A message from The captain

There will be issues, inevitable but hopefully isolated and low key.

Its, as you say, inevitable. However, the real issue is the way it'll be reported. If Rangers were serious about protecting our reputation they'd have employed someone years ago to gather and present evidence of the press and media bias. The fact that they havent sets us up for another dose of propaganda. And we're going to get it with both barrels.

Messages should be starting with a swipe at the politicians and press over their silence regarding "other" supporters
We all know they are sharpening their claws at the prospect of dropped litter
Nothing wrong in being pro-active but we should be pointing out the blatant hypocrisy beforehand

Exactly.

We all know these messages won’t deter the f@ckwits in our support from making a fool of themselves, but the club are playing the media with the PR element of this so they can’t be blamed for ‘not doing more’
I have been in Europe with Rangers enough to know there is always a small number of arseholes travel with us. I would say we as a support should be more proactive in policing our own.
If you see someone being a dick, have a word!
I remember a group of arseholes stealing a shop till in Munich years ago. They were quickly captured by our own support and dragged back to the shop to return the till and apologise. They might have had a slap too.

I have no problem with the intentions . Think the club will be using a variety of messaging in the build up to the match. With the club captain, and management team involved too.

It could be used in mitigation for any subsequent concerns that arise of safety provocations from poor event planning, policing, stewarding, or widespread hooliganism initiated from Frankfurt.

I remember the stories from Derek Johnstone, about the Barcelona 72 team being escorted to a confined area of the nou camp, for an extended period. Then presented with our trophy in an unceremonious fashion.

This was as a consequence of heavy handed police brutality from the innocent euphoria from our support. Nothing much has changed from what we all read about Spanish police.

We want the world to witness Tav smiling broadly in adulation towards our immense support.UEFA will be punitive on any fan incursions on the field of play. Be assured the Tim’s in power will be using any levy to blacken our reputation, in the vain hope of expulsion, closed door games, or financial penalties .

Again, really? Could just about stomach the Souness one as a ticking the box exercise. Taking the piss with another one (and no doubt we’ll have someone else along to do it tomorrow).
Is there really an issue with that though? The club should do all it can to protect its image. I dont care if every member of the squad releases a dissertation on fan behaviour, if it has even a tiny impact or protects the brand then the more the merrier.

And, as most have said, we are having to be told this repeatedly for a reason. Its not patronising when its based on previous evidence.

Maybe it’s just me, but if you’re of the mind to go abroad and get pissed, have a scrap with a Spanish cop and make the headlines, then you’re unlikely to have a sudden personality transformation after watching a 30 second clip from Souness telling you to watch yourself. All those videos do is condescend to the majority

My earlier post #43 pretty much agrees with what you are saying.

Could have been scripted better but we don’t need another Manchester after the world wide praise we are getting about the Ibrox atmosphere.

We also don’t want roasters singing NPOR or the other crap in probably the most RC country in Europe.

99% of us know that and behave that other 1% don’t have the brains unfortunately.

All messages like this are very much required.

Anyone getting upset, offended or nettled seem to be missing the point and quite simply don't understand the political game that is played in this country any time Rangers fans fart.

Take this as some fatherly advice.

One moment of hot headedness and your life could be over - social media - your video ends up on some tramp site - let's get him named and shamed - let's get on to his employers - I've got his facebook and twitter history. We've seen it on here - don't let it happen to you.

Go and enjoy the party - stick to your own fan zones, remember you are club ambassadors but you are also representing yourself. Look after yourselves and each other.

Our tremendous support and atmosphere at Ibrox is now the envy of the world. Let's show the world we can party in Seville.

WATP - don't forget it.

The club are putting a target on the back of the fans with this stuff. Depressing and another example of how out of touch the frauds on the board (Robertston, Graham etc.) are.

Douglas Park and co have done a great job with the finances but they need to sort this lot out.

Fair enough, appreciate there’s varying opinions on it. Personally I think it’s pretty embarrassing but I get others think differently.

I’m also certain it will have zero impact on anyone’s behaviour. Normal folk will act like normal folk (the majority) and bams will act like bams (the minority). No amount of messages from former players will change that.

Personally, I hate the whole 'Media are out there to get us' spin. Media folk love a scandal and a story. If our fans give them one and they enthusiastically print it then that is on the fans, not the papers.

Give them zero scandal and you get zero reporting. Its that simple.

Better put than the two videos.

The only embarrassing thing is that it has to be said in the first place.

Many who follow Rangers are not followers like you or I -Who could talk about the club and its illustrious History all day long and who take pride in representing all that Rangers FC truly stands for.

