if Gio isn’t backed the same way Gerrard wasn’t backed last summer, you’ve no idea the mood Gio will be in come the qualifiers

Gerrard was clearly buzzing after winning the league but that quickly changed after a dismal summer window if truth be told

I'm in the same camp as you and find it absolutely fucking mental that some folk just rely on what's been done in the past to see us through into the immediate future.

Players going into the last year of contract, players already having left, key players who will still be out due to injury. But apparently we will be fine.

It's wild.

And you’re making assumptions on Gio.

Gerrard was backed previously and, at least, he got Lundstram who he really wanted, a shame he didn’t know what to do with the player.

As Gerrard said, he achieved his target. He couldn’t shake the comedown.

Lundstram fit and firing should hopefully make a huge difference, it's up front we're lacking due to injuries again.

As it stands, we have 1 reliable centre half of good quality.

Souttar and Helander are injury prone and King is still a young lad.

We have one striker in Morelos who’s recovering from a muscle injury. He only has 1 striker for competition in Roofe who is also injury prone

It’s mind boggling that some genuinely think the squad is fine as it is for CL qualifiers
An accurate assessment IMO.

Also too many think we’ll skoosh the league this season as if last season was some sort of unfortunate accident.

We didn’t play well at all in the league for the entire season, including dropping lots of points to utter dross, and 2 abject surrenders to them - whose to say the same players won’t repeat it?

We need several players who are capable of walking straight into the team & staying there - at centre back, in midfield, up front & out wide - we need some fresh faces, hungry & ambitious players, especially if more players leave.

Davis, Arfield & Jack have been great, but their age/robustness will be tested next season. I suspect Aribo, Kamara & Barisic would like to move on, and possibly Bassey, Alfie & Kent as well..

I expect greatness from Lowry if he gets game time, but Sakala & Wright don’t do it for me.

We need to upgrade the team for this season or we will finish second again, I am convinced of it.

Absolute psychos getting hysterical before pre season has even started, how do you cope with anything in real life?
As a self proclaimed moon howler I'm in a good position to answer that question. Most of us go about our daily business in a normal respectable manner and FF provides a platform for us fellow "pantie wetters" to release all our nonsense without it impacting our daily lives.

Pretty concerning the lack of movement so far in either direction.

Someone said earlier Ross Wilson is on holiday as well? Nice timing for it.

I wouldn't say it's concerning but I'm certainly a little wary due to how disappointing our last few windows have been.

I'd say if we don't have targets in by the first week of pre season then it's a disappointment. These European qualifiers creep up on you and you want everyone raring to go by the time they come round.

We effectively have two more weeks to get new signings in otherwise it's a situation where they're playing a bit of catch up with the rest of the squad.

Doesn't need to be in the office to do or speak about deals.

Overall becoming a bit anxious that we are not going to be best prepared for the CL.

Once again qualification for the CL is clearly pivotal for our recruitment activity. Nothing has changed, despite last season's record figures.

Like it or not, people need to accept that's how our club intends to operate.

What's wild is anyone making up their minds about what kind of transfer window we will have so soon into it; I don't think the manager is even back till next week.

Hahaha imagine Ross Wilson taking a holiday during the summer Fukin holidays, his timing is shit and he should be chased, does he not know he isn’t allowed time off and if he were it would be best to do it when the season is in full flow.

Window has been opened for a week and you are concerned hahaha

Season has literally just finished and players are on holiday and we have folk in full meltdown cos we haven’t signed have a dozen players

The problem is if we leave it until mid July to get signings in then they only have two weeks training with their new team before some massive CL qualifiers. It's nowhere near enough time to bed players in properly and have them firing on all cylinders.

Don't think it's anything hysterical to say that we need to do some real business early this window. Could be going up against the likes of Monaco in our first qualifier and we can do without being understrength for a tie such as that.

And possibly wanted away earlier than us realised at the time. Why would the board back, in any big way, a manager who was looking already at his next move.

The time to panic isn’t now regarding transfers. Morelos and Kamara will be back for champions league qualifiers, we didn’t have them last year. Souttar will replace helander, we didn’t have him last year. No idea if hagi is back for it. The likes of lundstram and bassey establishing themselves. Like someone else said we will be in a much better position to attack champions league qualifiers even if we don’t bring anyone in beforehand.

Morelos scored v Malmö

To be fair to the club, this is a hard window for us to budget for. It is perfectly plausible that we could have £90m+ flowing into the club before September between sales and CL money, or we could sell nobody and only make the EL.

While we can probably sign one or two players right now, I think the rest of the movement will be at the end of the window when we know where we stand financially.

Morelos was no where near fitness levels required when playing against them. Plus Gio has found his form that he lost under Gerrard.
But you just said he wasn’t available and he was, not that his fitness levels weren’t to your standards

Sorry mate made a mistake :)) the Morelos we’ll get this season for the qualifiers will be a superior player due to his improved fitness levels. Surely you can agree with that?
