Gareth Bale

To be honest those CL goals have sort of masked over the large number of disappearing acts he’s done at times. I know Madrid fans are bastards but there was a reason they targeted him for a while, at times he looked terrified to try and get on the ball.

In saying that, for that last CL goal alone you’d think he’d get a little bit more respect.

I mean what can he do? Madrid have given him a contract, it seems football is the only career where you’re expected to leave as soon as the manager doesn’t want you there.

Bale is damaged goods as he’s now injury prone who’s going to take him? Certainly no one that will pay him what he’s getting now.

The type of signing Man Utd would make nowadays.

He'll have some handicap by the time his contracts up! Tbf 17m a year to do %^*& all sounds amazing I'd be all over it
I know what you are saying, but how many fckn 17 millions does an intelligent professionally ambitious person need?

Surely he should just do a deal with the club, cop a large sum and go elsewhere to continue his football career and go onto achieve much more professional satisfaction?
The lad is a great and can be so much more at the right club!

Or is it just money.

Because if it is just that, then why are we mug punters chasing rainbows every season and weighing out into a machine that stands for nothing more than filthy lucre?

Madrid certainly know how to use their pet media as some the reactions in this thread show.

Bale started off incredible well but over time got caught up in the fame and stardom of playing for Real. His attitude has been rotten for a while he's struggled with injuries and looks no where near the player he was and looks a shadow of his former self. Compare it to his Spurs heyday and the inital first few years in Spain he honestly looks like he's chucked it and he barely socialises with team mates or has bothered to learn the language.

Give it a few more years and he will %^*& off to MLS for a half arsed big pay cheque before retiring. Bit of a shame considering the explosive talent he was 5/6 years ago and the heights he may have reached.

All that hardwork and the talent looks to have gone to waste imho.

Aye what a waste of a career, playing for Madrid all those years and never doing anything of note...

Where did I mention he did nothing of note ? I stated he did very well in his initial couple of seasons but over time went into a bubble and struggled with injuries and form and hasn't particular impressed the managers of late. He is still a quality player but seems content sitting tight collecting his monster wage and would prefer other things in life it's a different mentality from the Bale from a few years back.

Without Bale Wales would have never made the Euros in France.

Cue Man Utd signing him then and paying stupid Money ala Sanchez :D

They give him a huge contract then refuse to play him - what the hell is that all about?

Real are a f.ycking weird club. As soon as they fall behind they seem to self destruct. They sold Ronaldo and yet no one seems to know why. They sack Zidane, then bring Zidane back. They have Bale on silly money, yet won’t play him.

Living well is the best revenge.
If I was Bale, I’d get a move to a CL club where he knows he’s going to start every game and tear up the CL next season. Show Real what they’re missing.

That's different from his club exploits he will give his all for Wales but it's common knowledge he is the "main player" for the national team but different in terms for Real.

That’s the problem with these outrageous fees and wages. If it goes t!ts up you are left with a player on a huge salary offering zero to the team, Also it’s not like there is many teams who can afford to buy him , so very limited to who you can sell him too. Players like alexis Sanchez at old Trafford in the same boat.

I think we can congratulate Mr. Bosman for the contents of this thread.
In the old days Bale would have been buried in the reserves and getting £5 a week for life.

Sadly not been linked in a text from my mate. Didn't play in Madrid's final game and headed straight down the tunnel at FT.

Zidane said ‘Even if I had a fourth substitute I would not have brought him on' re Bale to which Bale reportedly responded in the media "I've got three years contract left. If they want me to go they'll have to pay me €17m a year. Otherwise I'll stay. Doesn't matter if I don't play, I'll just play golf".

This is my dream.
£17m a yr to do fu.k all but play golf

I mean, Madrid are the one that gave him the long contract. Everyone makes a big fuss when players force their way out of a club, but when clubs force players out it's seen as fine.

A contract is a contract and I think bale is 100% correct to see it out unless he can get a better offer elsewhere ( won't happen).

Madrid need to cut their losses and loan him out with an agreement to pay a large chunk of his wages. It's the only way they're going to "win" here.

Probably some kind of payoff... 40 mil and then free to sign for maybe a Bayern or Juve. If Man Utd come in the real will want a fee, that they’d probably pay being as desperate as they are

Yeah, that La Liga, 4 CL winners medals and everything else he has won is such a waste of talent...

What more can he achieve? He's already achieved it all, and is at one of the best clubs in the world so anywhere else is a step down really.

Also I've always kinda got the sense that he never really liked football, just happened to be good at it. Dunno if that's just me.

Bale has said he wants to play football, it's Madrid that's refusing to play him. Not really his fault and he owes Madrid no favours by cutting his contract short either.

It feels like people expect players to just forfeit any salary they are due.

Not many clubs in the world can afford Bale's wages, and the ones who can, would they risk that on a player pushing 30 who is injury prone.

Going to be very costly for Madrid.

A new boss started in my work a few weeks back. He says Im hopeless at the job so I told him Im just going to stay at home and watch TV. I reckon there's nothing he can do as Ive got a contract.

He's been treated like dirt by the club and the fans tbh. Apart from last year's final he also scored the goal to put them ahead for their long coveted 10th CL win. Horrible club.

To be fair it sounds like bale is still showing up to training and actually wants to play and do his job

It's his boss basically telling him he won't be doing it.

Don't get me wrong though I'd be pissed if it was rangers but ultimately it's not the players fault, it's the club's for issuing out long contracts. It's a huge problem when players try to force a move mid contract, but when the club's try to force it, it's seemingly fine.

The best solution here is for Madrid to loan him out and agree to pay half the wages with the new club paying the other half. Either way though Madrid will be paying a pretty penny and bale will get the full €51 million

lol he's a player aswel wonder why they don't like him? mental they gave him that contract and he can't get a game now

The old Real president Calderon has said before Zidane left last year he wanted the board to keep Ronaldo and sell Bale. That backfired eh?
