Filth furlough their staff

Fans and club happy to now be part of Britain taking the Government payout. When all of this is over they’ll still be spouting the anti British pro IRA shiite

Quite ironic as well that their muppet fan base are always spouting claptrap about them being formed as a charity to help out the poor working class Irish people. Now they've thrown these same people under the bus so fat cats like Lawwell can hoover up over £6,000,000 a year in wages and bonus money.

Amazing how quickly they ditch their "imaginary morals" when it suits them.

You realise every club in the country including us will be doing this
I very much hope that we will not lower ourselves to this until every avenue has been exhausted...
The British government are already condemning Newcastle and Spurs for using this avenue as their first course of action..
Let's hope you are wrong

We will, inevitably, do something similar.

However, I'd like to see us delay any announcement until we are in a position to announce that in addition to furloughing some staff we can also announce that the players have volunteered to take pay cuts or deferrals.

Might be a forlorn hope though.

The thing is, if the authorities would just get on and announce this season terminated it would give some much-needed clarity on the way ahead. Difficult enough to put season tickets on sale when folk are on the breadline without leaving a situation hanging whereby we don't know when the season will start or how many games we will be expected to play next season.
As long as we continue to pay the other 20% of wages.

I actually think this furlough payment should be a loan with interest added to any football club turning over 'say' £1 million pa.

It is not right that they will honour contracts worth hundreds of thousands, then call poverty on the lowest paid wages.

Seems totally unfair, they have cash reserves and that should be used before a bail out from the government.
I’m getting zero from the government being self employed and having savings, as far as I know “it’s once you’ve used all your savings come back to us”?

The fact that massive clubs with multi million pound turnovers can decide to pay players their huge salaries and at the same time furlough their non playing staff is clearly an abuse of the scheme. Also what’s to stop any club claiming the full £2500 on every player they have on the books whilst there is no football? There really should be a means tested element to the scheme based on the turnover and profits of the companies who decide to use it.

I’m sure we will do the same quite soon.
I would be disgusted if we did the same. Morally reprehensible to use tax payers money to prop up clubs without the players wages being cut. The players wages should be cut in the first instance.

Anyway, so much for Celtic's so called left wing/socialist values there. Shocking.

If cash rich EPL teams are doing likewise its difficult to critisise anyone else. IMHO they should all hang their heads in shame if the top players continue to take full pay. Unfortunately to enable the furlough scheme to be implemented ASAP there will be undeserving cases.

If its non playing staff will that include all the flop signings they have?

It's embarrassing that they are doing this after blowing £4m on disco lights and screaming about champions league money and cash in the bank at every turn.

Ha, ha - "left wing/socialist values". They are far from that and their hypocrisy is continually exposed.

CELTIC have confirmed plans to put a number of non-playing staff members on furlough.
But Hoops chiefs have vowed to ensure all workers affected receive 100 per cent of their wages.
Celtic today started the process of using the UK government's job retention scheme across the club.
SunSport understands a number of youth academy coaches will be among those on furlough for the next few months.
With no return to football on the horizon anytime soon, other employees in various departments will also be placed on the scheme.
Those impacted will be unable to do any work for the club - with the situation likely to be reviewed in June.
The UK government covers 80 per cent of wages up to £2500 per month - and Celtic will pay the rest for anyone earning more.
Parkhead officials have also promised staff that all other conditions and benefits will be honoured during this period.
A Celtic spokesperson said: “Like many organisations, due to the unprecedented challenges currently being faced, Celtic will be using the government job retention scheme available, in relation to a number of colleagues.
"At this time, Celtic will ensure that each colleague on this scheme will receive 100 per cent salary, with all other conditions and benefits remaining unchanged.
"Other colleagues will continue to work as normal to cover the club’s ongoing operational requirements.
"Celtic would like to sincerely thank each and every member of staff for all their continued efforts and their tremendous support during such a difficult time for everyone."

I thought this scheme was to be for companies that were in distress and without the help would possibly go under? Or am I wrong?

A Celtic spokesperson said: “Like many organisations, due to the unprecedented challenges currently being faced, Celtic will be using the government job retention scheme available, in relation to a number of colleagues. But but weer oirsh
Shouldn't get help if you have £60m in the bank.... They have haven't they Hugh Keevin's said so

Doesn’t seem like it would save much money compared to the playing staff. Just going after the free money from the government then

Their hatred of the UK never stretches to stop them accepting UK benefits.

Will the groin brigade have their crayons out?

Will they make a political protest against the suits at the club?

It's embarrassing that they are doing this after blowing £4m on disco lights and screaming about champions league money and cash in the bank at every turn.

They claimed to have £33,000,000 in the bank just a few weeks back it’s appalling that tax payer money is now being used to prop them up in such a way.

I suspect players and their agents might be looking at the statements they made in February and thinking to themselves why do we need to take any wage cuts at all with these cash reserves?

Their own bragging might come back and bite them now.

I hope the government ask where all the cash they supposedly have in the bank has went to

My thoughts exactly.
All we hear is about how financially robust they are.

I’ve just read the scheme and right enough, it’s open to everyone. Interesting to see though that it’s supposed to be for only staff that are on a leave of absence.

My son got made redundant from his 25hr a week job because of the caronavirus.....He is a fulltime Law Student in his final year , because he has no dependents and I've got a few quid in the bank he gets no unemployment benefits or jobseekers allowance what so ever , because he has no bills as such , he has no student loans or debt ...the government say that it's up to me and his mum to support him because of our income and savings....
Yet multimillionaire football clubs can get assistance while holding Gazillions in the bank ....
Go figure .....

I think the vast majority of Rangers fans would be sickened tbh if we announced this sort of thing without any news on player wage cuts.
That's the difference between us and charity fc.
We'd want to see players wages take a hit and ensure those at the lower end of the pay scale are alright.

Their win at all costs mentality means they'll quite happily see people out of work before they upset their players.

With Celtics major shareholder Dermot Desmond and his friend minority shareholder Denis O Brien having a personal wealth of circa 6 billion Euros combined, is this justified ?
