Slightly before my time but I vaguely remember it.
What was the criteria for playing in this cup? Did it run for a few seasons, or just the one?
A two legged affair seems a long drawn out format.
Was your sat nav not working? We left Drumchapel at 8am and missed the kick off. Got completely lost somewhere in England.
Ran from 1975/76 to 1980/81 English and Scottish sides I think invited teams
before that it known as the Texaco Cup from 1970/71 to 1974/75 early season had teams from Ireland as well as England and Scotland towards the end just England and Scotland
Twice we played in it both times we never had European Football 1974/75 and 1980/81

A sure sign we had a crap season the season before and failed to qualify for Europe.it was very much a conciliation prize and turned out a humiliating one to boot.Slightly before my time but I vaguely remember it.

The lowest of the low under John Greig. Three days later we beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox.
That said it was a decent trip.
Was the Sean O'Grady fight not at Ibrox? My old man was down at it.
A mob of them did an overnighter in Sheffield, the Jim Watt v Sean O'Grady fight at the Kelvin Hall on the Friday night and then the pumping of the mentally challengeds on the Saturday.
I think it's fair to say his week improved as it went on.
Home leg was bad enough..
Some great fan footage on this clip but also a reminder of one of the worse results in the clubs history.
Rangers actually responded to this shocker days later by beating Celtic by the same scoreline at Ibrox.
Was the Sean O'Grady fight not at Ibrox?
Perhaps it was the Charlie Nash fight that was on at the Kelvin Hall that week?
Kelvin Hall. Ever the patriots, Celtic had paraded O’Grady at the piggery on the Saturday. Was the Sean O'Grady fight not at Ibrox?

No mate, O'Grady fight was at the Kelvin Hall.
I've seen the footage.
Howard Davis fight maybe at Ibrox?
Was there as well . Great trip apart from the game. Had forgotten about us singing mean machine . Well remembered.I remember this well it hammered down and we were absolutely dreadful. I was utterly depressed after the game and it was a long trip home.
Posted this on another thread about this game but the one memory that sticks with me about the Chesterfield game was the bears singing mean machine throughout the game as that film had been shown the night before. This was when the only TV was council TV.
As the OP says though big beastie bagged a double as we beat the mhanks on the Saturday which helped ease the pain.
Through the good and bad times though one a bear always a bear that is just the way it is.
The less said about Chesterfield the better. Was at Ibrox on the Saturday which I think its fair to say was a surprisingly easy win. Another win which was easier than expected was the Sep 85 OF match at Ibrox which again was a 3 0 win. Was just to the right of the directors box that day and back to Lochinch after for a fair few bevvies. The lowest of the low under John Greig. Three days later we beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox.
That said it was a decent trip.
Was it O Grady who accused Watt of cheating ?Davis fight was MU.
Correct MU, was at both fights, my pal worked in Jim's Watts garage in Maryhill and got some tickets off himNo mate, O'Grady fight was at the Kelvin Hall.
I've seen the footage.

Not there but remember it well.
A Party 4 or 7? https://party-seven.com/ and it was rottenI was there don't remember much apart from drinking out of massive cans of beer.
Watney's I think.
I was at the Coventry v St Mirren Game. 1-1 both teams had won their respective FA Cup. Return game never got played but Coventry City had a replica cup thing in their Trophy Cabinet. If I recall correctly Ian Ferguson played for St Mirren in that game. It’s no surprise that it was scrapped with the long, drawn out format they had.
I see St Mirren were the only Scottish team to lift the trophy. I have no memory of them and Coventry playing a rehashed version in 87/88 season. Apparently they only played one leg of the final and it was then scrapped.