Sadly, many attach themselves to our club for a sash bash and a celtic tarnish sesison. I've seen first hand the number of people travelling to Seville that have not been near a game since being in Manchester in 2008. The kind of people who's social media is littered with "Off to Sevile. Haha Celtic Fans". These are the people who need warning as they take no pride ehat so evet in representing Rangers.

This is about Rangers and Rangers only. Go and show the world all that is good about us and self police the minority of idiots if required. The minority have the ability to tarnish evetyone's name and reputation.

Unfortunately the reality is anyone who does go over there and act like a prick won't stop and think, "hold on, I should remember what Souness and Gough said". They,ll just carry on regardless.
Until a more sensible group " have a word" or point him/them out to Spanish police

Completely agree with the second paragraph sadly. I suppose thats what makes it even more important that the club do all they can to shield themselves and the brand from any fallout.

It's not ideal - but we do not need another Manchester.

And imagine the scenario that we win on Wednesday, loads of trouble, and we get banned from Europe for a season!!!

Rather naive view unless you live in a perfect world.

Compare the police, politicians & media reporting of us winning 55 and them winning at the weekend there's a glaring difference.

I got the train from Blackpool in the morning and you could tell there were people there who had never been to a Rangers game before. Just down for a bevvy and all the rest of it.

Can't see it being the same in Seville.
The night before in Manchester we passed a boozer in the city ctr and a group guys were outside it singing “flower of Scotland” meanwhile inside “rule Britannia” was being belted out.turned to my mate and said “guess which ones have never been to a rangers game”

I know how to behave. So do most people I know.

Bams will be bams I'm afraid. They don't care. We have some. Every club has some.

Just hope everyone has a great time.

I'll probably drink a bit less than usual actually not that I need told.

Even more condescending than Souness.

I understand the need and reason for the messages, but they could be a bit more positive in their messaging. 'Let's go and have a great time, remember you're ambassadors for the club so do us proud'. Rather than behave.
Sometimes people need to be told straight.

Club playing this right in my opinion. It’s not that difficult to go and be safe and enjoy yourself

I think the club need to be seen to be proactive on it tbh, have no problem with the messages at all
I think this will be part of it… if there is trouble, the club can show proof that they were proactive, which should limit any sanctions etc that the authorities may throw at us.

This sort of thing annoys me, if folk travelling don’t know how to behave themselves before Gough or Souness mention it then they won’t know after it!!
This is so the Club can say they did everything they possibly could if something does go wrong ...

Our Director of Communications is doing a horrendous job.

I'm not saying messages aren't needed, but the content could be miles better than repeating "please behave" a few times.

What evidence. Are Rangers fans really that bad when travelling. Honestly asking. One time 15 years ago seems to be the only reason.

The attached on ned group is always the worry. Every team in Scotland has it. Not there for the football but the alcohol and drug binge instead. Scotland has a huge societal issue with this. Until that is tackled (no laughing at the back) it will always be an problem.

The media really need to focus on the cause: Education, health and the economy. Rather than football teams. Scotland has a high proportion of reprobates.

Its a factual view mate. I know we dont live in a perfect world but that doesn't mean we shouldnt strive to. We have been all across europe this campaign and behaved perfectly. If everyone takes responsibility for their own actions then there is no reason that cant happen again.

As for the reporting of the weekend, I am not particularly fussed. Our party was able to be sensationalised because of covid but either way, it doesnt really bother me what is or isnt printed about them at the weekend.

And this is the only time since then that we are travelling in such numbers. Other than 1972 when the trophy had to be presented in a shower cubicle. We have previous and it needs to be pointed out and a repeat avoided.

People also need to remember there were very few Zenit fans in Manchester, there will be 50k pissed up krauts in Seville, it has the potential to be absolute carnage, the club has to ass cover as there is a culture of suicide drinking and daft boyism that can lead to all sorts.

You almost cant compare this with any Euro trip we have made in the last 20 years bar Manchester. Theres 10x the people going, and 90% of them are not the usual away going crowd.

I think it is absolutely inevitable their will be the odd incident. You are talking about tens of thousands of fans, in the sun, most drinking all day. It would happen to any club travelling with those numbers. I really hope it's kept low key and any issues are fairly isolated.

Check out the Celtic supporting journalist Anthony Joseph’s apologist tweet from the weekend Blair if you think the SMSM treat us & Celtic the same Blair.

Souness was enough.other teams ans will be passing themselves laughing at this and saying why do u need ex players making videos telling you to behave.
