I don't see the need to slag Shankland because he didn't transfer. I assume if Clement had wanted him and Hearts had been willing to take a reasonable transfer fee, then it would have happened.

He's not coming, so either Clement didn't want him or Hearts wanted more than we thought he was worth. There isn't a whole lot beyond that.

The player has limited control when he's in the middle of his contract. Would we be happy if Notts Forest had offered 2m and Butland had wanted to go anyway? Of course not.
