Copa Libertadores 2018

For it not to go ahead again.... Nah, this loses face big time.

Had it gone ahead today, after yesterday, I would have agreed with you but now it’s becoming a farce and not one that neutrals will worry themselves over.

Think the inital groundswell of sympathy and understanding on the neutrals part of Boca’s persistence not to play yesterday - remember the doctors reports on the players said there was nothing stopping them - will be completely eroded now.

There’s no doubt they see this as a golden chance to get payback / karma for their own ejection from the Libertadores a few seasons back due to fans attacking River players. Like that other self-proclaimed ‘club of the oppressed’ we sadly know all too well they’ll try every trick in the book to get ahead of their rivals

The Boca fan account suggesting the match could be played in Abu Dhabi and the winner will stay to compete in the World Club Cup

More nonsense. Stop trying to force in a Glasgow comparison where none exists. I don't understand the mentality.

The River players and coaching staff were against playing today as well.

I'm not sure. I know if Rangers were playing at the Piggery and our players were attacked with pepper spray and one had a shard of glass in the eye we'd all be demanding the game be postponed and the harshest sanctions possible brought against them. I'm not sure why we always have to attach an Old Firm angle to all these other rivalries. They all have their own political and cultural differences.

Ridiculous.

The first leg was at la Bombanera with 60,000 Boca fans against River Plate.

It would be a complete lack of fairness for the second leg to be held anywhere except Monumental.

I agree. But given how much of a shambles it has been so far you wouldn't bet against it.

Decision making over this weekend has been shambolic to say the least.

The football world was tuning in on this too so I'd have thought those in charge would have bent over backwards to get this game played today to avoid the inevitable sh!tstorm thats surely now headed their way.

The first leg result is irrelevant, and River had the opportunity to go and make it count last night, but their support fucked that up.

If it ends up being at a neutral venue, River fans only have themselves to blame.

We're not too far off that situation as things stand when we play at that shithole!

Maybe I'm not quite getting the whole picture what's happened in Buenos Aries, but I see this as shameless opportunism from Boca to get both revenge as well as either being awarded the cup by default or getting to play the return leg in an empty stadium or neutral venue.

And for me there's parallels with the filth and their instances of preserving sporting integrity (O'Donnells death, the 2010 refs strike, 2012 and all that ... sure there's shedloads more). I'm not trying to place the rivalry in a Glasgow context - just see similarities in the scraping the barrel opportunism ive interpreted Boca's actions as here with how the mentally challengeds have conducted themselves in the past

Should void the first leg then play a one off game at a neutral venue. Outside Argentina.

Think it’s obvious that Boca are looking for a void match.

If the postponement rests on the condition of their players(and River accepting the principle of it) then where does it end?

The forwards eye is still “damaged” on the morning of December 8th. What happens then?

The more you think of it, given it’s written into the rules, I think Boca have a chance of getting this tie forfeited in their favour.

It really doesn't matter if they void the first game or not as it was a draw and I don't thing the "away goals" rule applies in this competition however I totally agree that the game should now be at a neutral venue if not outside Argentina at least outside Buenos Aires.
But playing it on the other side of the world is just insanity ffs!
CONMEBOL make our very own SFA appear almost competent!

You're right. You're not getting the whole picture.

There are no parallels and it's hardly opportunism when your captain is out of the game due to an injury sustained in the attack. River players/management were also in agreement. But keep on with the FF obsession of inserting them into just about every thread...

Just noticed on my PP account that they've paid out (in free bets) on the game.
Just as well really as I'd gone for Boca and if the game goes ahead any time shortly I could only see one winner.

The understatement of the year award has to go to BA City Government Chief, Horacio Larreta Rodríguez. He stated, "This could have been done better." :D

Club World Cup starts there on Dec 12th and winner will be taking part.
That kind of makes a bit of a semblance of sense then.
I kind of feel sorry for the many thousands of real fans that'll miss out on probably the game of their lives but I suppose this proposition has some merits.

Not been following this today but very disappointed to hear this. I think it’s a farce if it’s played anywhere other than RP’s ground.

Last night the doctors said the players were fit to play despite the attack. Today, the Boca Captain is apparently not fit to play. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of another postponement, who is telling lies on player fitness? Unless, I have missed something either the doctors or Boca must be.

Was out last night, was wanting to watch this as well. Only just realising now tit got postponed. Then see there was about 15 pages of chat since yesterday!!

Bus got attacked, players suffered from pepper spray coming into bus, from police or river fans?

got postponed because of this and has been put off tonight as well for the same reasons??

It was the CONMEBOL doctor at the stadium who said Perez was fine.

The eye specialist at the hospital - incidentally, a River fan - said he recommended Perez should not play. The specialist spoke on television about his diagnosis and the reasons for his recommendation.

The CONMEBOL doctor has some questions to answer then I think.

Playing the return leg in UAE in order to have a seamless continuation into the FIFA World Club Cup seems eminently sensible. It gives Boca the satisfaction that their outrage at yesterday's events is being listened to, it gives an element of "punishment" to River (whether it's right they should be held to account) and gets the problem out of Argentina's hands. And with the UAE being a very harsh exponent of judicial discipline, it's practically guaranteed to be the most law abiding Superclassico of all time. As they say in a popular satirical magazine "trebles all round!".

Boca acting all a bit timmy in this aren't they?

They are wanting a default victory. Surely most people on here would be of the mindset if you played for Boca of let us get out and there put these lady's front bottom s in their place we'll show them.

Add in that corrupt CONMEBOL will no doubt earn big $$$ for it also
